Reciprocal Learning: An Intergenerational Computer Training Model for Young Adults Working with Elders Follow-Up Evaluation: Summer 2006 - Report Series # 15
The goal of this evaluation, conducted in the summer of 2006, was to capture the experiences of young adults who participated as ‘senior tech tutors’ for elders in the computer training program. The training was piloted in the Internet Café at the Sheridan Elder Research Centre (SERC) in the fall of 2005. Twelve young adults participated in the training to become ‘senior tech tutors. An additional three participated in tutoring without having attended the training but were provided with instructional hand-outs. These three tech tutors had prior education and experience in the field of gerontology. Feedback interviews were conducted over the telephone. These interviews took place over an eight-week period. The relationships that tech tutors formed with their ‘student’ elders had an impact on tech tutors’ goals, their views about aging and their career aspirations
The challenge of career education
In the past, the collective experiences of graduates accessing the labour market
and retaining a job were fairly straightforward, but now they have given way to
individual, fragmented, and unpredictable career paths. The process of career
development should begin early in university studies, or even in high school, in
order to support our most educated citizens in finding their place and expression
in society through work. This paper seeks to contribute to an increased
understanding of the state of play of career development in students and
graduates of the Tourism degree program at the University of Macerata, Italy. It
reports empirical data gathered from them and explores ramifications of the
results for changes in pedagogy

Challenges Graduates Face When Trying to get Their First Job In Television Broadcasting
ABSTRACT
This study demonstrates the importance and best practices associated with the challenges graduates face when trying to find their first job in television broadcasting. It analyzes what the literature states on this subject and takes a closer look at what hiring experts in two designated market areas say on the matter. This study will provide insight for graduates as they transition from the classroom to the newsroom. Graduates of journalism programs are facing a unique set of challenges because of the transition taking place in newsrooms across the country from a traditional style of news reporting to a multimedia journalist style. The added circumstances of a recent recession, a down-sizing of the industry and rapidly changing technology are all issues that the study investigates. This study not only investigates the challenges facing students when trying to gain employment in broadcast television it also provides insight as to how to successfully face those challenges
