Simple Primary Colour Editing for Consumer Product Images

    Get PDF
We present a simple primary colour editing method for consumer product images. We show that by using colour correction and colour blending, we can automate the pain-staking colour editing task and save time for consumer colour preference researchers. To improve the colour harmony between the primary colour and its complementary colours, our algorithm also tunes the other colours in the image. A preliminary experiment has shown some promising results compared with a state-of-the-art method and human editing

    Construction-Ready Digital Terrain Models

Since 2009, Kentucky has made its 3D design data available as a supplemental reference to bidders through the project delivery process. This research discusses methods for ensuring electronic engineering data (EED) — and specifically the proposed digital terrain model (DTM) — support modern construction management methods at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). Researchers performed a literature review, surveyed KYTC construction and design staff, engaged with Cabinet staff and industry members to understand the current state of practice, and evaluated quality- related attributes of the EED through case studies. The report presents a set of targeted recommendations for improving KYTC processes of highway design review, training and guidance for Cabinet staff, data sharing and management, professional service contract negotiations, and facilitated communication between KYTC and its industry partners

Shadows of Saturn’s ring moons in the dusty E-ring

Abstract. Moons orbiting within Saturn’s diffuse E-Ring cause cylindrical shadows to appear inside the ring at high phase angles when the moons obscure sunlight from areas behind them. These shadows can be observed in multiple images taken on the Cassini-Huygens mission at high phase angles when the ring material is scattering sunlight and dust in the area obstructed by the moon does not scatter sunlight creating a shadow. On this preliminary analysis we focus on the shadows of Enceladus and Tethys and show that this method is viable for inferring local ring properties. Information about the size distribution and light scattering properties of the E-Ring particles can theoretically be inferred from measurements. A preliminary analysis is presented with the goal of investigating whether enough data is present and can meaningful results be produced. A Python program was developed to analyze and extract data from the Cassini-Huygens mission images. This Program is used to analyze shadows in images of the moons Enceladus and Tethys taken with different filters and wavelengths at high phase angles

In this master thesis, we propose a scheduling reordering for heterogeneous processors based on a hysteresis detector to give some fairness and speedup to the memory request threads taking advantage of the bank level parallelism at the memory system organization

    Self fish

Without the pursuit of love and happiness, breath is simply the sand of an hourglass pouring away to our time of passing. Love is the reason we are alive. To spend even a moment in misery is a moment wasted. Love is the goal of humanity. Everyone has or will experience love in its many forms over the course of a lifetime. Many, out of ignorance, habit, or sheer desperation, will fall in love with the wrong person. Most of us have or will have that one failed relationship, the one we reflect on as the relationship that taught us the most about who we are, what makes us happy, and what we seek or try to avoid in a mate. Through failure we learn what we can improve about ourselves. We learn that there are no perfect people and to try to make them that way is a losing battle, a never-ending, fruitless effort. Regardless, we will always try. Our happiness is dependent upon our honesty in defining ourselves. That is, if you are not happy, you cannot make yourself so simply by ignoring your own needs and catering to the needs of others. Additionally, you cannot make others happy by projecting your happiness upon them. When we are happy, we are being honest, even if only with ourselves. Unhappiness is wanting. If our needs are not being met, we seek to fulfill them, regardless of the consequences and often at the expense of our relationships and those we care about. In Self Fish, the hero has all that he needs, all except someone to share his life with. He is in search of a companion that he can love and who will love him in return. He is wary, as anyone would be, of welcoming someone into his world. Eventually He finds what he thinks will be a loyal, low-maintenance companion: the fish. We all know that in real life, fish are not a pet that one would typically consider affectionate. You can\u27t touch or pet a fish, and fish do not show loyalty or attachment. They can\u27t coexist in our environment without a substantial investment in special equipment. And, although fish owners insist on naming and assigning personality traits to their beloved aquatic friends, fish have but one facial expression, and are not capable of even simulating emotion. We are nothing to fish but a potential predators or potential prey. The fish character in my film is a metaphor for just this sort of emotional detachment. My fish character does emote; it shows significant discomfort, but does not reciprocate the love the hero has for the fish. It only admires its own reflection. Try as he might to please the fish, the hero cannot convince the fish to love him in return. His love turns to frustration, then to desperation, to resentment, and eventually to hatred. In the end he is helplessly trapped in an unreciprocated relationship where all amenities favor the fish. I have played the role of the main character depicted in my film many times in my life, but, more often than not, I have played the role of the fish. To those for whom I have been a fish, I sincerely apologize for my self-fishness. Please consider this story as an acknowledgement of guilt and an attempt to convey my regret for having treated you so cruelly. It seems one needs to be a fish before he can become a man. One needs to be a man before he can realize he has been a fish

Linear scheduling of pipeline construction projects with varying production rates

    Get PDF
Scope and Method of Study: The purpose of this research was to expand the capabilities of linear scheduling to account for varying production rates in pipeline construction when and where they occur. This new linear scheduling model, Linear Scheduling Model with Varying Production Rates (LSM VPR) had two objectives. The first of these objectives was to outline a framework to apply changes in production rates when and where they occur along the horizontal alignment of the project. The second objective was to illustrate the difficulty or ease of construction through the time-location chart.Findings and Conclusions: This research showed that the changes in production rates due to time and location can be modeled for use in predicting future construction projects. The model created for this purpose is the Linear Scheduling Model with Varying Production Rates. Using LSM VPR allows the scheduler to develop schedule durations based on minimal project information. The model also allows the scheduler to analyze the impact of various routes or start dates for construction and the corresponding impact on the schedule. The graphical format allows the construction team to visualize the obstacles in the project when and where they occur due to a new feature called the Activity Performance Index (API). This index is used to shade the linear scheduling chart by time and location with the variation in color indicating the variance in predicted production rate from the desired production rate
