    This paper highlights the current status of digital library services provided by selected public academic libraries in Malaysia. The drift from traditional library to digital library architecture has set drastic changes in favor of adopting knowledge-gain mechanisms via the use of networked and digital environments. With diversity of functions, academic digital library is seen the most awaiting proxy in changing the information culture among academic users. This paper in general attempts to highlight the phenomena of using digital library system in public universities in Malaysia.     Integrative Solutions in Online Crowdsourcing Innovation Challenges

    Online crowdsourcing challenges are widely used for problem-solving and innovation. Existing theory has characterized such challenges as tools for tapping distant knowledge. By building on information processing theory we move beyond this characterization and present a perspective that describes innovation challenges as virtual places in which ideas are not simply submitted or commented upon but knowledge is integrated. This perspective shifts the role of crowdsourcing challenges from mere tools for gathering ideas to representing the locus of innovation. Our perspective suggests that three types of knowledge affect the quality of integrative solutions: elementary ideas, facts, and analogical examples. Based on a large dataset, we find that elementary ideas and analogical examples are related to increased solution quality, while facts are related to decreased solution quality. We expand the research on online crowdsourcing innovation challenges to include how crowd participants influence the quality of solutions through the content of their postings

    Synergizing domain expertise with self-awareness in software systems:a patternized architecture guideline

    To promote engineering self-aware and self-adaptive software systems in a reusable manner, architectural patterns and the related methodology provide an unified solution to handle the recurring problems in the engineering process. However, in existing patterns and methods, domain knowledge and engineers' expertise that is built over time are not explicitly linked to the self-aware processes. This linkage is important, as the knowledge is a valuable asset for the related problems and its absence would cause unnecessary overhead, possibly misleading results and unwise waste of the tremendous benefit that could have been brought by the domain expertise. This paper highlights the importance of synergizing domain expertise and the self-awareness to enable better self-adaptation in software systems, relying on well-defined expertise representation, algorithms and techniques. In particular, we present a holistic framework of notions, enriched patterns and methodology, dubbed DBASES, that offers a principled guideline for the engineers to perform difficulty and benefit analysis on possible synergies, in an attempt to keep "engineers-in-the-loop". Through three tutorial case studies, we demonstrate how DBASES can be applied in different domains, within which a carefully selected set of candidates with different synergies can be used for quantitative investigation, providing more informed decisions of the design choices.Comment: Accepted manuscript to the Proceedings of the IEEE.     Analyzing and Evaluating today’s Power of Open Source: The Open Source Value Canvas

    The drastically progressing digitalization of society and economy shines a new light on the open-source paradigm. Previously, open-source was merely a developer paradigm to share code openly and make it available to others. However, given the need for innovation and optimization, companies can leverage open-source components to use out of the box, build services on top, or replace commodifiable services. Subsequently, there is great potential to create new value in companies using open-source components. To assist companies and researchers in achieving this, the paper presents the Open Source Value Canvas for companies’ collaborative and interdisciplinary identification of open-source value. It particularly aims at analyzing and aligning the open-source potentials from the business and IT perspectives.     OPERAS: bringing the long tail of Social Sciences and Humanities into Open Science

The talk  presents OPERAS, a comprehensive infrastructure aimed at providing a pan-European infrastructure to rethink and reshape publishing, discovery and dissemination addressing the specificity and the critical issues of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH). OPERAS' aim is to meet the specific needs of SSH scholars in an open environment, taking care of all the steps of the scholarly communication cycle. OPERAS' unique approach is to unite researchers, libraries and publishers in a common effort, in order to take back control over scholarly communication. Not merging nor replacing, but nurturing existing realities, OPERAS provides innovative services to bring SSH into Open Science. OPERAS is designed to elaborate effective and scalable long-term strategies for the future development of the digital infrastructure and community building needed to innovate scholarly communication in the SSH. OPERAS' pervading idea of science as communication holds an immense potential for an inspiring model of Open Science with direct societal impact, based on continuous communication.</p

