Proof-of-Concept Application - Annual Report Year 1
In this document the Cat-COVITE Application for use in the CATNETS Project is introduced and motivated. Furthermore an introduction to the catallactic middleware and Web Services Agreement (WS-Agreement) concepts is given as a basis for the future work. Requirements for the application of Cat-COVITE with in catallactic systems are analysed. Finally the integration of the Cat-COVITE application and the catallactic middleware is described. --Grid Computing
Cloud based testing of business applications and web services
This paper deals with testing of applications based on the principles of cloud computing. It is aimed to describe options of testing business software in clouds (cloud testing). It identifies the needs for cloud testing tools including multi-layer testing; service level agreement (SLA) based testing, large scale simulation, and on-demand test environment. In a cloud-based model, ICT services are distributed and accessed over networks such as intranet or internet, which offer large data centers deliver on demand,
resources as a service, eliminating the need for investments in specific hardware, software, or on data center infrastructure. Businesses can apply those new technologies in the contest of intellectual capital management to lower the cost and increase competitiveness and also earnings. Based on comparison of the testing tools and techniques, the paper further investigates future trend of cloud based testing tools research and development. It is also important to say that this comparison and classification of testing tools describes a new area and it has not yet been done
Open Source Virtual Machines on Xen: Creation, Implementaion and Analysis
With the rapid emergence of Cloud Computing, lots of organizations, communities, groups and individuals are rushing towards Cloud services. The cloud services have the inherent benefits like minimum running and executing cost, hassle free service accessibility, on demand availability of services, viz. computing services, storage services and even using the platforms and applications directly on pay as per use basis. The backbone of Cloud is Virtualization Technology, which is re-invented to use the underlying physical resources like CPU usage, storage devices, network devices and I/O devices in an efficient and optimum way. Virtual Machine Monitors (VMMs) facilitates this by running multiple instances of Virtual Machines (VMs) that are configurable, updatable, reusable and manageable. To achieve this, open source VMM namely Xen is chosen, which is highly used in most of the Clouds used for commercial and academic purposes. A wide and detailed study of Xen VM creation, implementation, suggestions and critical analysis of the same is presented here, which may help understand the Xen usage in a better way and about the intricacies and challenges of adopting Xen for developing and running applications on it

Grid-based semantic integration of heterogeneous data resources: Implementation on a HealthGrid
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and was awarded by Brunel University.The semantic integration of geographically distributed and heterogeneous data
resources still remains a key challenge in Grid infrastructures. Today's
mainstream Grid technologies hold the promise to meet this challenge in a
systematic manner, making data applications more scalable and manageable. The
thesis conducts a thorough investigation of the problem, the state of the art, and
the related technologies, and proposes an Architecture for Semantic Integration of
Data Sources (ASIDS) addressing the semantic heterogeneity issue. It defines a
simple mechanism for the interoperability of heterogeneous data sources in order
to extract or discover information regardless of their different semantics. The
constituent technologies of this architecture include Globus Toolkit (GT4) and
OGSA-DAI (Open Grid Service Architecture Data Integration and Access)
alongside other web services technologies such as XML (Extensive Markup
Language). To show this, the ASIDS architecture was implemented and tested in a
realistic setting by building an exemplar application prototype on a HealthGrid
(pilot implementation).
The study followed an empirical research methodology and was informed by
extensive literature surveys and a critical analysis of the relevant technologies and
their synergies. The two literature reviews, together with the analysis of the
technology background, have provided a good overview of the current Grid and
HealthGrid landscape, produced some valuable taxonomies, explored new paths
by integrating technologies, and more importantly illuminated the problem and
guided the research process towards a promising solution. Yet the primary
contribution of this research is an approach that uses contemporary Grid
technologies for integrating heterogeneous data resources that have semantically
different. data fields (attributes). It has been practically demonstrated (using a
prototype HealthGrid) that discovery in semantically integrated distributed data
sources can be feasible by using mainstream Grid technologies, which have been
shown to have some Significant advantages over non-Grid based approaches
Moving Information Technology Platforms To The Clouds: Insights Into IT Platform Architecture Transformation
The Long-Term Credit Bank (LTCB) of Japan underwent a very traumatic reorganization beginning in 1998 following Japans economic collapse in 1989. Moving forward: Emerging themes in financial services technologies’ adoption
© 2015 by the Association for Information Systems. Financial services technologies (FST) are core to the continuous transformation of financial services organizations (FSO). To date, however, there has been a lack of empirical research into FST adoption against the backdrop of the recent financial crisis. In this paper, we re-examine how FSO are currently positioned to take advantage of emerging FST. Note that, in this paper, we look forward rather than provide a commentary on the state of the art in technology adoption research. We conducted this research by applying an exploratory qualitative study method: we analyzed interview transcripts from thirty recent interviews of FSO technology executives and CIOs by using a thematic network analysis tool. This analysis uncovered nineteen basic, eight organizing, and two global FST adoption research themes along with their links to FST adoption objectives, challenges, customer centricity, human resources, outsourcing, and overall IT strategy maintenance. This research has both practical and theoretical research implications and serves as a resource base for FSO and researchers to set future research priorities and directions. We intend for the emerging themes that we present in this paper to facilitate research directions by shedding light on the areas of greatest value and potential return in FST adoption
