    The Relative Power of Composite Loop Agreement Tasks

    Loop agreement is a family of wait-free tasks that includes set agreement and simplex agreement, and was used to prove the undecidability of wait-free solvability of distributed tasks by read/write memory. Herlihy and Rajsbaum defined the algebraic signature of a loop agreement task, which consists of a group and a distinguished element. They used the algebraic signature to characterize the relative power of loop agreement tasks. In particular, they showed that one task implements another exactly when there is a homomorphism between their respective signatures sending one distinguished element to the other. In this paper, we extend the previous result by defining the composition of multiple loop agreement tasks to create a new one with the same combined power. We generalize the original algebraic characterization of relative power to compositions of tasks. In this way, we can think of loop agreement tasks in terms of their basic building blocks. We also investigate a category-theoretic perspective of loop agreement by defining a category of loops, showing that the algebraic signature is a functor, and proving that our definition of task composition is the "correct" one, in a categorical sense.Comment: 18 page

    LabView Based AC Magnetization Characteristics and Measurement for Soft Magnetic Materials

    This paper presents LabView based method combined with a simple analog circuitry to characterize the ac magnetization profile of soft magnetic materials. First, soft magnetic materials prepared as ring cores are wound with equal number of turns for the primary and secondary windings. The primary winding is excited with sinusoidal supply of varying voltage amplitude. The secondary winding is interfaced with the LabView for data acquisition and calculation. Graphical plotting and viewing of the hysteresis loop exhibited by the soft magnetic materials under test can be achieved using National Instrument NI6009 data acquisition card and LabView software. This research discusses the methods of measurement for flux density, magnetic field intensity and core permeability at different points of the ac magnetization. The measured results are then compared with those given by the manufacturer datasheets. Good agreement has been achieved to validate the proposed LabView based method

    The 30 GHz communications satellite low noise receiver

    A Ka-band low noise front end in proof of concept (POC) model form for ultimate spaceborne communications receiver deployment was developed. The low noise receiver consists of a 27.5 to 30.0 GHz image enhanced mixer integrated with a 3.7 to 6.2 GHz FET low noise IF amplifier and driven by a self contained 23.8 GHz phase locked local oscillator source. The measured level of receiver performance over the 27.3 to 30.0 GHz RF/3.7 to 6.2 GHz IF band includes 5.5 to 6.5 dB (typ) SSB noise figure, 20.5 + or - 1.5 dB conversion gain and +23 dBm minimum third order two tone intermodulation output intercept point

An Advanced Electrochemical Depolarized Concentrator Module (AEDCM) is developed that has the characteristics of low weight, low volume, high CO2, removal, good electrical performance and low process air pressure drop.     A critical review of the network communication services contained in the Tinman User's Manual for Data Management System Test Bed (Tinman DMS User's Manual) is presented. The review is from the perspective of applying modern software engineering principles and using the Ada language effectively to ensure the test bed network communication services provide a robust capability. Overall the material on network communication services reflects a reasonably good grasp of the Ada language. Language features are appropriately used for most services. Design alternatives are offered to provide improved system performance and a basis for better application software development. Section two contains a review and suggests clarifications of the Statement of Policies and Services contained in Appendix B of the Tinman DMS User's Manual. Section three contains a review of the Network Communication Services and section four contains concluding comments

    Ontology-Based QoS Aggregation for Composite Web Services

    Determining the QoS (quality of service) of composite Web services is of high importance for both service providers and service consumers. Heterogeneity of service descriptions, however, often hinders the aggregation of QoS parameters. We propose ontology-based QoS aggregation that integrates the semantics of QoS parameters and their aggregation into the overall aggregation process. The contribution is a QoS aggregation ontology and a QoS aggregation method that uses this ontology. We demonstrate the usefulness of our proposal for designers of composite services and assess its computational efficiency
