AbstractMultiband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MB-OFDM) is one of the key techniques of ultra wideband (UWB) systems. A major drawback of MB-OFDM technique is the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmit signal. In this paper, a novel phase sequence of selected mapping algorithm which makes the side information not needed is designed to lower the PAPR of MB-OFDM UWB signals. It is also shown that comparable PAPR reduction performance with the original SLM algorithm can be achieved with a small increase in signal power. Simulation results show that there must be equilibriums between SLM computational complexity and PAPR performance. The objective of the new algorithm is to lower PAPR close to ordinary SLM technique with reduced computational complexity with little performance degradation and achieves better system resource utilization

New Fast Transform for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing

In this paper, a new fast and low complexity transform is introduced for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless systems. The new transform combines the effects of fast complex-Walsh-Hadamard transform (CHT) and the fast Fourier transform (FFT) into a single unitary transform named in this paper as the complex transition transform (CTT). The development of a new algorithm for fast calculation of the CT transform called FCT is found to have all the desirable properties such as in-place computation, simple indexing scheme and considerably lower arithmetic complexity than existing algorithms. Furthermore, a new OFDM system using the FCT algorithm is introduced and its performance has been evaluated. The proposed CT-OFDM achieves a noticeable reduction in peak-to-average-power-ratio (PAPR) and a significant improvement in the bit-error-rate (BER) performance compared with the conventional OFDM.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, 1 tabl

Peak-to-Average Power Ratio Reduction of DOCSIS 3.1 Downstream Signals

Tone reservation (TR) is an attractive and widely used method for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals, where both transmitter and receiver agree upon a number of subcarriers or tones to be reserved to generate a peak canceling signal that can reduce the peak power of the transmitted signals. The tones are selected to be mutually exclusive with the tones used for data transmission, which allows the receiver to extract the data symbols without distortions. This thesis presents two novel PAPR reduction algorithms for OFDM signals based on the TR principle, which do not distort the transmitted signals. The first proposed algorithm is performed in the time domain, whereas the second algorithm is a new clipping-and-filtering method. Both algorithms consist of two stages. The first stage, which is done off-line, creates a set of canceling signals based on the settings of the OFDM system. In particular, these signals are constructed to cancel signals at different levels of maximum instantaneous power that are above a predefined threshold. The second stage, which is online and iterative, reduces the signal peaks by using the canceling signals constructed in the first stage. The precalculated canceling signals can be updated when different tone sets are selected for data transmission, accommodating many practical applications. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms achieve slightly better PAPR reduction performance than the conventional algorithms. Moreover, such performance is achieved with much lower computational complexity in terms of numbers of multiplications and additions per iteration. Among the two proposed algorithms, the time-domain algorithm gives the best peak reduction performance but the clipping-and-filtering algorithm requires considerably less number of multiplications per iteration and can be efficiently implemented using the fast Fourier transform (FFT)/inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) structure

A Modified Shuffled Frog Leaping Algorithm for PAPR Reduction in OFDM Systems

© 2015 IEEE. Significant reduction of the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is an implementation challenge in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. One way to reduce PAPR is to apply a set of selected partial transmission sequence (PTS) to the transmit signals. However, PTS selection is a highly complex NP-hard problem and the computational complexity is very high when a large number of subcarriers are used in the OFDM system. In this paper, we propose a new heuristic PTS selection method, the modified chaos clonal shuffled frog leaping algorithm (MCCSFLA). MCCSFLA is inspired by natural clonal selection of a frog colony, it is based on the chaos theory. We also analyze MCCSFLA using the Markov chain theory and prove that the algorithm can converge to the global optimum. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better PAPR reduction than using others genetic, quantum evolutionary and selective mapping algorithms. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm converges faster than the genetic and quantum evolutionary algorithms

ABSTRACT: This paper reviews orthogonal frequencydivision multiple (OFDM) which has been adopted as a standard for various high data rate wireless communication systems. However, implementation of the OFDM system entails several difficulties. One of the major drawbacks is the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) which cause large number of sub-carriers, that make restrictions for practical applications. Block Coding, partial transmit sequence and clipping are some PAPR reduction methods that have been proposed to overcome this problem. In this paper, we mainly investigate the PAPR reduction performance using interleaving & PTS, this method is sub-entities of interleaving & phase rotation scheme. A new algorithm using interleaving & PTS technique which shows better PAPR reduction compared to the existing algorithms is proposed. Results are verified using MATLAB software

A New Subblock Segmentation Scheme in Partial Transmit Sequence for Reducing PAPR Value in OFDM Systems

Partial transmit sequence (PTS) is considered an efficient algorithm to alleviate the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The PTS technique is depended on the partitioning the input data sequence into the several subblocks, and then weighting these subblocks with a group of the phase factors. There are three common types of partitioning schemes: interleaving scheme (IL-PTS), adjacent scheme (Ad-PTS), and pseudo-random scheme (PR-PTS). The three conventional partitioning schemes have various performances of the PAPR value and the computational complexity pattern which are considered the main problems of the OFDM system. In this paper, the three ordinary partition schemes are analyzed and discussed depending on the capability of reducing the PAPR value and the computational complexity. Furthermore, new partitioning scheme is introduced in order to improve the PAPR reduction performance. The simulation results indicated that the PR-PTS scheme could achieve the superiority in PAPR mitigation compared with the rest of the schemes at the expense of increasing the computational complexity. Furthermore, the new segmentation scheme improved the PAPR reduction performance better than that the Ad-PTS and IL-PTS schemes

An intelligent genetic algorithm for PAPR reduction in a multi-carrier CDMA wireless system

Abstract— A novel intelligent genetic algorithm (GA), called Minimum Distance guided GA (MDGA) is proposed for peak-average-power ratio (PAPR) reduction based on partial transmit sequence (PTS) scheme in a synchronous Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) system. In contrast to traditional GA, our MDGA starts with a balanced ratio of exploration and exploitation which is maintained throughout the process. It introduces a novel replacement strategy which increases significantly the convergence rate and reduce dramatically computational complexity as compared to the conventional GA. The simulation results demonstrate that, if compared to the PAPR reduction schemes using exhaustive search and traditional GA, our scheme achieves 99.52% and 50+% reduction in computational complexity respectively
