Teaching simulation on collaborative learning, ability groups and mixed-ability groups

    Get PDF
In this research, a teaching simulation model is built where the understanding status, knowledge structure, and collaborative effect of each learner are integrated by using a doubly structural network model. The purpose of the model is to analyse the actual conditions of understanding of learners regarding instructions given in classrooms. The influence of teaching strategies on learning effects is analysed in the model. Moreover, the influence of the seating arrangement of learners on collaborative learning effects and ability groups are discussed. As a result of the simulation, the following points were found: (1) the learning effects depend on the difference in teaching strategies, (2) a teaching strategy where learning skills, material structure, and collaborative learning are integrated is the most effective, (3) the seating arrangement affects collaborative learning, and (4) ability groups have adverse effects on learners in collaborative learning

Meta-parametric design: Developing a computational approach for early stage collaborative practice

Computational design is the study of how programmable computers can be integrated into the process of design. It is not simply the use of pre-compiled computer aided design software that aims to replicate the drawing board, but rather the development of computer algorithms as an integral part of the design process. Programmable machines have begun to challenge traditional modes of thinking in architecture and engineering, placing further emphasis on process ahead of the final result. Just as Darwin and Wallace had to think beyond form and inquire into the development of biological organisms to understand evolution, so computational methods enable us to rethink how we approach the design process itself. The subject is broad and multidisciplinary, with influences from design, computer science, mathematics, biology and engineering. This thesis begins similarly wide in its scope, addressing both the technological aspects of computational design and its application on several case study projects in professional practice. By learning through participant observation in combination with secondary research, it is found that design teams can be most effective at the early stage of projects by engaging with the additional complexity this entails. At this concept stage, computational tools such as parametric models are found to have insufficient flexibility for wide design exploration. In response, an approach called Meta-Parametric Design is proposed, inspired by developments in genetic programming (GP). By moving to a higher level of abstraction as computational designers, a Meta-Parametric approach is able to adapt to changing constraints and requirements whilst maintaining an explicit record of process for collaborative working

Design Transactions presents the outcome of new research to emerge from ‘Innochain’, a consortium of six leading European architectural and engineering-focused institutions and their industry partners. The book presents new advances in digital design tooling that challenge established building cultures and systems. It offers new sustainable and materially smart design solutions with a strong focus on changing the way the industry thinks, designs, and builds our physical environment. Divided into sections exploring communication, simulation and materialisation, Design Transactions explores digital and physical prototyping and testing that challenges the traditional linear construction methods of incremental refinement. This novel research investigates ‘the digital chain’ between phases as an opportunity for extended interdisciplinary design collaboration. The highly illustrated book features work from 15 early-stage researchers alongside chapters from world-leading industry collaborators and academics

Leveraging Douyin for Enhanced Learning Motivation: A Study on Educational Strategies and Student Attitudes

    Get PDF
This study investigates the integration of Douyin, known globally as TikTok, in educational settings to enhance student learning motivation. The research aims to understand how the use of Douyin, a platform predominantly used for entertainment, can be effectively repurposed for educational purposes. The study is structured around several key areas: student engagement, self-regulation, teacher facilitation, peer collaboration, personalized learning, and student attitudes towards using Douyin in an educational context. A mixed-method approach is employed, involving both quantitative and qualitative data collection through surveys, interviews, and observational studies. The quantitative data assesses the impact of Douyin on various learning motivation factors, while qualitative data provides in-depth insights into student and teacher experiences. The findings suggest that when used strategically, Douyin can significantly enhance student engagement, promote active learning, and foster a positive learning environment. The study also highlights the importance of teachers’ roles in facilitating effective use of Douyin and the influence of student attitudes on learning outcomes. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on digital technology in education, offering practical implications for educators seeking to integrate social media platforms like Douyin into their teaching practices

    Management and Services

Management in all business areas and organisational activities are the acts of getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives. Service is intangible, therefore, it is not too easy to define the theory application in varieties of service industries. Service Management usually incorporates automated systems along with skilled labour; it also provides service development. Due to enormous demand of service industries and management development, the book under the title "Management and Services" would create a milestone in management arena for all categories of readers including Business Administration, Engineering and Architecture. This book covers educational service development, service-oriented-architecture and case research analysis, including theory application in network security, GRID technology, integrated circuit application. The book is comprised of five chapters and has been divided into two parts. Part A contains chapters on service development in educational institutions and it depicts the application of supply chain management concept in service industries like tertiary educational institutions and multiple ways of web 2.0 applications transforming learning patterns and pathways. To understand the subject in a practical manner, Part B of this book consists of noteworthy case studies and research papers on management and services and represents theory application of Data mining, Fuzzy Cluster, Game theory, GRID Technology, simulation of Operational Amplifier and Current Controlled Conveyor II in network security, architecture, and integrated circuit application
