A Survey on Software Testing Techniques using Genetic Algorithm
The overall aim of the software industry is to ensure delivery of high
quality software to the end user. To ensure high quality software, it is
required to test software. Testing ensures that software meets user
specifications and requirements. However, the field of software testing has a
number of underlying issues like effective generation of test cases,
prioritisation of test cases etc which need to be tackled. These issues demand
on effort, time and cost of the testing. Different techniques and methodologies
have been proposed for taking care of these issues. Use of evolutionary
algorithms for automatic test generation has been an area of interest for many
researchers. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is one such form of evolutionary
algorithms. In this research paper, we present a survey of GA approach for

Development and Validation of Functional Model of a Cruise Control System
Modern automobiles can be considered as a collection of many subsystems
working with each other to realize safe transportation of the occupants.
Innovative technologies that make transportation easier are increasingly
incorporated into the automobile in the form of functionalities. These new
functionalities in turn increase the complexity of the system framework present
and traceability is lost or becomes very tricky in the process. This hugely
impacts the development phase of an automobile, in which, the safety and
reliability of the automobile design should be ensured. Hence, there is a need
to ensure operational safety of the vehicles while adding new functionalities
to the vehicle. To address this issue, functional models of such systems are
created and analysed. The main purpose of developing a functional model is to
improve the traceability and reusability of a system which reduces development
time and cost. Operational safety of the system is ensured by analysing the
system with respect to random and systematic failures and including safety
mechanism to prevent such failures. This paper discusses the development and
validation of a functional model of a conventional cruise control system in a
passenger vehicle based on the ISO 26262 Road Vehicles - Functional Safety
standard. A methodology for creating functional architectures and an
architecture of a cruise control system developed using the methodology are

Automatic test cases generation from software specifications modules
A new technique is proposed in this paper to extend the Integrated Classification Tree Methodology (ICTM) developed by Chen et al. [13] This software assists testers to construct test cases from functional specifications. A Unified Modelling Language (UML) class diagram and Object Constraint Language (OCL) are used in this paper to represent the software specifications. Each classification and associated class in the software specification is represented by classes and attributes in the class diagram. Software specification relationships are represented by associated and hierarchical relationships in the class diagram. To ensure that relationships are consistent, an automatic methodology is proposed to capture and control the class relationships in a systematic way. This can help to reduce duplication and illegitimate test cases, which improves the testing efficiency and minimises the time and cost of the testing. The methodology introduced in this paper extracts only the legitimate test cases, by removing the duplicate test cases and those incomputable with the software specifications. Large amounts of time would have been needed to execute all of the test cases; therefore, a methodology was proposed which aimed to select a best testing path. This path guarantees the highest coverage of system units and avoids using all generated test cases. This path reduces the time and cost of the testing
Automatic instantiation of abstract tests on specific configurations for large critical control systems
Computer-based control systems have grown in size, complexity, distribution
and criticality. In this paper a methodology is presented to perform an
abstract testing of such large control systems in an efficient way: an abstract
test is specified directly from system functional requirements and has to be
instantiated in more test runs to cover a specific configuration, comprising
any number of control entities (sensors, actuators and logic processes). Such a
process is usually performed by hand for each installation of the control
system, requiring a considerable time effort and being an error prone
verification activity. To automate a safe passage from abstract tests, related
to the so called generic software application, to any specific installation, an
algorithm is provided, starting from a reference architecture and a state-based
behavioural model of the control software. The presented approach has been
applied to a railway interlocking system, demonstrating its feasibility and
effectiveness in several years of testing experience
Plug & Test at System Level via Testable TLM Primitives
With the evolution of Electronic System Level (ESL) design methodologies, we are experiencing an extensive use of Transaction-Level Modeling (TLM). TLM is a high-level approach to modeling digital systems where details of the communication among modules are separated from the those of the implementation of functional units. This paper represents a first step toward the automatic insertion of testing capabilities at the transaction level by definition of testable TLM primitives. The use of testable TLM primitives should help designers to easily get testable transaction level descriptions implementing what we call a "Plug & Test" design methodology. The proposed approach is intended to work both with hardware and software implementations. Engineering model transformations with transML

The increasing complexity of systems and modelling languages has dramatically raised the complexity and size of model transformations as well. Even though many transformation languages and tools have been proposed in the last few years, most of them are directed to the implementation phase of transformation development. In this way, even though transformations should be built using sound engineering principles—just like any other kind of software—there is currently a lack of cohesive support for the other phases of the transformation development, like requirements, analysis, design and testing. In this paper, we propose a unified family of languages to cover the life cycle of transformation development enabling the engineering of transformations. A Model-Driven approach for functional test case generation
Test phase is one of the most critical phases in software engineering life cycle to assure the final system quality. In this context, functional system test cases verify that the system under test fulfills its functional specification. Thus, these test cases are frequently designed from the different scenarios and alternatives depicted in functional requirements. The objective of this paper is to introduce a systematic process based on the Model-Driven paradigm to automate the generation of functional test cases from functional requirements. For this aim, a set of metamodels and transformations and also a specific language domain to use them is presented. Detecting Functional Requirements Inconsistencies within Multi-teams Projects Framed into a Model-based Web Methodology
One of the most essential processes within the software project life cycle is the REP (Requirements
Engineering Process) because it allows specifying the software product requirements. This specification
should be as consistent as possible because it allows estimating in a suitable manner the effort required to
obtain the final product. REP is complex in itself, but this complexity is greatly increased in big, distributed
and heterogeneous projects with multiple analyst teams and high integration between functional modules.
This paper presents an approach for the systematic conciliation of functional requirements in big projects
dealing with a web model-based approach and how this approach may be implemented in the context of the
NDT (Navigational Development Techniques): a web methodology. This paper also describes the empirical
