    Abstract. The scenario defined by current Web architectures and paradigms (such as Cloud Computing), poses challenges and opportunities to users. On the one hand, they have to manage huge amounts of digital resources handled by different applications in spite of their possibly related content; on the other hand, they are enabled to share knowledge and participate to content creation. The interaction of these two aspects provided a great impulse to collaborative resource management: in this paper we present T++, an environment that ex-ploits semantic knowledge about digital resources in order to face these chal-lenges, by providing an integrated and smart management of heterogeneous in-formation objects

    Designing a novel virtual collaborative environment to support collaboration in design review meetings

    Project review meetings are part of the project management process and are organised to assess progress and resolve any design conflicts to avoid delays in construction. One of the key challenges during a project review meeting is to bring the stakeholders together and use this time effectively to address design issues as quickly as possible. At present, current technology solutions based on BIM or CAD are information-centric and do not allow project teams to collectively explore the design from a range of perspectives and brainstorm ideas when design conflicts are encountered. This paper presents a system architecture that can be used to support multi-functional team collaboration more effectively during such design review meetings. The proposed architecture illustrates how information-centric BIM or CAD systems can be made human- and team-centric to enhance team communication and problem solving. An implementation of the proposed system architecture has been tested for its utility, likability and usefulness during design review meetings. The evaluation results suggest that the collaboration platform has the potential to enhance collaboration among multi-functional teams

    Description of six scenarios and of the results of six validated trialsThis deliverable aims at presenting and analysing the processes of elaboration and validation of the PALETTE scenarios. After having defined these two processes and situated them into the PALETTE methodology, the scenarios are presented. For each scenario, the specific methodology of elaboration and validation is described with a special focus on the participation of the concerned Communities of Pratcice (CoPs). Then the results of the validation are presented as well as the reports of their technical feasability and the usability of PALETTE services from a user perspective. Finally we reflect on and we discuss about the whole process of validation of the scenarios and we describe the next steps towards the development of the scenarios and their trilas with the CoPs

    An Integrated Support to Collaborative Semantic Annotation

    Everybody experiences every day the need to manage a huge amount of heterogeneous shared resources, causing information overload and fragmentation problems. Collaborative annotation tools are the most common way to address these issues, but collaboratively tagging resources is usually perceived as a boring and time consuming activity and a possible source of conflicts. To face this challenge, collaborative systems should effectively support users in the resource annotation activity and in the definition of a shared view. The main contribution of this paper is the presentation and the evaluation of a set of mechanisms (personal annotations over shared resources and tag suggestions) that provide users with the mentioned support. The goal of the evaluation was to (1) assess the improvement with respect to the situation without support; (2) evaluate the satisfaction of the users, with respect to both the final choice of annotations and possible conflicts; (3) evaluate the usefulness of the support mechanisms in terms of actual usage and user perception. The experiment consisted in a simulated collaborative work scenario, where small groups of users annotated a few resources and then answered a questionnaire. The evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed support mechanisms can reduce both overload and possible disagreement

The development of new technologies and internet capabilities promoted the emergence of new collaboration types, i.e., collaboration using software connected through internet (Collaborative Workspaces software). The use of the internet amplifies the range of action and the speed of communication among the actors involved in a collaboration. The collaboration amongst organizations is project-oriented (the common goal is to deal with projects) where several actors involved in the collaboration share their knowledge with each other. These actors are, indeed, the knowledge holders and the system which supports the collaboration has to collect and assess the knowledge from them. For this reason, this thesis aims to design and implement a software infrastructure to capture and capitalize the knowledge created over several projects. Such software is human-centered and has an autonomous, proactive and reactive behaviour to handle all users‟ needs. This software promotes its own continuous learning by analysing humans‟ behaviour over several projects, extracting information from that behaviour, and having Context-awareness. Additionally, it relies on Data mining technologies and semantic services, in order to provide a continuous monitoring of the whole project during its life cycle. The software developed is called “Companion” and has been assessed as a part of the CoSpaces Integrated Project
