A low computational cost, prioritized, multi-objective optimization procedure for predictive control towards cyber physical systems

    Get PDF
Cyber physical systems consist of heterogeneous elements with multiple dynamic features. Consequently, multiple objectives in the optimality of the overall system may be relevant at various times or during certain context conditions. Low cost, efficient implementations of such multi-objective optimization procedures are necessary when dealing with complex systems with interactions. This work proposes a sequential implementation of a multi-objective optimization procedure suitable for industrial settings and cyber physical systems with strong interaction dynamics. The methodology is used in the context of an Extended Prediction self-adaptive Control (EPSAC) strategy with prioritized objectives. The analysis indicates that the proposed algorithm is significantly lighter in terms of computational time. The combination with an input-output formulation for predictive control makes these algorithms suitable for implementation with standardized process control units. Three simulation examples from different application fields indicate the relevance and feasibility of the proposed algorithm

Application of ā€ART SIMULATORā€ for Manufacturing Similarity Identification in Group Technology Design - Chapter 10

    Get PDF
This chapter 10 carried out the exceptional implementation of ART-1 neural network in the analysis of the manufacturing similarity of the cylindrical parts within the group technology design. Established concept of the group technology design begins from the complex part of the group or the group representative. Group representative has all the geometrical elements of the parts in group, and manufacturing procedure may be applied to the machining of any part in the group. The complex part may be realistic or a hypothetical one. The ART-1 artificial neural network provided manufacturing classification according to the geometrical similarities of work-pieces for the group of cylindrical parts. For the manufacturing similarity identification within the group technology design, software package "ART Simulator" is developed and presented in this chapter

Algorithms and Methods for Designing and Scheduling Smart Manufacturing Systems

This book, as a Special Issue, is a collection of some of the latest advancements in designing and scheduling smart manufacturing systems. The smart manufacturing concept is undoubtedly considered a paradigm shift in manufacturing technology. This conception is part of the Industry 4.0 strategy, or equivalent national policies, and brings new challenges and opportunities for the companies that are facing tough global competition. Industry 4.0 should not only be perceived as one of many possible strategies for manufacturing companies, but also as an important practice within organizations. The main focus of Industry 4.0 implementation is to combine production, information technology, and the internet. The presented Special Issue consists of ten research papers presenting the latest works in the field. The papers include various topics, which can be divided into three categoriesā€”(i) designing and scheduling manufacturing systems (seven articles), (ii) machining process optimization (two articles), (iii) digital insurance platforms (one article). Most of the mentioned research problems are solved in these articles by using genetic algorithms, the harmony search algorithm, the hybrid bat algorithm, the combined whale optimization algorithm, and other optimization and decision-making methods. The above-mentioned groups of articles are briefly described in this order in this book

Optimization of Operation Sequencing in CAPP Using Hybrid Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing Approach

    Get PDF
In any CAPP system, one of the most important process planning functions is selection of the operations and corresponding machines in order to generate the optimal operation sequence. In this paper, the hybrid GA-SA algorithm is used to solve this combinatorial optimization NP (Non-deterministic Polynomial) problem. The network representation is adopted to describe operation and sequencing flexibility in process planning and the mathematical model for process planning is described with the objective of minimizing the production time. Experimental results show effectiveness of the hybrid algorithm that, in comparison with the GA and SA standalone algorithms, gives optimal operation sequence with lesser computational time and lesser number of iterations

Autonomous Navigation of Automated Guided Vehicle Using Monocular Camera

    Get PDF
This paper presents a hybrid control algorithm for Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) consisting of two independent control loops: Position Based Control (PBC) for global navigation within manufacturing environment and Image Based Visual Servoing (IBVS) for fine motions needed for accurate steering towards loading/unloading point. The proposed hybrid control separates the initial transportation task into global navigation towards the goal point, and fine motion from the goal point to the loading/unloading point. In this manner, the need for artificial landmarks or accurate map of the environment is bypassed. Initial experimental results show the usefulness of the proposed approach.COBISS.SR-ID 27383808
