Abelian Flavour Symmetries in Supersymmetric Models

We propose a theory of flavour based on abelian horizontal gauge symmetries and modular invariances. We construct explicit supergravity models where the scale of the horizontal U(1)U(1) symmetry breaking is fixed by the Green-Schwarz mechanism for anomaly cancellation. The supersymmetric spectrum is obtained in terms of the U(1)U(1) charges which are determined by the Yukawa matrices.Comment: 30 pages, LaTeX, no figure

Exactly Solvable (0,2) Supersymmetric String Vacua With GUT Gauge Groups

    Get PDF
We present a construction of modular invariant partition functions for heterotic (0,2) supersymmetric classical string vacua. This generalization of Gepner's construction yields GUT gauge groups E_6, SO(10), SU(5) and SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1)^r, respectively. By calculating the massless spectrum of some of these models we find strong indications that they correspond to (0,2) string vacua discussed recently in the context of CYM/LG phases.Comment: PlainTeX, 23 pages, no figures, final version to appear in Nucl. More about discrete symmetries in compactified string theories

We discuss discrete symmetries in several string compactification schemes. The same constraints on the light spectra as for Gepner models \cite{rosss} are found in various cases for non-RR symmetries. The analogous constraints for RR symmetries are also established. Therefore it seems natural to conjecture that they always apply.Comment: 10 pages, OUTP-93-15

Exotic Top Partners and Little Higgs

    Get PDF
Little Higgs models often give rise to top partners beyond the minimal ones necessary for the cancellation of quadratic divergences. We review how this occurs and discuss the phenomenology of these exotic states. We emphasize the possible importance of new pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons in top partner decays. Indeed, cascade decays of exotic top partners may be the best way to discover these new bosons. We illustrate these points with a new Little Higgs construction based on an SO(10)/SO(5)^2 coset structure, which fills a gap in the model building literature. These observations motivate new search strategies for top partners at the LHC, including for final states with b-jets and a large multiplicity of electroweak bosons.Comment: 27 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables; v3: JHEP revision -- updated to include discussion of naturalness and section 2.1 expande
