    ABSTRACT Examination is one of the activities in education through the implementation of a curriculum that cannot be separated from other activities. The success of implementing education according to running the curriculum can be seen from the success of carrying out the test in the real sense because the success of the exam is not only seen in terms of the scores obtained but also seen from the technical factors of the test implementation. The examination system, which is still carried out manually, sometimes causes several obstacles, including obstacles in its implementation, such as lack of paper, even in terms of correcting exam results it will also take more time. In this era of information technology, the learning system paradigm begins to show a shift, namely in the process of transferring knowledge. Electronic-based learning (E-learning) as a learning medium that uses information technology in education provides a very important role for the world of education. Web-based Learning (Web-based Learning) is a learning activity that utilizes a media site (website) that can be accessed via the internet network. In the e-learning concept, the implementation of exams can be done online, starting from giving questions, answering questions to giving test scores. The purpose of this research is to utilize information and communication technology by building an LMS-based online exam application system using Moodle to be more effective in its implementation. In this test application system development research used descriptive analysis techniques to analyze data by describing or describing the data that has been collected from the results of student responses in the trial design to obtain the effectiveness of the LMS-based online exam application system using the Moodle. The web-based online exam application system using Moodle is very effective for the implementation of online exams for students of the Asahan University Informatics Engineering Study Program. It can be seen from the level of achievement of the effectiveness value by students, the average value of effectiveness from 4 aspects of the assessment is 87.74 with the very effective category. Keywords: web based learning, online exam, LMS, Moodle

    Developing e-Examination Voice interface for Visually Impaired students in Open and Distance Learning Context

    Voice-based systems allow users access to information on the internet over a voice interface. Prior studies on Open and Distance Learning (ODL) eexamination systems that make use of voice interface do not sufficiently exhibit intelligent form of assessment, which diminishes the rigour of examination. The objective of this paper is to improve on the achievements of previous studies by providing a framework that will guide the development of a voice-based e-examination expert system for the visually impaired students in ODL. The study employs a combination of technologies such as system design, server side scripting, voice-based system development, data management and rule-based reasoning in developing the system. The system was evaluated to determine the level of usability. The results of the usability evaluation showed that the developed application has an ‘average usability’ rating of 3.48 out of 5 scales. The findings show that the voice-based e-examination system will not only be of immense benefit to the visually impaired students in ODL in respective of distance, but will also complement the existing web-based method for online examination

    Open and Distance learning (ODL) is a means of acquiring knowledge without necessarily being in normal direct communication with the instructor. The aim of ODL is to increase access to education and by extension online examination for those who have difficulty accessing education such as the poor, illiterate, less privileged, and those with location and financial constraints. Most electronic examination (e-examination) systems are web-based, and studies on the accessibility level of distance education show that webbased form of examination does not fully meet the needs of visually impaired persons. Voice-based systems allow users access to information on the internet over a phone interface. Prior studies on ODL e-examination systems that make use of voice user interface do not sufficiently exhibit intelligent form of assessment, which diminishes the rigour of examination. The objective of this project is to improve on the achievements of previous studies by providing a voice-based e-examination expert system for ODL that demonstrates shuffling of examination questions to learners. The study employs a combination of technologies such as system design and modeling using Unified Modeling Language (UML), server side scripting, voice-based system development, data management and rule-based reasoning in order to develop a prototype voice-based eexamination expert system for ODL. The developed system was evaluated to determine the level of performance and usability. The result of the usability evaluation showed that the developed application has an ‘average usability’ rating of 3.48 out of 5 scales. The performance evaluation of the system using Paradigm for Dialogue System Evaluation (PARADISE) gave a score of 4.78 on a scale of 5 as the maximum.     Abstrak. Sistem Ujian Online merupakan sebuah aplikasi sistem ujian atau tes yang dibangun berbasis web sebagai interface-nya. Sulitnya  guru mengetahui kekurangan pelajaran yang akan di ujikan pada setiap siswanya karena jumlah yang terlalu banyak, ujian online sangat di butuhkan karena akan mengatasi keterbatasan waktu antara pendidik dan peserta didik. Terutama untuk menentukan kekurangan pelajaran yang akan di ujikan pada peserta didik. Pada pengembangan sistem, metode yang akan digunakan adalah metode Waterfall dengan langkah-langkah Analisis sitem, Desain sitem dan Implementasi. Analisis sistem menggunakan CD, DFD, DCM, PDM, dan Flowchart. Implementasi dalam penelitian ini adalah coding dan Pengujian Sistem. Penelitian dilakukan di SMK NH Multimedia Poncokusumo dengan sample penelitian Saifudin, Lilik, dan Dita. Menggunakan metode SAW dapat membantu guru dalam menggambil keputusan nilai terendah dalam tiga mata pelajaran yang diujikan dan hasilnya dapat membantu guru dalam menentukan ranking siswa dalam satu kelas. It is difficult for teachers to know the lack of lessons that will be tested on each student because the number is too large, online exams are needed because they will overcome the limited time between educators and students. In system development, the method that will be used is the Waterfall method with the steps of system analysis, system design and implementation. System analysis using CD, DFD, DCM, PDM, and Flowcharts. The implementation in this research is coding and system testing. The research was conducted at SMK NH Multimedia Poncokusumo with research samples of Saifudin, Lilik, and Dita.     Along with the development of education in the industrial era 4.0, it is a demand for the world of education to be able to apply the use of digital technology in the learning process. The application of information technology related to the computer-based student learning evaluation process has attracted the interest of many educational institutions to apply it. Examination that still uses conventional mode usually requires a lot of time, money and effort. Especially in the current pandemic era, learning must be carried out online. Besides the government has determined the implementation of exams using the CBT method for Elementary School (SD) to Senior High School (SMA) levels, the use of the CBT test system can also reduce several problems such as: reducing thel evel of student cheating (cheating), reducing budget costs , and the time it takes to be more effective. The aim of this research is to design and build a web-based CBT information system application that can facilitate student evaluation at MA Sunan Prawoto. The method used in this research is the Research and Development (R&D) method with the waterfall development mode, where the stages include: Communication, Planning, Modeling, Construction and Deployment stages with system design including: Flowchart System Design, Context Diagram, DFD, ERD, Design Tables and DIPO. This research is then implemented into the PHP programming language using the MySQL database. The CBT information system application has been generated. In the testing process through 2 expert validations, an average percentage of 90.6% was obtained where the percentage was included in the very feasible category, while the test results using a user response questionnaire obtained an average percentage of 90.5%, where the percentage is also included in the very decent category

