NEUTROSOPHIC LOGIC, WAVE MECHANICS, AND OTHER STORIES

There is beginning for anything; we used to hear that phrase. The same wisdom word applies to the authors too. What began in 2005 as a short email on some ideas related to interpretation of the Wave Mechanics results in a number of papers and books up to now. Some of these papers can be found in Progress in Physics or elsewhere. It is often recognized that when a mathematician meets a physics-inclined mind then the result is either a series of endless debates or publication. In this story, authors preferred to publish rather than perish. Therefore, the purpose with this book is to present a selection of published papers in a compilation which enable the readers to find some coherent ideas which appear in those articles. For this reason, the ordering of the papers here is based on categories of ideas

Kata Kunci: pariwisata halal; bibliometrik; scopus; publish or perish; vosviewer   Abstract: This study aims to determine the development map of research related to halal tourism using a bibliometric analysis approach. This study also identifies various indicators that can be used as determinants of the competitiveness of tourist destinations. This study uses a descriptive statistical approach. This study uses a bibliometric method that is used to evaluate bibliographic data, including the number of journals, number of authors, number of articles and article keywords. This study uses article publication data sourced from various journals, conference papers, and book sections from 2010-2022 with research with the theme of halal tourism or "halal tourism". Data collection was carried out using the Publish or Perish (PoP) software with the source of articles indexed by Scopus with the keyword "halal tourism". The analysis of the development trend of publications on halal tourism in this study was carried out on 105 articles using the VOSViewer software. The results showed that articles with the theme of halal tourism in Scopus indexed journals were first published in 2010. Most articles with the theme of halal tourism were published in 2021. The journal that publishes the most articles on the theme of halal tourism is "Journal of Islamic Marketing". The article that was cited the most was "Halal tourism: Concepts, practices, challenges and future". There are 6 clusters for research keywords and 1 author's cluster on the theme of halal tourism. Based on the identification of indicators, keywords related to the competitiveness of tourist destinations include halal tourism, tourists' desire to visit, honesty, halal food, accommodation, knowledge about halal, halal certification, and tourism websites. Keywords: halal tourism; bibliometrik; scopus; publish or perish; vosviewe

A SYSTEMATIC EVALUATION OF PUBLICATIONS FOR PROMOTION OF MIS ACADEMICS

    Get PDF
This article examines the role of publications as evidence for university promotion and postulates reasons why the academic publish or perish rule applies. A systematic approach to evaluation of an academic\u27s publication portfolio is described. The approach uses a four-step process for evaluating each publication: 1. Ranking of journal where article appeared or classification of book 2. Ranking of quality/impact 3. Evaluating effect of coauthors 4. Evaluating effect of multiple publication of same basic material Following the individual item evaluation, there is an overall evaluation of the publication portfolio for mix of articles and for rate of output. A method is suggested for applying this procedure in evaluating one\u27s own portfolio and developing a personal publication strategy for promotion

Everybody’s Publishing but Me! How a Writing Group Can Help Actualize Your Publishing Dreams

On any given day, one can go to the Chronicle of Higher Education and see a new article on the trials and tribulations of publishing and seeking tenure in academia. Anxiety inducing titles such as “Measuring Up” and “The Stress of Academic Publishing” reaffirm the notion that one must publish, or perish. While this type of pressure pushes some to success, for others, it makes it harder to write. However, you don’t have to travel this writing and publishing road alone. Inspired by the book Every Other Thursday: Stories and Strategies from Successful Women Scientists by Ellen Daniell, a small group of women academics and professionals in Logan, Utah found their support team through the creation of a writing group in Spring 2009

    Publish and Flourish

At primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs), teaching is usually the primary responsibility, and many PUI professors do not regularly produce publications, even if they were hired to include research as an important responsibility. Most instructors at these schools are busy enough with just teaching and other academic responsibilities. It can seem intimidating to think of doing research, writing a research proposal, then a publication, and so on. Perhaps the sum of these duties may seem like a daunting set of tasks, and a fear factor, consciously or subconsciously, may slow or even stop the research initiative. But at PUIs, it is not just publish or perish, and how much of that representation exists depends on the undergraduate institution: The best schools may push publication performance, and the weakest may ignore it. Either way, this book provides a new and more positive emphasis

Publishing without Perishing: Sharing Ideas & Challenging the Closed System of Academic Anthropology

Why do we publish anthropology? Do we publish to communicate our ideas, or to move up the ranks of academia? We all know the basic narrative: In order to land a job and move up the socio-economic ladder of academicanthropology, we all need to publish. As the saying goes: publish or perish. So everyone — from graduate students onward — joins in and perpetuates this particular academic habitus. But is the current system working? We may all be publishing (or working toward it), but that does not mean that we have really avoided the “perish” part of the equation. The problem, as Harry Wolcott pointed out almost two decades ago, is that we are stuck in an insular, closed system. Our current publication regime is primarily geared toward internal conversations and our own political economies. We are, in essence, talking to ourselves. We keep our conversations separated from wider audiences through habit, and also via a slew of self-imposed barriers (journal articles closed off through pay walls, writing style, overall use of media). This paper is about rethinking not only why we publish, but also how we publish. The goal is not to dismiss the importance of traditional venues for publication (books, journal articles, edited volumes), but instead to explore how we can start opening up and sharing our anthropological conversations with wider audiences through the creative use of a range of media-based tools and platforms
