International Law and Chemical, Biological, Radio-Nuclear (CBRN) Events
This book explores the interplay between International Law and Chemical, Biological, Radio-Nuclear (CBRN) risks. An all-hazards approach is adopted to cover events of intentional, accidental and natural origin, and international obligations are presented according to the phases of the emergency management cycle, including prevention, preparedness, response and recovery
Programming Languages and Systems
This open access book constitutes the proceedings of the 31st European Symposium on Programming, ESOP 2022, which was held during April 5-7, 2022, in Munich, Germany, as part of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software, ETAPS 2022. The 21 regular papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 64 submissions. They deal with fundamental issues in the specification, design, analysis, and implementation of programming languages and systems
Automated Deduction â CADE 28
This open access book constitutes the proceeding of the 28th International Conference on Automated Deduction, CADE 28, held virtually in July 2021. The 29 full papers and 7 system descriptions presented together with 2 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 76 submissions. CADE is the major forum for the presentation of research in all aspects of automated deduction, including foundations, applications, implementations, and practical experience. The papers are organized in the following topics: Logical foundations; theory and principles; implementation and application; ATP and AI; and system descriptions
Indigenous Peoples' Cultural Heritage
Indigenous rights to heritage have only recently become the subject of academic scholarship. This collection aims to fill that gap by offering the fruits of a unique conference on this topic organised by the University of Lapland with the help of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The conference made clear that important information on Indigenous cultural heritage has remained unexplored or has not been adequately linked with specific actors (such as WIPO) or specific issues (such as free, prior and informed consent). Indigenous leaders explained the impact that disrespect of their cultural heritage has had on their identity, well-being and development. Experts in social sciences explained the intricacies of indigenous cultural heritage. Human rights scholars talked about the inability of current international law to fully address the injustices towards indigenous communities. Representatives of International organisations discussed new positive developments. This wealth of experiences, materials, ideas and knowledge is contained in this important volume
A comparison of the CAR and DAGAR spatial random effects models with an application to diabetics rate estimation in Belgium
When hierarchically modelling an epidemiological phenomenon on a finite collection of sites in space, one must always take a latent spatial effect into account in order to capture the correlation structure that links the phenomenon to the territory. In this work, we compare two autoregressive spatial models that can be used for this purpose: the classical CAR model and the more recent DAGAR model. Differently from the former, the latter has a desirable property: its Ï parameter can be naturally interpreted as the average neighbor pair correlation and, in addition, this parameter can be directly estimated when the effect is modelled using a DAGAR rather than a CAR structure. As an application, we model the diabetics rate in Belgium in 2014 and show the adequacy of these models in predicting the response variable when no covariates are available
A Statistical Approach to the Alignment of fMRI Data
Multi-subject functional Magnetic Resonance Image studies are critical. The anatomical and functional structure varies across subjects, so the image alignment is necessary. We define a probabilistic model to describe functional alignment. Imposing a prior distribution, as the matrix Fisher Von Mises distribution, of the orthogonal transformation parameter, the anatomical information is embedded in the estimation of the parameters, i.e., penalizing the combination of spatially distant voxels. Real applications show an improvement in the classification and interpretability of the results compared to various functional alignment methods
Gender Based Approaches to the Law and Juris Dictio in Europe
Gender Based Approaches to the Law and Juris Dictio in Europe collects and re-works the contributions presented during the online Conference that took place in June 2020. This Conference represented a very important achievement for ELaN, âEuropean Law and Genderâ project, funded by the European Commission under the Jean Monnet Actions 2019-2022, aimed at offering a specific focus on the relevance of gender equality within the European Union, promoting different, at once comprehensive, trans-disciplinary, and highly innovative perspectives.
All the four sections of the book well represent this attempt to critically use the European Law and European background to highlight how gendered relationships and asymmeÂtries may affect the different fields of regulation.
It has been projected in a challenging scenario, characterized by the health and social emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, in which gender relationships are critically overturned, requiring a combined effort in order to recreate the conditions for further developments of and in gender equality, equity and gender justice.
This book is going to represent the first step toward a wider research path on genderizaÂtion process of law (making) within the European scenario, which the University of Pisa, and the Department of Law in particular, are going to follow
Advances in Cultural Heritage Studies : Year 2020 : Contributions of the European Studentsâ Association for Cultural Heritage
The announcement of the creation of a European Year of Cultural
Heritage (year 2018) â by the Decision 2017/864 of the European
Parliament â encouraged the creation, in 2017, of the European
Studentsâ Association for Cultural Heritage (ESACH).
ESACH has become the first still-growing interdisciplinary and cross-
-generational network in the field. Currently brings together young
researchers and researchers at early stages of their careers, in the
fields of culture and heritage, from all kinds of academic disciplines
and is made up of members from various European universities and
research centres (see www.esach.org).
Within the network, the main questions are: How do we engage with
the past elements of our culture(s)? How and why do we protect
culture as a genuine element of a contemporary cultural system?
What do younger generations state as heritage and what ways do
they see to safeguard and experience it? ESACH stands up for a
participatory way of involvement and is eager to take part in the
cultural discourse at European and national levels.
Since ESACHSâ foundation, the Portuguese publisher Mazu Press
(www.mazupress.com) has been associated with the initiatives of the
Portuguese branch of ESACH based in Lisbon (Sharing Heritage
Lisbon), firstly with the promotion actions and then with the publication of the book âNew Perspectives in Interdisciplinary Cultural
Heritage Studies. Contributions of the European Studentsâ Association
for Cultural Heritage in the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018â.
In this atypical Covid-19 pandemic year, Mazu Press again invited
ESACH to join the renewed idea of âunifying through Cultural
Heritageâ, creating the opportunity for all to associate their efforts to
this volume of âAdvances in Cultural Heritage Studies, Year 2020â.
Until now, ESACH members have been given the opportunity to
contribute their ideas in several European events organized by the
respective stakeholders, such as the Genoa Meeting, in October
2019, which had the cultural, logistic and financial support of the
University of Genoa and foremost the PhD Course in Study and
Enhancement of the Historical, Artistic-Architectural and Environmental Heritage. This book brings together twenty chapters by twenty four authors
from Canada, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia,
Spain and Turkey.
This sharing of knowledge, culture and heritage studies, through
various disciplines, shows the richness â advances and new perspectives â generated by the common passion for cultural heritage.Mazutech R&D; UniversitĂ di Genova / Scuola di Scienze Umanistiche / Dottorato in Studio e Valorizzazione del Patrimonio Storico, Artistico-Architettonico e Ambientaleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
