Coordination and control in project-based work: digital objects and infrastructures for delivery
A major infrastructure project is used to investigate the role of digital objects in the coordination of engineering
design work. From a practice-based perspective, research emphasizes objects as important in enabling
cooperative knowledge work and knowledge sharing. The term ‘boundary object’ has become used in the
analysis of mutual and reciprocal knowledge sharing around physical and digital objects. The aim is to extend
this work by analysing the introduction of an extranet into the public–private partnership project used to
construct a new motorway. Multiple categories of digital objects are mobilized in coordination across
heterogeneous, cross-organizational groups. The main findings are that digital objects provide mechanisms for
accountability and control, as well as for mutual and reciprocal knowledge sharing; and that different types of
objects are nested, forming a digital infrastructure for project delivery. Reconceptualizing boundary objects as
a digital infrastructure for delivery has practical implications for management practices on large projects and
for the use of digital tools, such as building information models, in construction. It provides a starting point
for future research into the changing nature of digitally enabled coordination in project-based work

Enterprise application reuse: Semantic discovery of business grid services
Web services have emerged as a prominent paradigm for the development of distributed software systems as they provide the potential for software to be modularized in a way that functionality can be described, discovered and deployed in a platform independent manner over a network (e.g., intranets, extranets and the Internet). This paper examines an extension of this paradigm to encompass ‘Grid Services’, which enables software capabilities to be recast with an operational focus and support a heterogeneous mix of business software and data, termed a Business Grid - "the grid of semantic services". The current industrial representation of services is predominantly syntactic however, lacking the fundamental semantic underpinnings required to fulfill the goals of any semantically-oriented Grid. Consequently, the use of semantic technology in support of business software heterogeneity is investigated as a likely tool to support a diverse and distributed software inventory and user. Service discovery architecture is therefore developed that is (a) distributed in form, (2) supports distributed service knowledge and (3) automatically extends service knowledge (as greater descriptive precision is inferred from the operating application system). This discovery engine is used to execute several real-word scenarios in order to develop and test a framework for engineering such grid service knowledge. Data Envelopment Analysis (Dea) approach In efficiency transport manufacturing industry in Malaysia
The objective of this study was to measure of technical efficiency, transport manufacturing industry in Malaysia score using the data envelopment analysis (DEA) from 2005 to 2010. The efficiency score analysis used only two inputs, i.e., capital and labor and one output i.e., total of sales. The results shown that the average efficiency score of the Banker, Charnes, Cooper - Variable Returns to Scale (BCC-VRS) model is higher than the Charnes, Cooper, Rhodes - Constant Return to Scale (CCR-CRS) model. Based on the BCC-VRS model, the average efficiency score was at a moderate level and only four sub-industry that recorded an average efficiency score more than 0.50 percent during the period study. The implication of this result suggests that the transport manufacturing industry needs to increase investment, especially in human capital such as employee training, increase communication expenses such as ICT and carry out joint ventures as well as research and development activities to enhance industry efficiency
Blazes: Coordination Analysis for Distributed Programs
Distributed consistency is perhaps the most discussed topic in distributed
systems today. Coordination protocols can ensure consistency, but in practice
they cause undesirable performance unless used judiciously. Scalable
distributed architectures avoid coordination whenever possible, but
under-coordinated systems can exhibit behavioral anomalies under fault, which
are often extremely difficult to debug. This raises significant challenges for
distributed system architects and developers. In this paper we present Blazes,
a cross-platform program analysis framework that (a) identifies program
locations that require coordination to ensure consistent executions, and (b)
automatically synthesizes application-specific coordination code that can
significantly outperform general-purpose techniques. We present two case
studies, one using annotated programs in the Twitter Storm system, and another