    Development of Telephone-based e-Learning Portal

    The proliferation of mobile phones in Nigeria, particularly among the student community, has continued to inspire the development and delivery of e-Learning applications. Most of the existing web-based e-Learning applications do not support nomadic voice-based learning (i.e. learning on the move through voice), and consequently do not provide a speedy access to information or enquiries on demand. Internet access is required to get every bit of information from most school portal system, which is not directly available to everyone. Lack of provision for voice in the existing web applications excludes support for people with limited capabilities such as the visually impaired and physical disabilities. In this paper, we present a design and development of a prototype telephone-based e-Learning portal that will be used for course registration and examination. This study is part of an ongoing e-Learning project involving the following modules: enrollment, course registration and examination, enquiries/information, messaging/collaboration, e-Learning and library. The prototype application was developed using VoiceXML for the voice user interface(VUI), PHP for database queries, Apache as the middle-ware and MySQL database as back-end. A unified modelling language (UML) was used to model and design the application. The proposed e-Learning system will compliment the web-based system in other to meet the needs of students with a range of disabilities such as visual impairment, repetitive strain injury, etc, that make reading and writing difficult. It also makes multiple platforms available to all users as well as boosting access to education for the physically challenged, particularly the sight impaired in the developing countries of the world.     Global e-learning market is projected to reach $107.3 billion by 2015 according to a new report by The Global Industry Analyst (Analyst 2010). The popularity and growth of the online programmes within the School of Computer Science obviously is in line with this projection. However, also on the rise are students’ dishonesty and cheating in the open and virtual environment of e-learning courses (Shepherd 2008). Institutions offering e-learning programmes are facing the challenges of deterring and detecting these misbehaviours by introducing security mechanisms to the current e-learning platforms. In particular, authenticating that a registered student indeed takes an online assessment, e.g., an exam or a coursework, is essential for the institutions to give the credit to the correct candidate. Authenticating a student is to ensure that a student is indeed who he says he is. Authenticating a student’s work goes one step further to ensure that an authenticated student indeed does the submitted work himself. This report is to investigate and compare current possible techniques and solutions for authenticating distance learning student and/or their work remotely for the elearning programmes.     A FRAMEWORK FOR INTELLIGENT VOICE-ENABLED E-EDUCATION SYSTEMS

    Although the Internet has received significant attention in recent years, voice is still the most convenient and natural way of communicating between human to human or human to computer. In voice applications, users may have different needs which will require the ability of the system to reason, make decisions, be flexible and adapt to requests during interaction. These needs have placed new requirements in voice application development such as use of advanced models, techniques and methodologies which take into account the needs of different users and environments. The ability of a system to behave close to human reasoning is often mentioned as one of the major requirements for the development of voice applications. In this paper, we present a framework for an intelligent voice-enabled e-Education application and an adaptation of the framework for the development of a prototype Course Registration and Examination (CourseRegExamOnline) module. This study is a preliminary report of an ongoing e-Education project containing the following modules: enrollment, course registration and examination, enquiries/information, messaging/collaboration, e-Learning and library. The CourseRegExamOnline module was developed using VoiceXML for the voice user interface(VUI), PHP for the web user interface (WUI), Apache as the middle-ware and MySQL database as back-end. The system would offer dual access modes using the VUI and WUI. The framework would serve as a reference model for developing voice-based e-Education applications.
