Search-based Motion Planning for Aggressive Flight in SE(3)
Quadrotors with large thrust-to-weight ratios are able to track aggressive
trajectories with sharp turns and high accelerations. In this work, we develop
a search-based trajectory planning approach that exploits the quadrotor
maneuverability to generate sequences of motion primitives in cluttered
environments. We model the quadrotor body as an ellipsoid and compute its
flight attitude along trajectories in order to check for collisions against
obstacles. The ellipsoid model allows the quadrotor to pass through gaps that
are smaller than its diameter with non-zero pitch or roll angles. Without any
prior information about the location of gaps and associated attitude
constraints, our algorithm is able to find a safe and optimal trajectory that
guides the robot to its goal as fast as possible. To accelerate planning, we
first perform a lower dimensional search and use it as a heuristic to guide the
generation of a final dynamically feasible trajectory. We analyze critical
discretization parameters of motion primitive planning and demonstrate the
feasibility of the generated trajectories in various simulations and real-world

CSGNet: Neural Shape Parser for Constructive Solid Geometry
We present a neural architecture that takes as input a 2D or 3D shape and
outputs a program that generates the shape. The instructions in our program are
based on constructive solid geometry principles, i.e., a set of boolean
operations on shape primitives defined recursively. Bottom-up techniques for
this shape parsing task rely on primitive detection and are inherently slow
since the search space over possible primitive combinations is large. In
contrast, our model uses a recurrent neural network that parses the input shape
in a top-down manner, which is significantly faster and yields a compact and
easy-to-interpret sequence of modeling instructions. Our model is also more
effective as a shape detector compared to existing state-of-the-art detection
techniques. We finally demonstrate that our network can be trained on novel
datasets without ground-truth program annotations through policy gradient

Project SEMACODE : a scale-invariant object recognition system for content-based queries in image databases
For the efficient management of large image databases, the automated characterization of images and the usage of that characterization for searching and ordering tasks is highly desirable. The purpose of the project SEMACODE is to combine the still unsolved problem of content-oriented characterization of images with scale-invariant object recognition and modelbased compression methods. To achieve this goal, existing techniques as well as new concepts related to pattern matching, image encoding, and image compression are examined. The resulting methods are integrated in a common framework with the aid of a content-oriented conception. For the application, an image database at the library of the university of Frankfurt/Main (StUB; about 60000 images), the required operations are developed. The search and query interfaces are defined in close cooperation with the StUB project âDigitized Colonial Picture Libraryâ. This report describes the fundamentals and first results of the image encoding and object recognition algorithms developed within the scope of the project

From on-line sketching to 2D and 3D geometry: A fuzzy knowledge based system
The paper describes the development of a fuzzy knowledge based prototype system for conceptual design. This real time system is designed to infer userâs sketching intentions, to segment sketched input and generate corresponding geometric primitives: straight lines, circles, arcs, ellipses, elliptical arcs, and B-spline curves. Topology information (connectivity, unitary constraints and pairwise constraints) is received dynamically from 2D sketched input and primitives. From the 2D topology information, a more accurate 2D geometry can be built up by applying a 2D geometric constraint solver. Subsequently, 3D geometry can be received feature by feature incrementally. Each feature can be recognised by inference knowledge in terms of matching its 2D primitive configurations and connection relationships. The system accepts not only sketched input, working as an automatic design tools, but also accepts userâs interactive input of both 2D primitives and special positional 3D primitives. This makes it easy and friendly to use. The system has been tested with a number of sketched inputs of 2D and 3D geometry
A generic formalism for the semantic modeling and representation of architectural elements
This article presents a methodological approach to the semantic description of architectural elements based both on theoretical reflections and research experiences. To develop this approach, a first process of extraction and formalization of architectural knowledge on the basis of the analysis of architectural treaties is proposed. Then, the identified features are used to produce a template shape library dedicated to buildings surveying. Finally, the problem of the overall model structuring and organization using semantic information is addressed for user handling purposes
3D mesh refinement procedure using the bisection and rivara algorithms with mesh quality assessment
Mesh refinement procedures for the solution of three dimensional problems are described. The computational\ud
domain is represented by an assembly of tetrahedral elements and the mesh refinement is acheived by the bisection\ud
and Rivara methods using an explicit mesh density function coupled with an automatic 3D mesh generator.\ud
A couple of benchmark examples is used to compare the performance of both refinement methods in terms of mesh\ud
and size qualities, number of generated elements and CPU time consume
