Local renormalization method for random systems
In this paper, we introduce a real-space renormalization transformation for
random spin systems on 2D lattices. The general method is formulated for random
systems and results from merging two well known real space renormalization
techniques, namely the strong disorder renormalization technique (SDRT) and the
contractor renormalization (CORE). We analyze the performance of the method on

Social Information Processing in Social News Aggregation
The rise of the social media sites, such as blogs, wikis, Digg and Flickr
among others, underscores the transformation of the Web to a participatory
medium in which users are collaboratively creating, evaluating and distributing
information. The innovations introduced by social media has lead to a new
paradigm for interacting with information, what we call 'social information
processing'. In this paper, we study how social news aggregator Digg exploits
social information processing to solve the problems of document recommendation
and rating. First, we show, by tracking stories over time, that social networks
play an important role in document recommendation. The second contribution of
this paper consists of two mathematical models. The first model describes how
collaborative rating and promotion of stories emerges from the independent
decisions made by many users. The second model describes how a user's
influence, the number of promoted stories and the user's social network,
changes in time. We find qualitative agreement between predictions of the model

Today’s key challenge for firm growth relies in the integration of digital technologies and their use in new business models. Thus, firms increasingly engage in a digital transformation and in digitalizing their business model. Firms can apply digital technologies for improved or novel internal and external processes and integrate them in new business models. The digital transformation itself demands diverse knowledge from diverse origins in the firm. We examine the key concepts related to business model digitalization. We develop a conceptual matrix for portfolio considerations of firm business model digitalization. We introduce the seven contributions in this special issue on knowledge and innovation related to business and offer some recommendations for future research on the new working conditions and digital identities of firms

This article has been published as the introduction of the special issue in Japan Forum (“Japanese Political Economy Revisited: Abenomics and Institutional Change”) and as an introduction to the book (Japanese Political Economy Revisited: Abenomics and Institutional Change, Routledge)This introductory article to the special issue on “Japanese Political Economy Revisited: Diverse Corporate Change, Institutional Transformation, and Abenomics” starts with a short summaryof the changing perceptions of Japan’s political economy from its meteoric rise as worldwide leading model in the 1970s and 1980s to its demotiontoa problem and reform case since the later 1990s. Based on this overview, it identifies some striking issue and open questions in this conventional view of Japan’s political economy as problem and the high expectations on Abenomics as Japan’s current economic reform programme. Then we discuss the articles of the special issue and their new contributionsto a better understanding of the developments at the corporate level as well as institutional change and economic reforms at the macro level in the last two decades. Finally, this introductory article ends with a short outlineof a new research programme and four central research questions about the Japanese political economy

Interaction of strongly correlated electrons and acoustical phonons
We investigate the interaction of correlated electrons with acoustical
phonons using the extended Hubbard-Holstein model in which both, the
electron-phonon interaction and the on-site Coulomb repulsion are considered to
be strong. The Lang-Firsov canonical transformation allows to obtain mobile
polarons for which a new diagram technique and generalized Wick's theorem is
used. This allows to handle the Coulomb repulsion between the electrons emerged
into a sea of phonon fields (\textit{phonon clouds}). The physics of emission
and absorption of the collective phonon-field mode by the polarons is discussed
in detail. Moreover, we have investigated the different behavior of optical and
acoustical phonon clouds when propagating through the lattice. In the
strong-coupling limit of the electron-phonon interaction, and in the normal as
well as in the superconducting phase, chronological thermodynamical averages of
products of acoustical phonon-cloud operators can be expressed by one-cloud
operator averages. While the normal one-cloud propagator has the form of a
Lorentzian, the anomalous one is of Gaussian form and considerably smaller.
Therefore, the anomalous electron Green's functions can be considered to be
more important than corresponding polarons functions, i.e., pairing of
electrons without phonon-clouds is easier to achieve than pairing of polarons
