Detecting Family Resemblance: Automated Genre Classification.
This paper presents results in automated genre classification of digital documents in PDF format. It describes genre classification as an important ingredient in contextualising scientific data and in retrieving targetted material for improving research. The current paper compares the role of visual layout, stylistic features and language model features in clustering documents and presents results in retrieving five selected genres (Scientific Article, Thesis, Periodicals, Business Report, and Form) from a pool of materials populated with documents of the nineteen most popular genres found in our experimental data set.

Winter Active Bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) Achieve High Foraging Rates in Urban Britain
Background: Foraging bumblebees are normally associated with spring and summer in northern Europe. However, there have been sightings of the bumblebee Bombus terrestris during the warmer winters in recent years in southern England. But what floral resources are they relying upon during winter and how much winter forage can they collect? Methodology/Principal Findings: To test if urban areas in the UK provide a rich foraging niche for bees we set up colonies of B. terrestris in the field during two late winter periods (2005/6 & 2006/7) in London, UK, and measured their foraging performance. Fully automatic radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology was used in 2006/7 to enable us to record the complete foraging activity of individually tagged bees. The number of bumblebees present during winter (October 2007 to March 2008) and the main plants they visited were also recorded during transect walks. Queens and workers were observed throughout the winter, suggesting a second generation of bee colonies active during the winter months. Mass flowering shrubs such as Mahonia spp. were identified as important food resources. The foraging experiments showed that bees active during the winter can attain nectar and pollen foraging rates that match, and even surpass, those recorded during summer. Conclusions/Significance: B. terrestris in the UK are now able to utilise a rich winter foraging resource in urban parks and gardens that might at present still be under-exploited, opening up the possibility of further changes in pollinato
Thermodynamics of the superconducting state in Calcium at 200 GPa
The thermodynamic parameters of the superconducting state in Calcium under
the pressure at 200 GPa were calculated. The Coulomb pseudopotential values

shown, that the specific heat's jump at the critical temperature and the
thermodynamic critical field near zero Kelvin strongly decrease with

significantly differ from the predictions based on the BCS model. In
particular, decreases from 2.64 to 1.97 with the Coulomb
pseudopotential; whereas increases from 0.140 to 0.157. The numerical

Proposal for a CLIPS software library
This paper is a proposal to create a software library for the C Language Integrated Production System (CLIPS) expert system shell developed by NASA. Many innovative ideas for extending CLIPS were presented at the First CLIPS Users Conference, including useful user and database interfaces. CLIPS developers would benefit from a software library of reusable code. The CLIPS Users Group should establish a software library-- a course of action to make that happen is proposed. Open discussion to revise this library concept is essential, since only a group effort is likely to succeed. A response form intended to solicit opinions and support from the CLIPS community is included

Institutions, Telecommunications Dynamics and Policy Challenges: Theory and Empirical Analysis for Germany
The telecommunications sector was liberalized in the US and the EU in 1984 and 1998, respectively. In EU countries, price cap regulation has shaped this sector in a pro-competitive way that - with telecommunications obviously being a key element of the information and communications sector (ICT) - has obviously contributed to higher employment and growth. Integrating the use of telecommunications in a macroeconomic production function is the analytical starting point for our interdependent analysis of output, use of telecommunications and employment. Based on unit root and co-integration analysis as well as an error correction three-equation model which are estimated simultaneously, we present results both on long run links and short run links between telecommunications, output and employment. Considering various scenarios suggests that a fall in the relative price of telecommunications can generate a cumulated employment increase of 760,000 within seven years. This points to the need for maintaining the regulation of fixed-line telecommunications networks in Germany with due emphasis on efficiency-enhancing competition.
