Research shows the importance of fathers being present in the lives of children. The absence of support for fathers, perpetuates a long standing generational decline in the viability of men as a whole. This work seeks to introduce librarians to the possibilities of libraries offering support for dads. With library use among males being very low, this is also an opportunity for libraries to serve those who are often forgotten. This paper illustrates how the National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) offers a path to help dads and explains how the NFI and libraries can partner through the creation of programs

Use of a Mobile Application to Increase Patient Compliance to a Prescribed Home Exercise Program and Improve Outcomes

Methods: The creator of the app offered free use of their app to a physical therapy clinic. As the app is only compatible with Apple products, the clinic used the app with any patient that had an iPhone. Retrospective review was conducted to determine if differences in patient outcomes were observed. Patients who had access to an iPad or iPhone were considered part of the “app group” and used the mobile app to reference and report PT HEP compliance. Patients without access to an iPad or iPhone were considered part of the “non-app group” and received traditional PT HEP prescription and monitoring. Patient data was extracted from patient medical records, de-identified, and sent to University researchers. An independent t-test was used to analyze age and compliance of the app group and the non-app group. Mann-Whitney U tests were used to analyze number of exercises assigned, global rating of change, functional index score, and pain rating. (See pdf for complete abstract

    Towards a choreography for IRS-III

In this paper we describe our ongoing work in developing a choreog-raphy for IRS-III. IRS-III is a framework and platform for developing WSMO based semantic web services. Our choreography framework is based on the KADS system-user co-operation model and distinguishes between the direction of messages within a conversation and which actor has the initiative. The im-plementation of the framework is based on message pattern handlers which are triggered whenever an incoming message satisfies pre-defined constraints. Our framework is explained through an extensive example
