Brief article describing SPEIR (pronounced "speer"): "Scottish Portals for Education, Information and Research". SPEIR is intended to develop an environment to underpin Scottish portals, creating the basis for: "a coherent virtual learning, information and research landscape for all Scottish citizens, collaboratively built and maintained via an agreed country-wide, standards-based, globally interoperable, co-operative infrastructure"

Securing the Internet of Things Infrastructure - Standards and Techniques

    Get PDF
The Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure is a conglomerate of electronic devices interconnected through the Internet, with the purpose of providing prompt and effective service to end-users. Applications running on an IoT infrastructure generally handle sensitive information such as a patient’s healthcare record, the position of a logistic vehicle, or the temperature readings obtained through wireless sensor nodes deployed in a bushland. The protection of such information from unlawful disclosure, tampering or modification, as well as the unscathed presence of IoT devices, in adversarial environments, is of prime concern. In this paper, a descriptive analysis of the security of standards and technologies for protecting the IoT communication channel from adversarial threats is provided. In addition, two paradigms for securing the IoT infrastructure, namely, common key based and paired key based, are proposed

Topic Map Generation Using Text Mining

    Get PDF
Starting from text corpus analysis with linguistic and statistical analysis algorithms, an infrastructure for text mining is described which uses collocation analysis as a central tool. This text mining method may be applied to different domains as well as languages. Some examples taken form large reference databases motivate the applicability to knowledge management using declarative standards of information structuring and description. The ISO/IEC Topic Map standard is introduced as a candidate for rich metadata description of information resources and it is shown how text mining can be used for automatic topic map generation

Service Orientation and the Smart Grid state and trends

    Get PDF
The energy market is undergoing major changes, the most notable of which is the transition from a hierarchical closed system toward a more open one highly based on a “smart” information-rich infrastructure. This transition calls for new information and communication technologies infrastructures and standards to support it. In this paper, we review the current state of affairs and the actual technologies with respect to such transition. Additionally, we highlight the contact points between the needs of the future grid and the advantages brought by service-oriented architectures.

Outsourcing and acquisition models comparison related to IT supplier selection decision analysis

    Get PDF
This paper presents a comparison of acquisition models related to decision analysis of IT supplier selection. The main standards are: Capability Maturity Model Integration for Acquisition (CMMI-ACQ), ISO / IEC 12207 Information Technology / Software Life Cycle Processes, IEEE 1062 Recommended Practice for Software Acquisition, the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guide. The objective of this paper is to compare the previous models to find the advantages and disadvantages of them for the future development of a decision model for IT supplier selection

Spatial Information System in the Context of Developing Spatial Data Infrastructure

    Get PDF
This study focuses on the spatial information system in the context of developing spatial data infrastructure, developing spatial data infrastructure in the context of this study is  a spatial data infrastructure whose operational capacity does not satisfy the standards befitting of a functional or operational spatial data infrastructure. The researcher assumes spatial information system as the sum of the spatial data and spatial information obtained from a geographic information system manipulation, synthesized to give spatial information system useful for information exchange and sharing in spatial data infrastructure. Qualitative review of relevant texts and web information were used for the subjective analysis of the information obtained. The result obtained revealed a glaring gap difference in the understanding, performance and readiness of spatial information among the three geospatial communities analyzed, indicative of the context in which spatial information is held for spatial data infrastructure performance. An attempt was made to proffer requirements necessary for spatial data infrastructure. Keywords: Spatial Information System, Developing SDI, Functional SDI, SDI Complianc

Information that is very fast and precise is the main need of the people in North Bengkulu. This information is used by people in North Bengkulu Region to find out about events or incidents in Bengkulu Utara Regency, Bengkulu Province and even in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the management of the media center in the North Bengkulu Regency Communication and Information Agency and the obstacles faced in managing the media center. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Aspects in this research are the minimum standards for media center facilities and infrastructure, minimum standards for human resources for media center management, media center management activities and the facilities used by the media center in disseminating information. The results showed that overall the implementation of media center management in the North Bengkulu Regency Communication and Information Agency still had many obstacles, including minimal facilities and infrastructure, limited human resources, media center management that had not yet referred to general guidelines, and the media. the socialization used was inadequate. The most urgent aspects for improvement are the minimum standards for media center facilities and infrastructure, the facilities used for disseminating information, the minimum standards for human resources for media center management and media center management activities. This research suggests expanding the media center room so that media center management staff work more freely and comfortably, and the addition of hardware and software such as computers, printers, cameras and camcorder

Analisis Implementasi Standar Nasional Perpustakaan Sekolah Menengah Atas/Madrasah Aliyah (SNP 12:2017)

This study aims to find out how SNP 12:2017 is implemented in the SMAN 6 Pandeglang Library. This type of research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques in this study are observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation. The results of this study are as follows: first, SNP 12:2017 has seven standards, namely collection standards, infrastructure standards, service standards, library staff standards, implementation standards, management standards, and information technology standards. For librarians in the SMAN 6 Pandeglang library who have the academic competence of library education graduates, the SMAN 6 Pandeglang library only has one room for various library areas. There is a lack of administrators and librarians in the SMAN 6 Pandeglang library who have competence in the field of information technology. Third, the factors that support the implementation of SNP 12:2017 are complete facilities and infrastructure, sufficient time for service activities, and additions to collections carried out every year. Fourth, the process and level of achievement of SNP 12:2017 are not fully implemented and in accordance with SNP 12:2017. There are several aspects that have started to reach SNP 12:2017, including service aspects, implementation aspects, management aspects, and several other aspects. As well, there are several aspects that have not reached SNP 12:2017, including aspects of collection, aspects of information and communication technology, aspects of facilities and infrastructure, and several other aspects

An Aggregated Information Technology Checklist for Operational Risk Management

    Get PDF
This study addresses the issue of the Information Technology (IT) Governance frameworks and standards that respond to different levels of operational risks, especially those caused by the information systems and technology infrastructure. A requirement analysis regarding Basel II is conducted, a gap analysis between the Information Control Models (ICMs) is performed, and the aggregated IT checklist for Operational Risk Management (ORM) is proposed by mapping the control objectives in ICMs to the operational risk categories described in Basel II as loss event types. The validity and reliability of the study is based on the focus group assessment of the mappingsBasel II, Operational Risk Management, Information Control Model, Information Technology Governance.
