    Get PDF
Indonesia currently faces multidimensional threats, from small to large, concerning all aspects of the country's life, from ideology, politics, economics, social, culture, defense, and security. The nature of contemporary threat has a human security aspect rather than only state security. As such, a thorough effort is needed to deal with those Threats, Disruption, Obstacle, Challenge (TDOC). State defense can be the answer to such problems because state defense itself can be interpreted as an obligation and responsibility of citizens to maintain the existence and sovereignty of the state. State defense will be optimal if disseminated through formal education. In this case, the formal education in question is at the level of higher education. This paper proposes that state defense can be held at higher education level in the form of university compulsory course, and is organized under the name State Defense Education. This State Defense Education is not military education or conscription, but an education that is adjusted to the condition and nuance of higher education. Keywords: Threat, Human Security, State Defense, and State Defense Educatio

Globalization always lead to various kinds of influences, both negative nor positive, on the national character. In Indonesia, globalization has caused a significant degradation of national character which ended by the poor national character of the Indonesia’s young generation. In order to minimalize this impact, the Indonesian government has launched a program, named State Defense Awareness Programme (Program Pembinaan Kesadaran Bela Negara), in order to perform the mental revolution program and building the national character of Indonesia’s young generation, which has influenced by the negative effect of globalization. But until now, the Indonesian citizens are still not convinced that State Defense Awareness Programme can be an appropriate means in building the national character of Indonesian citizens. This condition was supported by the emergence of negative stigma related to State Defense Awareness Programme, which ultimately reduces the level of people participation in the program. This article was written by using a systematic approach and contribution analysis method. The results of this study are expected to be a consideration for the Indonesian government and citizens in implementing and joining this program. A comprehensive and integrated implementation of this program will produce citizens or state defense cadres who has highly character of nationalism, patriotism, solidarity, skill, collaboration, discipline, leadership and so on, especially for Indonesians who are born and grow up on border areas or foreign country and have experienced a significant shift of state defense awareness. Unique Challenges in State Defense Force Chaplaincy

    Get PDF
As the impact and effectiveness of traditional ministry wanes in this current culture, the influence of chaplaincy is expanding and making new inroads into numerous fields, including business, sports, health care, and the military. Chaplaincy’s commitment to pluralism and emphasis on spirituality instead of denominationalism makes it the perfect vehicle for ministry to this seemingly secular population still searching for meaning, purpose, and connection. These chaplains must be well trained for these serious moments in time and the lives of individuals. State Defense Forces are the nation’s least-known uniformed service and, therefore, lack the resources and funding of other services in many ways. This lack is evident in the training of their Chaplain Corps. This research thesis examines this problem by setting these forces in their historical and military context, revealing their strategic role as state force multipliers. These forces need equipped and mission ready Soldiers, which means they also need a trained and equipped Chaplain Corps. The focus of this work is to suggest a viable plan to create a training program for these chaplains that mitigates the hindering problems of a lack of training time and training curriculum
