    Experiencing Pedagogical Practices with Digital Resources in The Teacher Training of English Teachers

    This research deals with the inclusion of digital educational resources in an English teacher-training course and the possible benefit from the use of this in the improvement of the students’ proficiency level. For that, the researchers understood that it was necessary to study theories of second language learning and look for common principles between such theories and information and communication technologies (ICT). The use of the cartographic method to develop the research resulted in three categories of analyses: (a) the relation between SLL theories and ICT; (b) the relation between the students and ICT; and (c) the students’ proficiency level in English. The research generates products which can be used in the processes of teaching and learning in Basic Education, such as papers and a presentation

    Challenging assumptions about relationships between mathematics pedagogy and ICT integration: surveying teachers in English secondary schools

    This study investigates associations between mathematics pedagogy and teachers’ integration of Information Communication Technologies (ICT). As an early adopter of presentation-oriented hardware and software in mathematics classrooms, England represents a critical case for investigating associations between mathematics pedagogy and teachers’ integration of ICT into classroom practice. This paper reports the results of a survey of English secondary mathematics teachers’ use of ICT (n = 183). Using Rasch analysis to construct a measure of mathematics pedagogy, a consistent trend is found between frequent use of “teacher-centred” software and a more “student-centred” orientation. The analysis also suggests that some “teacher-centred” practices involving ICT may instead be construed as “dominant” practices. Taken together with case-study evidence of teachers’ ICT integration from research on technology in education, these findings challenge assumptions about relationships between mathematics pedagogy and ICT integration prevalent in the mathematics education literature

    TEACHER – STUDENT COMMUNICATION FROM PARENTS’ PERSPECTIVE DURING ONLINE TEACHING IN THE TIME OF CORONA CRISIS

    COVID-19 virus, still relatively unknown to the general public, has taken over the world. The period of the coronavirus epidemic has affected all segments of life, including the education system. The traditional way of teaching (face to face) has been replaced by online teaching and a virtual environment through the mediation of information and communication technologies. The aim of this research is to gain insight into parents ’perceptions of teacher-student communication during online teaching in the time of corona crisis. Fifteen parents of lower primary school students participated in the research. A semi-structured interview was used for data collection purposes. Participants’ statements indicate that during online teaching students most often communicated with their teachers via e-mail, WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Classroom, and Teams. As one of the biggest advantages of communication during online teaching, participants stated the improvement of their children's digital competencies and introduction to various communication tools, while they said that the biggest disadvantage were technical difficulties. In order to improve communication between teachers and students during online classes, participants suggested that teachers use videoconferencing more often in their teaching and organize various discussions in virtual classrooms and online forums
