Fast and Reliable System for Managing Customer Information of a Local Electric Power Generator

    Get PDF
Web applications have become a vital requirement for organizations in managing information, because running any organization through the classic way makes the management process tough. The purpose of this paper is to propose a fast and reliable way to solve the problems that supervisors of an electric power generator face in managing customer information. This will be done through a web-based system. The system will be developed with ASP.NET web framework and MySQL database management system. Ajax and jQuery library will be utilised for smart searching facility and printing dynamic receipts.  It will be easy to use and supports all smart devices because of the help of bootstrap framework. IIS web server and Microsoft Azure cloud virtual machine are used for hosting and running the system. To investigate the workability and efficiency of the system a questionnaire and an interview have been conducted and analysed. The results confirmed that, by using the system, the supervisors can manage customers’ information in an efficient way and it will save a lot of time and money and they will be able to back-up data easily. The findings of the paper can be applied for managing big-data by public or private sectors in Kurdistan

LSAT practicum: an application of human based computation

Human-based computation can be applied to solve problems too hard for a single computer. Crowdsourcing can be applied to ethical modeling by splitting ethical situations among humans. In this senior research project, the crowdsourcing method is applied to produce an ethical model for what web crawlers are allowed to do on websites. By evaluating questions about terms of use on a website, users provide context for the robots. An obstacle to this project is getting the right crowd to participate in the problem. The crowd of potential law students was selected as students typically answer questions to study for a major entrance test into law school. This tool can allow these students to practice legal analysis while letting them build to ethical web knowledge, which is in turn generated into robot-readable code in the form of the Robot Exclusion Protocol. The results were limited by the size of the crowd in this project

Hazweb: An Internet approach to mapping hazardous locations

The purpose of the project was to develop a Web application using GIS data that would map addresses or coordinate information and then find any hazardous areas that may fall within a given distance to this location. The geographic area of this project covers the extent of cities San Bernardino, Redlands, and Yucaipa, California

Patient-oriented Evidence-based Treatment Decision Support System (TreatQuest®) for Lung Cancer

    Get PDF
Involving patients in healthcare decisions makes a significant and enduring difference to healthcare outcomes. One challenge for patients is the lack of evidence-based information and tools to support their decision making. Although patients have access to significant information through internet and other sources, it is not personalized for their specific situation. This dissertation attempts to help patients acquire evidence-based information relevant to their own situation, so they can make a more informed decision in co-operation with their physicians. Lung cancer has been selected as a focus for this study because lung cancer presents very complex decision making situation and is the leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and woman in every ethnic group worldwide. The prototype decision support system for lung cancer is called TreatQuest®. This system allows users to create their own profile, access cases similar to their case, and learn about treatment options. The evidences for the treatment were extracted from public data and knowledge gained from guideline. The effectiveness of patient-oriented evidence-based approach was validated by having a group of patient use the system. TreatQuest® is one of the first system developed to support patient\u27s treatment decision process, which represent the most recent trend in delivery of healthcare services. Results from this study show that such a patient-oriented decision support system provides an effective way to help patient receive more personalized information and make informed treatments. In summary, patient-oriented evidence-based decision support systems such as TreatQuest®, can improve the decision quality for patients. Also, such systems can improve health care decisions that are made with the active participation of fully informed patients. Therefore, patient-oriented evidence-based decision support systems can have significant impact on the healthcare industry

SkyCSR: Optimal Communication Methods for Coordinating Ground Support in a Private and General Aviation Setting

    Get PDF
Delays due to miscommunication of between the pilot and ground service providers are increasing. The objective of this project is to develop a new method of communication between pilots, line service technicians and customer service agents. This will be achieved first through an investigation into current methods and state of the industry, followed by a survey conducted with a group of pilots and flight schools. This culminates in a web application that will take the deficiencies identified in the survey, to make sure ground service or fuel orders are explicitly clear and minimize the probability of a mis-fueling, overlooked fueling, or anything else that could cause a delayed ground service and unhappy customer. The web application, named SkyCSR was developed in Visual Studio in an ASP.NET environment. It has an area for FBO’s to login and view inbound arrivals as well as upcoming fuelings. The application also has a place for pilots to input their ground service needs and also a separate page for fuel orders. During the two iterations, the web application received positive feedback, with most of those who reviewed it saying it would be useful to have. The down fall, is that pilots use so many apps already that it is difficult to get a stand-alone app, like this one, off the ground so to speak. The recommendation for this web application would be to try an integrate it with already existing applications and websites (i.e. ForeFlight, FltPlan.com) that are already widely used and have saturated the pilot market, but not yet developed a side for the Fixed Base Operators
