The criteria of good governance and governance indicators are analysed with regard of their applicability in building customer orientation of local authorities i.e. increasing market intelligence, disseminating knowledge about current and prospect users of the territory and fostering organizational culture conducive of gathering, sharing and applying market information for satisfying local demand. The objective is to assess usefulness of governance mechanisms in improving marketing management process (i.e. analysis, planning, implementation and control) of the local authorities towards selected groups of target customers (investors, tourists, students). The paper will create the analytical framework for the future research in selected Polish cities. The main good governance rules will be tested both from the governors’ perspectives and from the customer one. The issues below should be taken into consideration n terms of governors’ performance: • focusing on the organisation’s purpose and on outcomes for citizens and service users • performing effectively in clearly defined functions and roles • promoting values for the whole organisation and demonstrating the values of good governance through behaviour • taking informed, transparent decisions and managing risk • developing the capacity and capability of the governing body to be effective • engaging stakeholders and making accountability real Different approaches to public service quality at the operational level and territorial marketing at the strategic level as well as methodologies of measuring governance will be taken into account as a theoretical background.

The Chinese perspective of intercultural competence models revisited

    Get PDF
Most intercultural competence models have been developed by Western experts based on Western theory and Western cultural values, and they are not culturally specific models. The lack of non-Chinese researchers to study and contribute to the construction of intercultural competence from a Chinese-perspective is a serious shortcoming, and most of the models developed by Chinese scholars are a replica of the Western models. A Chinese-perspective of intercultural competence model is indeed needed to reinterpret concepts and theories that are coined in the West, which are then widely used and generalized without any concrete-solid bases of their universality. This paper deployed empirical study methods to analyze the content of the literature to understand the construct of Chinese-perspective intercultural competence models. Eight Chinese-perspectives of intercultural competence models formulated by Chinese scholars between 1998 and 2013 have been identified, two of them are researched in English, while six others are in Chinese. As a result, there are no significant differences in the components of those eight models, as most Chinese scholars agree that cognitive ability, emotional management and communication skills are three of the major components which constitute the Chinese version of intercultural competence models. This research is timely, and is worth conducting, due to increased Chinese investments throughout the world, and the power and influence of China as the world’s largest economy. The results could be used as a guiding operational scheme to prepare business partners from both sides for successful cooperation

Changes taking place in today's globalised world force enterprises to focus more attention on the quality of leadership resulting mainly from actions and decisions taken by superiors, heads or managers of organisations. Striving to strengthen their market position and achieve success, enterprises concentrate on looking for solutions that will allow them to stimulate employees to make changes and develop in order to increase the quality of the functioning of human capital, and thus implement the strategy of the organisation. Effectiveness and quality of leadership depend to a large extent on competences of employees in an organisation, in particular the competences of the managerial staff. The paper presents results of a survey conducted in January 2015 on a group of employees of Polish enterprises. The aim of the paper is to indicate the main characteristics of a superior and their leadership skills in the area of managing employees. It also points out relationships between selected characteristics and the scale and profile of a company's activity, how long it has been functioning on the market and the period of employment of those surveyed

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technology is being used more and more often in small and medium enterprises. This tool is becoming increasingly important in relieving workers from time consuming and boring tasks. The aim of the research was to identify current problems encountered by enterprises when implementing RPA solutions, with particular attention paid to the aspect of change perceived by the employees and the management. As part of the empirical work, monographic research was conducted using the case study procedure in 10 selected small and medium-sized companies operating in Poland. During expert interviews, workers’ resistance against changes was noticed as the greatest obstacle in introducing RPA. Workers’ lack of knowledge about this technology and its tools and the lack of proper change management in organizations are the main factors which impede implementation of RPA. The core actions to success in implementation of software robots are: building awareness among workers, support of leaders, and monitoring of implementation progress. W ramach pracy empirycznej przeprowadzono badania monograficzne z wykorzystaniem procedury studium przypadku w 10 wybranych małych i średnich przedsiębiorstwach działających w Polsce.

The aim of the paper is to analyse contemporary trends in distributed manufacturing (DM) research and to present a concept to develop and test some task allocation, planning and scheduling algorithms for DM network organisations. Some concepts to identify key factor criteria and reasoning policies and rules for production/manufacturing decision support system are also undertaken. And finally, an aim is to draw a proposal for a development of a prototype decision support system with necessary communication and knowledge oriented modules to be implemented in an example of dynamic, DM and logistics network structure, particularly for very popular dynamic cluster forms in Poland. The developed concept of the organization of a multi-entity DM network will enable business-effective use of the system, supporting manufacturing decision making, consulting and offering information services in the control centre (the so-called Competence Centre) by constructing virtual reality and access to services in a distributed network of cloud computing type. Integration of the whole system into one information system will enable analysis and network resource optimization of manufacturing and logistics processes, new analytical functions, reduction of delays in the manufacturing system, management of changes and risks, and visualization of the current state of the DM system
