Grounding Dynamic Spatial Relations for Embodied (Robot) Interaction
This paper presents a computational model of the processing of dynamic
spatial relations occurring in an embodied robotic interaction setup. A
complete system is introduced that allows autonomous robots to produce and
interpret dynamic spatial phrases (in English) given an environment of moving
objects. The model unites two separate research strands: computational
cognitive semantics and on commonsense spatial representation and reasoning.
The model for the first time demonstrates an integration of these different

Transitioning Applications to Semantic Web Services: An Automated Formal Approach
Semantic Web Services have been recognized as a promising technology that exhibits huge commercial potential, and attract significant attention from both industry and the research community. Despite expectations being high, the industrial take-up of Semantic Web Service technologies has been slower than expected. One of the main reasons is that many systems have been developed without considering the potential of the web in integrating services and sharing resources. Without a systematic methodology and proper tool support, the migration from legacy systems to Semantic Web Service-based systems can be a very tedious and expensive process, which carries a definite risk of failure. There is an urgent need to provide strategies which allow the migration of legacy systems to Semantic Web Services platforms, and also tools to support such a strategy. In this paper we propose a methodology for transitioning these applications to Semantic Web Services by taking the advantage of rigorous mathematical methods. Sawja: Static Analysis Workshop for Java
Static analysis is a powerful technique for automatic verification of
programs but raises major engineering challenges when developing a full-fledged
analyzer for a realistic language such as Java. This paper describes the Sawja
library: a static analysis framework fully compliant with Java 6 which provides
OCaml modules for efficiently manipulating Java bytecode programs. We present
the main features of the library, including (i) efficient functional
data-structures for representing program with implicit sharing and lazy
parsing, (ii) an intermediate stack-less representation, and (iii) fast
computation and manipulation of complete programs
KLAIM: A Kernel Language for Agents Interaction and Mobility
We investigate the issue of designing a kernel programming language for mobile computing and describe KLAIM, a language that supports a programming paradigm where processes, like data, can be moved from one computing environment to another. The language consists of a core Linda with multiple tuple spaces and of a set of operators for building processes. KLAIM naturally supports programming with explicit localities. Localities are first-class data (they can be manipulated like any other data), but the language provides coordination mechanisms to control the interaction protocols among located processes. The formal operational semantics is useful for discussing the design of the language and provides guidelines for implementations. KLAIM is equipped with a type system that statically checks access rights violations of mobile agents. Types are used to describe the intentions (read, write, execute, etc.) of processes in relation to the various localities. The type system is used to determine the operations that processes want to perform at each locality, and to check whether they comply with the declared intentions and whether they have the necessary rights to perform the intended operations at the specific localities. Via a series of examples, we show that many mobile code programming paradigms can be naturally implemented in our kernel language. We also present a prototype implementaton of KLAIM in Java

A programming environment supports the activity of developing and maintaining software. New environments provide language-oriented tools such as syntax-directed editors, whose usefulness is enhanced because they embody language-specific knowledge. When syntactic and semantic analysis occur early in the cycle of program production, that is, during editing, the use of a standard compiler is inefficient, for it must re-analyze the program before generating code. Likewise, it is inefficient to recompile an entire file, when the editor can determine that only portions of it need updating. The pcg, or Pascal code generation, facility described here generates code directly from the syntax trees produced by the SAGA syntax directed Pascal editor. By preserving the intermediate code used in the previous compilation, it can limit recompilation to the routines actually modified by editing
Leveraging Semantic Web Technologies for Managing Resources in a Multi-Domain Infrastructure-as-a-Service Environment
This paper reports on experience with using semantically-enabled network
resource models to construct an operational multi-domain networked
infrastructure-as-a-service (NIaaS) testbed called ExoGENI, recently funded
through NSF's GENI project. A defining property of NIaaS is the deep
integration of network provisioning functions alongside the more common storage
and computation provisioning functions. Resource provider topologies and user
requests can be described using network resource models with common base
classes for fundamental cyber-resources (links, nodes, interfaces) specialized
via virtualization and adaptations between networking layers to specific
technologies.
This problem space gives rise to a number of application areas where semantic
web technologies become highly useful - common information models and resource
class hierarchies simplify resource descriptions from multiple providers,
pathfinding and topology embedding algorithms rely on query abstractions as
building blocks.
The paper describes how the semantic resource description models enable
ExoGENI to autonomously instantiate on-demand virtual topologies of virtual
machines provisioned from cloud providers and are linked by on-demand virtual
connections acquired from multiple autonomous network providers to serve a
variety of applications ranging from distributed system experiments to
high-performance computing
Using formal metamodels to check consistency of functional views in information systems specification
UML notations require adaptation for applications such as Information Systems (IS). Thus we have defined IS-UML. The purpose of this article is twofold. First, we propose an extension to this language to deal with functional aspects of IS. We use two views to specify IS transactions: the first one is defined as a combination of behavioural UML diagrams (collaboration and state diagrams), and the second one is based on the definition of specific classes of an extended class diagram. The final objective of the article is to consider consistency issues between the various diagrams of an IS-UML specification. In common with other UML languages, we use a metamodel to define IS-UML. We use class diagrams to summarize the metamodel structure and a formal language, B, for the full metamodel.
