EUROPEAN ATTITUDES AND INSTITUTIONAL TRUST IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AFTER ECONOMIC CRISIS: STRESSING THE IMPACT OF THE EUROPEAN IDENTITY

    Get PDF
This paper analyses the determinants of people’s support for European institutions, mainly focusing on the impact of European identity, after the economic crisis and in a moment in which – after profound uncertainty for its immediate future – there is a new feeling toward European integration. Previous research on support for European institutions, before the economic and financial crisis which had hit Europe since 2008, found that people’s evaluations followed mainly an instrumental logic – support being contingent on a perception of personal or national benefit accruing for EU membership – with an additional role played by European identification. This contribution expands the analysis after the beginning of the economic crisis, so to assess whether the former has affected the structure of such support, and deepens the analysis of the impact of EU identity on European institutional confidence. Using a recent Eurobarometer survey (86.2, 2016) and combining both individual and contextual data, the paper shows that European identity plays a crucial role in explaining European support also after the crisis

The Man at the Self-painted Window

This creative project is an autobiographical novel that tells the story of Hero Widjaja, a Chinese Indonesian man who embarks on his journey to Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China to find his true identity. Having raised in a pretty conservative Chinese Indonesian family background, Hero learns that there is an unfinished business in finding his identity as a Chinese Indonesian man. His parents unconsciously indoctrinate him to identify himself just like Mainland Chinese people. On the other hand, Hero surely does not have Chinese citizenship or even speak Mandarin. One morning, his father offers him a free trip to visit his relatives in Mainland China. Keeping the desire to find his true identity, Hero decides to take the trip and prove it himself whether he is eligible to regard himself as Chinese. I decide to use Erikson's stages of psychosocial development to identify Hero's identity crisis. This theory aims to help me create problems and believable characterization for my characters to represent the identity crisis that Chinese Indonesian people may have in real life. As for the genre, I decide to choose biographical novel as the genre of my creative work. I mix my personal family experiences as a Chinese Indonesian man with fictional elements so that I can still catch my readers' attention from the beginning to the end

In the offered article near implementation of attempt of theoretical justification of aspects of manifestation of crisis of identity of persons of teenage age, results of an empirical research of psychological signs of crisis of identity and its indicators in the period of public uncertainty are presented. In the light of trauma theory, this thesis attempts to analyze Milkman’s identity crisis in Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon. It explores the cause of Milkman’s identity crisis, that is, his own psychological trauma led by the effects of trans-generational transmission of familial and racial trauma. Losing parental love, Milkman is indifferent to others and always feels a sense of isolation and depression. Isolated by both the blacks and the whites, Milkman is trapped in identity crisis. He is internalized to the white identity and feels a sense of rootlessness. Through analyzing Milkman’s identity crisis, this thesis tries to reveal the influences of slavery and racism on African Americans and probes into Toni Morrison’s allusion to the issue of identity crisis facing minorities in America nowadays.

Identity formation of adolescents involved in selected structured activities

    Get PDF
Identity formation is seen as the primary developmental task during adolescence according to Erikson (1968). Adolescents\u27 involvement in structured activities such as extracurricular activity, 4-H, and volunteerism were examined to determine their associations with identity formation. Researcher James Marcia (1966) developed four statuses of identity formation: diffusion, foreclosure, moratorium, and achieved. Categorization in one of the four statuses depends upon the levels of both crisis and commitment. Adolescents who are in the identity-diffused category have had no crisis or made no commitment. Those who foreclose, have made a commitment, but have had no crisis. Moratorium is a state of exploration, where a crisis is present, but no commitment has yet been made. Finally, in the identity-achieved state, the individual has faced a crisis and made a commitment (Marcia, 1966). (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

Missionising Youth Identity Crisis:Towards a missional hermeneutic of care in youth ministry practice

    Get PDF
The intention of this paper is to interpret the ontological conditions of youth identity crisis missionally. This is first done by conceptualising identity crisis as a psychological phenomenon using frameworks of authenticity and attachment to explain the impact of early attachment abuse, abandonment depression, insecure attachment anxiety with God, and self-regulation on the identity formation of the youth. Secondly, the paper introduces a missional hermeneutic that provides an interpretative framework for coping with the crises of identity amongst young people. A missional hermeneutic of care for coping with the crisis of identity formation, therefore, elaborates on the missional basis of biblical interpretation as a powerful framework within which to interpret a skewed, conflicted identity. The author herewith proposes a missional opportunity that can activate the missional consciousness of young people in their time of crisis and identity formation. Furthermore, the author insists that this missional methodology can be a very useful strategy for producing therapeutic change in young people and can help youth ministry workers and pastoral caregivers to reframe the crisis of youth identity from the perspective of 'missio Dei'

A financial network model, where the coded identity of the counterparties of every trade is known, is applied to both stable and crisis periods in a large and liquid overnight repo market in an emerging market economy. We have analyzed the financial crisis by using various network investigation tools such as links, interconnectivity, and reciprocity. In addition, we proposed a centrality measure to monitor and detect the ‘systemically important financial institution’ in the financial system. We have shown that our measure gives strong signals much before the crisis.systemic risk, financial regulation, financial crisis, BASEL III, systemically important financial institution, Turkey, IMF

The first objective is to find out the identity crisis experienced by the main character in Girl in Translation. The second objective is to find out how the main character overcomes the problems she faced. To achieve the objectives of the study, the writer will use mimetic theory as an approach. The method that will be used is qualitative method. Based on the analysis, it can be found that the main character experiences the identity crisis through language, dwelling, food, clothes, lifestyle, and moral. To overcome the identity crisis, the main character uses hybrid identity. The mixed identities make the main character become a Chinese-American. Keywords: main character; identity crisis; the American dream; Chinese immigrants; American culture
