    On the question of the role of project management in the digital transformation of small and medium-sized businesses: essence and innovative potential

    Digital transformation is penetrating all areas of activities. This process is irreversible and poses challenges to businesses. The leading role for the successful digital transformation of small and medium-sized businesses is played by effective project management. The purpose of the article is to study the role of project management in the digital transformation of small and medium- sized businesses, to identify the key issues and the scenario of transformation, to outline the portrait of a project manager. Methods used: analysisб synthesis, graphic methods, the method of establishing cause-and-effect relationships. As a research result, theoretical aspects of project management and trends in understanding its role in the digital transformation of businesses were determined. The key questions for project management are outlined and its scenario is defined. The key skills and qualities of an effective project manager are described. The innovative potential of project management is considered. The scientific novelty of the research consists in clarifying the aspects necessary for effective project management, taking into account the trends in economic and sustainable development. The practical significance of the research results lies in outlining the areas of activity and improving the professional and extra-professional skills of project managers in the process of digital transformation. &nbsp

    Exploring the determinants of digital transformation in its different stages in Dutch SMEs: A digital dynamic capabilities perspective

    Digital transformation (DT) has become a crucial strategic imperative for organizations seeking to thrive in the rapidly evolving business environment. While digital transformation has been extensively studied in large organizations, there remains a need for more available evidence in the context of (Dutch) SMEs and how organizations go through different DT phases. This dissertation aims to address this gap by adopting a digital dynamic capabilities perspective to explore the determinants of digital transformation in Dutch SMEs and investigate how these determinants change over the different digital transformation phases. This thesis has met these aims by integrating an extensive review of the relevant literature and implementing a qualitative study. The latter includes nine interviews with experts from different Dutch SMEs and an expert panel to validate these findings. The primary conclusions produced by this study include five internal determinants, five external determinants, three sub-capabilities, each of the sensing, seizing, transforming, and safeguarding digital dynamic capability clusters, and five desired digital transformation outcomes. ‘Digital safeguarding’ has emerged as a novel capability cluster focusing on skills required from the implementation onwards. In conclusion, this study has contributed to a deeper understanding of the differences in the digital transformation determinants and capabilities between large organizations and SMEs. Moreover, this thesis has identified that boundaries between the different digital transformation phases could be fading due to the continuity of digital transformation. Simultaneously, this research has practical relevance as these findings could support Dutch SMEs in navigating their digital transformations. Alternatively, the study could help Joanknecht, a Dutch financial advisory firm, improve its consultancy services. Looking ahead, future researchers should seek to validate and expand upon the presented findings.

    The peculiarities of the synthesis of the enterprise competitiveness management system are considered. This synthesis should take into account the laws of system formation and have a hierarchical structure with a flexible module of interaction between the blocks of state regulation, the block of adaptation and the microeconomic (corporate) block. The block of state regulation (macroeconomic) is the highest level of organization of the enterprise competitiveness management system, which is confirmed by the modern practice of developed countries. The article analyzes the position of Ukraine in international ratings and finds that the dysfunctional role of the state complicates the management of the enterprise international competitiveness, leads to further deterioration of the economy industrial structure, the loss of competitive positions and the strengthening of raw orientation.Рассмотрены особенности синтеза системы управления конкурентоспособностью предприятия, который должен учитывать законы системообразования и иметь иерархическую структуру с гибким модулем взаимодействия блоков государственного регулирования, блока адаптации и микроэкономического (корпоративного) блока. Блок государственного регулирования (макроэкономический) является самым высоким уровнем организации системы управления конкурентоспособностью предприятия, что подтверждается современной практикой развитых стран. Проанализированы позиции Украины в международных рейтингах и выяснено, что дисфункциональна роль государства усложняет управление международной конкурентоспособностью предприятия, приводит к дальнейшему ухудшению промышленной структуры экономики, потери конкурентных позиций и усиления сырьевой ориентации.Розглянуто особливості синтезу системи управління конкурентоспроможністю підприємства, який повинен враховувати закони системоутворення та мати ієрархічну структуру із гнучким модулем взаємодії блоків державного регулювання, блоку адаптації та мікроекономічного (корпоративного) блоку. Блок державного регулювання (макроекономічний) є найвищим рівнем організації системи управління конкурентоспроможністю підприємства, що підтверджується сучасною практикою розвинених країн. Проаналізовано позиції України в міжнародних рейтингах та з’ясовано, що дисфункціональна роль держави ускладнює управління міжнародною конкурентоспроможністю підприємства, призводить до подальшого погіршення промислової структури економіки, втрати конкурентних позицій та посилення сировинної орієнтації

