Towards the integration of enterprise software: The business manufacturing intelligence
Nowadays, the Information Communication Technology has pervaded literally the companies. In the company circulates an huge amount of information but too much information doesnât provide any added value. The overload of information exceeds individual processing capacity and slowdowns decision making operations. We must transform the enormous quantity of information in useful knowledge taking in consideration that information becomes obsolete quickly in condition of dynamic market. Companies process this information by specific software for managing, efficiently and effectively, the business processes. In this paper we analyse the myriad of acronyms of software that is used in enterprises with the changes that occurred over the time, from production to decision making until to convergence in an intelligent modular enterprise software, that we named Business Manufacturing Intelligence (BMI), that will manage and support the enterprise in the futurebusiness manufacturing intelligence, enterprise resource planning; business intelligence; management software; automation software; decision making software
Megastructures: a great-size solution for affordable housing. The case study of Rome
During the 70âs and 80âs, affordable housing production in Europe faced the huge
emergency caused by rising urbanization. In suburban areas of European main cities,
megastructures appeared, drawing visible marks in urban fabric. Megastructures were
planned to synthesize residential functions and all existing services of traditional city in
unique buildings. Nowadays, these buildings are affected by bad physical conditions and
they are no longer able to satisfy the needs of the contemporary demand. The proposed
paper investigates the genesis of housing megastructures with particular regards to the
Italian case and council housing districts realized in Rome within the 1st public plan for
council and affordable housing (1964), an original plan for the settlement of 700,000
inhabitants. A focus will be proposed concerning the differences between megastructures
and traditional big buildings and the main connections between the spread of great-size
buildings and the industrialization and automatization of construction techniques. An
insight about possible future regenerations intervention is suggested
Re-enacting Early Video Art as a Research Tool for Media Art Histories
This paper will discuss re-enactment as a relevant tool for practice-based research to investigate pioneering video performances and video artworks from the 1970s and 1980s from a theoretical, art-historical and curatorial point of view. Since the early 2000s, the re-enactment of artistsâ performance has been growing as an art practice internationally and has been investigated in several studies and exhibitions. In this paper, I will pro- pose that the re-enactment of early video artworks can open up critical analysis on the original workâits nature, form and contentâas well as on collective and personal memory and mediation. Re-enactment becomes a research tool that investigates the nature of video which was at the time a relatively new medium. Re-enactment informs the research into the original piece, its documentation, the relationships between the artist and the body, the work and the viewer. It investigates the effects of analogue video on the viewer and the artist in comparison with the digital video employed in the re-enactment and its documentation. The paper will analyse case studies from the research projects REWIND, REWINDItalia and EWVA (European Womenâs Video Art in the 70s and 80s)
Old Wine in New Skins? Revisiting the Software Architecture for IP Network Stacks on Constrained IoT Devices
In this paper, we argue that existing concepts for the design and
implementation of network stacks for constrained devices do not comply with the
requirements of current and upcoming Internet of Things (IoT) use cases. The
IoT requires not only a lightweight but also a modular network stack, based on
standards. We discuss functional and non-functional requirements for the
software architecture of the network stack on constrained IoT devices. Then,
revisiting concepts from the early Internet as well as current implementations,
we propose a future-proof alternative to existing IoT network stack
architectures, and provide an initial evaluation of this proposal based on its
implementation running on top of state-of-the-art IoT operating system and

Strategy for Innovation and Knowledge Creation in the Aeronautical Industrial Cluster in Campania Region.
This empirical study is a part of a large theoretical and empirical research project, ĂąâŹĆIKINET â International Knowledge and Innovation Networkù⏠(EU FP6, NĂ° CIT2-CT-2004-506242), coordinated by University of Roma ĂąâŹĆTor VergataĂąâŹ, on the international/interregional dimension of existing knowledge and innovation networks, where not only information or codified knowledge, as in the collaboration between RTD institutions, but also tacit knowledge, know-how and competencies circulate. With particular focus on how to decrease the ĂąâŹĆorganisational and institutional distanceù⏠between the various regions at the international/interregional level, since tacit knowledge and innovation capabilities often are embodied in human capital and individual organisations and institutions. The aim of the paper is to identify the key barriers to an efficient operation of knowledge creation and transfer and innovation networks in the Aeronautical Industrial Cluster in Campania Region, in the south of Italy. In Campania there is a long tradition in this sector and today there are about sixty enterprise that work in the sector, we use, like sample of the regional industrial, fifteen enterprise subdivide in large primer contractor and suppliers of first and second range. Information and data on the selected sample are colleted, and also by suitable questionnaires, and interviews, that the authors have submitted to the entrepreneurs and to the top managers of either the enterprises. We focalize our analysis on firm recent performance and related factor of competitiveness; organizational characteristics of the firms, competencies and management of human resources; innovation history and knowledge creation and transfer processes within the firms; finally we analyze from qualitative point of view relevance of enterprise in the cluster like technological crux. Examined sample give back a realty extremely composed with strategy really different but with some common aim and operative behaviourism that let us to deduce some homogenous group.
What do older people do when sitting and why? Implications for decreasing sedentary behaviour
Background and Objectives:
Sitting less can reduce older adultsâ risk of ill health and disability. Effective sedentary behavior interventions require greater understanding of what older adults do when sitting (and not sitting), and why. This study compares the types, context, and role of sitting activities in the daily lives of older men and women who sit more or less than average.
Research Design and Methods:
Semistructured interviews with 44 older men and women of different ages, socioeconomic status, and objectively measured sedentary behavior were analyzed using social practice theory to explore the multifactorial, inter-relational influences on their sedentary behavior. Thematic frameworks facilitated between-group comparisons.
Results:
Older adults described many different leisure time, household, transport, and occupational sitting and non-sitting activities. Leisure-time sitting in the home (e.g., watching TV) was most common, but many non-sitting activities, including âpotteringâ doing household chores, also took place at home. Other people and access to leisure facilities were associated with lower sedentary behavior. The distinction between being busy/not busy was more important to most participants than sitting/not sitting, and informed their judgments about high-value âpurposefulâ (social, cognitively active, restorative) sitting and low-value âpassiveâ sitting. Declining physical function contributed to temporal sitting patterns that did not vary much from day-to-day.
Discussion and Implications:
Sitting is associated with cognitive, social, and/or restorative benefits, embedded within older adultsâ daily routines, and therefore difficult to change. Useful strategies include supporting older adults to engage with other people and local facilities outside the home, and break up periods of passive sitting at home
Towards personalization in digital libraries through ontologies
In this paper we describe a browsing and searching personalization system for digital libraries based on the use of ontologies for describing the relationships between all the
elements which take part in a digital library scenario of use. The main goal of this project is to help the users of a digital library to improve their experience of use by means of two complementary strategies: first, by maintaining a complete history record of his or her browsing and searching activities, which is part of a navigational user profile which includes preferences and all the aspects related to community involvement; and second, by reusing all the knowledge which has been extracted from previous usage from other users with similar profiles. This can be accomplished in terms of narrowing and focusing the search results and browsing options through the use of a recommendation system which organizes such results in the most appropriate manner, using ontologies and concepts drawn from the semantic web field. The complete integration of the experience of use of a digital library in the learning process is also pursued. Both the usage and information organization can be also exploited to extract useful knowledge from the way users interact with a digital library, knowledge that can be used to improve several design aspects of the library, ranging from internal organization aspects to human factors and user interfaces. Although this project is still on an early development stage, it is possible to identify all the desired functionalities and requirements that are necessary to fully integrate the use of a digital library in an e-learning environment
