The Dafny Integrated Development Environment
In recent years, program verifiers and interactive theorem provers have
become more powerful and more suitable for verifying large programs or proofs.
This has demonstrated the need for improving the user experience of these tools
to increase productivity and to make them more accessible to non-experts. This
paper presents an integrated development environment for Dafny-a programming
language, verifier, and proof assistant-that addresses issues present in most
state-of-the-art verifiers: low responsiveness and lack of support for
understanding non-obvious verification failures. The paper demonstrates several
new features that move the state-of-the-art closer towards a verification
environment that can provide verification feedback as the user types and can
present more helpful information about the program or failed verifications in a
demand-driven and unobtrusive way.Comment: In Proceedings F-IDE 2014, arXiv:1404.578
Bidirectional Heuristic Search Reconsidered
The assessment of bidirectional heuristic search has been incorrect since it
was first published more than a quarter of a century ago. For quite a long
time, this search strategy did not achieve the expected results, and there was
a major misunderstanding about the reasons behind it. Although there is still
wide-spread belief that bidirectional heuristic search is afflicted by the
problem of search frontiers passing each other, we demonstrate that this
conjecture is wrong. Based on this finding, we present both a new generic
approach to bidirectional heuristic search and a new approach to dynamically
improving heuristic values that is feasible in bidirectional search only. These
approaches are put into perspective with both the traditional and more recently
proposed approaches in order to facilitate a better overall understanding.
Empirical results of experiments with our new approaches show that
bidirectional heuristic search can be performed very efficiently and also with
limited memory. These results suggest that bidirectional heuristic search
appears to be better for solving certain difficult problems than corresponding
unidirectional search. This provides some evidence for the usefulness of a
search strategy that was long neglected. In summary, we show that bidirectional
heuristic search is viable and consequently propose that it be reconsidered.Comment: See http://www.jair.org/ for any accompanying file
Exploring a New Paradigm for Accelerators and Large Experimental Apparatus Control Systems
International audienceThe integration of web technologies and web services has been, in the recent years, one of the major trends in upgrading and developing control systems for accelerators and large experimental apparatuses. Usually, web technologies have been introduced to complement the control systems with smart add-ons and user friendly services or, for instance, to safely allow access to the control system to users from remote sites. In spite of this still narrow spectrum of employment, some software technologies developed for high performance web services, although originally intended and optimized for these particular applications, deserve some features that would allow their deeper integration in a control system and, eventually, use them to develop some of the control system's core components. In this paper we present the conclusion of the preliminary investigations of a new paradigm for an accelerator control system and associated machine data acquisition system (DAQ), based on a synergic combination of network distributed cache memory and a non-relational key/value database. We investigated these technologies with particular interest on performances, namely speed of data storage and retrieve for the network memory, data throughput and queries execution time for the database and, especially, how much this performances can benefit from their inherent scalability. The work has been developed in a collaboration between INFN-LNF and INFN-Roma Tor Vergata
Achieving Ultra-Low Latency in 5G Millimeter Wave Cellular Networks
The IMT 2020 requirements of 20 Gbps peak data rate and 1 millisecond latency
present significant engineering challenges for the design of 5G cellular
systems. Use of the millimeter wave (mmWave) bands above 10 GHz --- where vast
quantities of spectrum are available --- is a promising 5G candidate that may
be able to rise to the occasion.
However, while the mmWave bands can support massive peak data rates,
delivering these data rates on end-to-end service while maintaining reliability
and ultra-low latency performance will require rethinking all layers of the
protocol stack. This papers surveys some of the challenges and possible
solutions for delivering end-to-end, reliable, ultra-low latency services in
mmWave cellular systems in terms of the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer,
congestion control and core network architecture
Recent advances in connected vehicles via information-centric networking
V2X communication technology allows vehicles to communicate with each other, infrastructures as well as other parties. It is considered as a vital role in realizing future Intelligent Transport System (ITS). On one hand V2X is facing various expectations that requested by different features of applications, On the other hand, V2X has to overcome problems caused by the natures of high mobile vehicle environment. ICN proposed as the a substitution for future Internet rely on its naming design is likely to associate with V2X well in contrast to convention TCP/IP solution. This paper viewed recent relevant literatures from which unaddressed problems are identified with discussion of possible solutions. From this work, we are positioning our future efforts to fulfil such gaps
HVSTO: Efficient Privacy Preserving Hybrid Storage in Cloud Data Center
In cloud data center, shared storage with good management is a main structure
used for the storage of virtual machines (VM). In this paper, we proposed
Hybrid VM storage (HVSTO), a privacy preserving shared storage system designed
for the virtual machine storage in large-scale cloud data center. Unlike
traditional shared storage, HVSTO adopts a distributed structure to preserve
privacy of virtual machines, which are a threat in traditional centralized
structure. To improve the performance of I/O latency in this distributed
structure, we use a hybrid system to combine solid state disk and distributed
storage. From the evaluation of our demonstration system, HVSTO provides a
scalable and sufficient throughput for the platform as a service
infrastructure.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, in proceeding of The Second International