    The basic principles and methodological foundations for measuring the readiness and ability of the national institutions to provide citizens and businesses with access to public services online are considered. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the study of the implementation of e-government tools in UN member states (UN E-Government Survey), current trends and transformations of the e-government model, the digital divide and digital barriers to further progress in the development of the digital economy and e-democracy are analyzed. The methodological basis of the study applied are techniques and methods of complex comparative analysis and logical generalization and the information base is formed by the results of the UN E-Government Survey and World Bank Governance Surveys.Рассмотрены основные принципы и методологические основы измерения готовности и способности национальных институтов предоставлять гражданам и бизнесу доступ к государственным услугам в режиме онлайн.     Development of small and medium enterprises: the EU and East-partnership countries experience: monograph

    The monograph reveals challenging issues of small and medium enterprises development in the European Union and East-Partnership countries. Special attention is paid to a new paradigm of financing investments and fostering innovations at all levels of legal entities including SMEs, enhancing innovative entrepreneurship in conditions of global social and technological challenges as well as determining priority sectors for small and medium enterprises as drivers of economic growth. The authors of the monograph emphasize on such European approaches to financing SMEs as crowd-funding and SME-bonds, analyze experience of applying fiscal instruments to support investment and innovations. The researchers underline the role of social investment as an innovative strategy for European SMEs that could be applied in Ukraine and East-partnership countries, suggest new conceptual approach to the evaluation of innovative business development. They also analyse trends of Ukrainian IT enterprises development in the context of modern information services in a global market. Additional attention is paid to the analysis of SMEs’ entrepreneurial potential in conditions of global social and technological changes, estimation effects of applying electronic governance technologies to provide administrative services by public authorities of various levels of governance. Finally, the researchers disclose economic mentality of legal entities as an informal side of financial assets and substantiate the necessity of creation entrepreneurial universities as drivers of innovative development of economy.     This work project develops an outlook for the future of the logistics industry in the EU until 2032 and provides strategic recommendations for logistics managers. An analysis of the transactional and contextual environment is conducted based on primary and secondary research to generate future scenarios. The stability of the geopolitical and economic landscape and the density of the technology network are identified as critical uncertainties. Based on that, future scenarios are developed. Strategic short- and long-term options are recommended for different scenarios. Finally, early indicators are developed, helping industry stakeholders to monitor the environment and anticipate which scenario unfolds

    New Trends in Development of Services in the Modern Economy

    The services sector strategic development unites a multitude of economic and managerial aspects and is one of the most important problems of economic management. Many researches devoted to this industry study are available. Most of them are performed in the traditional aspect of the voluminous calendar approach to strategic management, characteristic of the national scientific school. Such an approach seems archaic, forming false strategic benchmarks. The services sector is of special scientific interest in this context due to the fact that the social production structure to the services development model attraction in many countries suggests transition to postindustrial economy type where the services sector is a system-supporting sector of the economy. Actively influencing the economy, the services sector in the developed countries dominates in the GDP formation, primary capital accumulation, labor, households final consumption and, finally, citizens comfort of living. However, a clear understanding of the services sector as a hyper-sector permeating all spheres of human activity has not yet been fully developed, although interest in this issue continues to grow among many authors.     Purpose – to analyze strategic company management in the digital business environment. Design/Method/Approach. General scientific methods are applied: systematization, comparison, generalization, analysis, and synthesis. Findings. The essence of strategic management and its significance to a company has been analyzed. The relationship between strategic company management and digital business environment has been elucidated. Basic trends for doing business in the digital environment have been defined. Theoretical implications. Theoretical significance of the research is in the advancement of opinion on the strategic company management in digital business environment. Practical implications. The practical value of the research is in the possibility of applying the results obtained by both international and domestic companies for strategic management in the digital business environment that emerged as a result of the Fourth industrial revolution. Originality/Value. The main trends of modern business in the digital environment have been identified. The choice of strategies of multinational companies has been identified, as well as the areas of their application in digital business environment. Research limitations/Future research. The prospects for further research are to study the strategic management of international companies and analyze the impact of digital business environment on their development.     Reshaping strategies in times of crises : the case of Gorillas Technologies GmbH

