Website Technology Trends for Augmented Reality Development
Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that is gaining increasing attention from academics and industry. AR is relied upon to be an innovative technology to enrich ways of interacting with the physical and cyberspace around users that can enhance user experience in various fields. Platforms for AR applications are usually hardware based and mobile based, for mobile applications AR is usually based. AR-based hardware requires quite expensive support, this is seen from the rendering space requirements and this makes it inflexible while AR-based applications on mobile smartphones require large storage space and do not make it convenient for cross-platform use. Currently many researchers are trying to create and develop website-based AR, as a solution to the spread of AR to be flexible and save storage space, website technology development trends are used as a method for improving the performance of website-based AR. Other support comes from open-source software and more developer platforms and program courses for Web AR that are made public. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art, various methods, technologies and challenges of existing AR, this can be a trigger for more research interest and efforts to provide AR experienc
A Nine Month Report on Progress Towards a Framework for Evaluating Advanced Search Interfaces considering Information Retrieval and Human Computer Interaction
This is a nine month progress report detailing my research into supporting users in their search for information, where the questions, results or even thei
Augmented Reality in Information Systems Research: A Systematic Literature Review
Augmented Reality (AR) is one of the most prominent emerging technologies recently. This increase in recognition has happened predominantly because of the success of the smartphone game PokƩmon Go . But research on AR is not a new strand of literature. Especially computer scientists investigate different technological solutions and areas of application for almost 30 years. This systematic literature review aims at analyzing, synthesizing and categorizing this strand of research in the information systems (IS) domain. We follow an established methodology for conducting the literature review ensuring rigor and replicability. We apply a keyword and backward search resulting in 28 and 118 articles, respectively. Results are categorized with regard to the focus of the research and the domain of the application being investigated. We show that research on user behavior is underrepresented in the current IS literature on AR compared to technical research, especially in the domains gaming and smartphone browsers
Augmented Reality Based Product Availability Checker Using Junaio Browser
This project is about augmented reality (AR) used in Smartphone to aid people in
checking product availability. Augmented reality is used as it is fast moving
technology that becomes common to people but less known to the Malaysian. This
project is about helping people in knowing what do they have in surrounding but it is
strictly limited to buildings around them. Some people might not know what places
or shops are there but to some people they are not familiar with the place. This
project can be used by everyone regardless of their intention. Depending on the
intended use, the basic system could incorporate a wide range of other components
adapted for specific operational functions [19]. Some may use it to know what are
the shops nearby, or they can check what are the shops selling or if they now one
particular shop are selling, they might want to know whether the product they
looking for is available or not. By using augmented reality, it can help bypass some
steps in traditional searching process like people use Google search to find for
something and not all the information available on the internet
Using AR and VR characters for enhancing user experience in a museum
Museums and cultural heritage institutions have used technology to create interactive exhibits and pedagogical tools that help spark visitorsā interests. The rise of Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Reality Systems has further enabled the creation of a new generation of immersive experiences that can engage and educate visitors. These technologies can be used to develop digital characters that can serve as virtual tour guides and improve user engagement by answering questions and forming social bonds with the users. While such tour guides have been deployed as exhibits at many museums, the implementation is usually limited to a single exhibit or a section of the museum space. We believe that visitors will be better served if the virtual guide not only enriches the onsite experience but also provides a take-home experience for users to encourage future visits. This thesis explores the enhancement in user experience that such a system can bring by offering onsite and offsite AR and WebVR technologies to create a virtual tour guide that assists visitors at the Genesee Country Village & Museum through interactive dialog as they explore the historic village on the museum campus