    Strategic Use of Computers for Developing Creativity in Studio Design

    The basic principle of computer technology in terms of the use of hardware and software in the world of design is utilized to assist in working to improve: efficiency, effectiveness, creativity and quality of the work of designers. On the other hand, the design itself is an unique process and not everything can be done by computer, so the natural ability of a designer is still needed. Level 1,2,3,4 design studio activities and final project gives adequate time and provide opportunities for synergizing ability to control and use of computer in its application to activities in the design studio, is expected to even further strengthen the quality and creativity and the ability to design basic. Therefore we need appropriate learning strategies and integrated; curriculum as a whole, related subjects and methods of learning studio itself. This integration is expected to fulfill the desire to shape students to become designers who are more reliable than previous learning systems. The study of learning strategies and examples of studio application of computer technology shows that the application of computers in design studios did not reduce the basic skills that have been prosecuted in design education, and even was able to further improve student exploration and creativity in design in the design studio

    NASA SpaceCube Intelligent Multi-Purpose System for Enabling Remote Sensing, Communication, and Navigation in Mission Architectures

    New, innovative CubeSat mission concepts demand modern capabilities such as artificial intelligence and autonomy, constellation coordination, fault mitigation, and robotic servicing – all of which require vastly more processing resources than legacy systems are capable of providing. Enabling these domains within a scalable, configurable processing architecture is advantageous because it also allows for the flexibility to address varying mission roles, such as a command and data-handling system, a high-performance application processor extension, a guidance and navigation solution, or an instrument/sensor interface. This paper describes the NASA SpaceCube Intelligent Multi-Purpose System (IMPS), which allows mission developers to mix-and-match 1U (10 cm × 10 cm) CubeSat payloads configured for mission-specific needs. The central enabling component of the system architecture to address these concerns is the SpaceCube v3.0 Mini Processor. This single-board computer features the 20nm Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA combined with a radiation-hardened FPGA monitor, and extensive IO to integrate and interconnect varying cards within the system. To unify the re-usable designs within this architecture, the CubeSat Card Standard was developed to guide design of 1U cards. This standard defines pinout configurations, mechanical, and electrical specifications for 1U CubeSat cards, allowing the backplane and mechanical enclosure to be easily extended. NASA has developed several cards adhering to the standard (System-on-Chip, power card, etc.), which allows the flexibility to configure a payload from a common catalog of cards

    The Relationship of Knowledge Management and Organizational Performance in Science and Technology Parks of Iran

    Any effective and sustainable changes in an organization refers to three areas related with each other and play the best way in the humans, structure and technology fields. The Knowledge management by emphasizing the three areas with the axis of man and preparing him as a knowledge worker tries to achieve organizational goals.Purpose: The current study aims to investigate the existing relationship between knowledge management infrastructures, knowledge management process capabilities, creative organizational learning, and organizational performance.Originality/value: Previous researches did not appraise the effect of knowledge management and its capabilities on organizational performance, and the specific influence of creative organizational learning was disregarded. The present study demonstrates the mechanism of knowledge management effect on organizational performance and describes the comprehensive dimensions of knowledge management performance.Methodology: Statistical population includes executives of Knowledge based companies in Science and Technology Parks of Iran. The 336 questionnaire was distributed to the census, 248questionnaireswerecompletedcorrectly. The research data were analyzed by PLS software. The unit of analysis is a company that has adopted a KMS. Target population of the research consisted of 700 Top Managers of Knowledge based companies in Science and Technology Parks of Iran (N=700). Random sampling method applied in this study and 248Top Managers were considered as the statistical sample based on "Morgan Table". One standard 5-point Likert questionnaire adopted and distributed between Top managers in the park. 252 questionnaires were returned among which 248 ones were statistically investigated. The structural relations among variables were tested using the partial least squares (PLS) method.Findings: This study shows that the KM processes can mediate between creative organizational learning and factors in the KM infrastructure. The results of the study demonstrate that knowledge management process capabilities has the most crucial role in creative organizational learning. The results indicate that there is a significant influence of the infrastructure capabilities (Collaboration, Trust, Learning Culture, Decentralization, Top Management, Promotion, IT support) on the process capabilities, also the impacts of knowledge management process capabilities on creative organizational learning and the impacts of creative organizational learning on organizational performance was confirmed