    The Covid 19 pandemic shook the world in 2020. As a result, there were many innovations, including a revolution in the retail sector. Online ordering was the new normal, and new industries were enabled by changing consumer behaviour. One example is the quick commerce industry. In 2022, however, the Ukraine war and record inflation resulted in significant market changes. Thus also a strong influence on the new quick commerce industry. The case study covers Gorillas Technologies GmbH, which brought the quick commerce industry to Europe. It looks closely at Gorillas' response to Covid-19 and how Gorillas is responding to the Ukraine war and inflation. Different strategic frameworks were used for the analysis. Moreover, a particular focus was placed on the competitive environment of Gorillas. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted for this qualitative research project to analyze Gorilla's strategies and strategy changes in detail. The case study is suitable for a variety of people interested in the food industry, e-commerce or quick commerce. The analysis revealed that Covid-19 catalyzed the rapid growth of Gorillas and the industry as consumer behaviour changed. Furthermore, it was recognized that the Ukraine war and inflation caused a complete strategic realignment of Gorillas, who is now striving for profitability instead of growth.A pandemia de Covid 19 abalou o mundo em 2020. Como resultado, houve muitas inovações, incluindo uma revolução no sector retalhista. A encomenda online foi o novo normal, e novas indústrias foram viabilizadas pela mudança do comportamento dos consumidores. Um exemplo é a indústria do comércio rápido. Em 2022, contudo, a guerra da Ucrânia e a inflação recorde resultaram em mudanças significativas no mercado. Assim, também uma forte influência sobre a nova indústria do comércio rápido. O estudo de caso abrange a Gorillas Technologies GmbH, que trouxe a indústria do comércio rápido para a Europa. Analisa atentamente a resposta de Gorillas ao Covid-19 e como Gorillas está a responder à guerra e à inflação na Ucrânia. Foram utilizados diferentes quadros estratégicos para a análise. Além disso, foi dada especial atenção ao ambiente competitivo de Gorillas. Foram realizadas seis entrevistas semi-estruturadas para este projecto de investigação qualitativa para analisar em pormenor as estratégias e mudanças de estratégia de Gorilla. O estudo de caso é adequado para uma variedade de pessoas interessadas na indústria alimentar, comércio electrónico ou comércio rápido. A análise revelou que o Covid-19 catalisou o rápido crescimento de Gorilas e da indústria à medida que o comportamento dos consumidores mudava. Além disso, foi reconhecido que a guerra e a inflação da Ucrânia causaram um realinhamento estratégico completo dos gorilas, que agora se esforçam por obter rentabilidade em vez de crescimento

    The present volume of studies and analyses, the second one in a series dedicated to investigating regional development at the borders of the European Union was conceived starting from the theoretical underpinnings presented above. However, it does not claim to be exhaustive. The chief purpose of its two sections is to improve approaches to regional development through new levels of analysing contemporary realities. At the same time, its aim is to bring to the attention of the academic community, researchers and policy makers the particularities in the development of the EU's eastern border regions. The topics were discussed during the international conference Jean Monnet Regional Development at the Borders of the European Union, organized in Oradea in November 2019, within the project "Development of the border regions in Central and Eastern Europe countries", funded by the Erasmus + program of European Union, the Jean Monnet Program.
