A New Adaptive OMP-MAP Algorithm-based Iterative Sparse Channel Estimation for OFDM Underwater Communication
A sparse channel estimation approach based on doubly spread underwater acoustic (UWA) channels is widely used todetect coherent acoustic orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. A new time-domain channelestimation (CE) technique for OFDM based UWA communication with Rician fading is used to exploit the channel sparsity.First, to improve the estimation accuracy in high noise conditions, we have exploited the channel sparsity to generate aclosed-form equation for the termination condition. Then, in low-level noise instances, the additional criterion to balanceestimation accuracy and computing costs has been established. By incorporating these two requirements within theorthogonal-matching-pursuit (OMP) structure, an adaptive-OMP (AOMP) algorithm has been proposed. The AOMP andmaximum a posteriori probability (MAP) techniques are combined to provide a computationally efficient, and a newAOMP-MAP scheme for estimating the sparse complex channel path gain has been proposed. Further, The minimumvariance unbiased estimator is used to improve the proposed CE technique. Exploiting the experimental channel data,computer simulations reveal that the proposed CE technique obtains the outstanding outcomes
Adaptive Fuzzy Game-based Energy Efficient Localization in 3D Underwater Sensor Networks
Numerous applications in 3D underwater sensor networks (UWSNs), such as pollution detection, disaster prevention, animal monitoring, navigation assistance, and submarines tracking, heavily rely on accurate localization techniques. However, due to the limited batteries of sensor nodes and the di!culty for energy harvesting in UWSNs, it is challenging to localize sensor nodes successfully within a short sensor node lifetime in an unspeci"ed underwater environment. Therefore, we propose the Adaptive Energy-E!cient Localization Algorithm (Adaptive EELA) to enable energy-e!cient node localization while adapting to the dynamic environment changes. Adaptive EELA takes a fuzzy game-theoretic approach, whereby Stackelberg game is used to model the interactions among sensor and anchor nodes in UWSNs and employs the adaptive neuro-fuzzy method to set the appropriate utility functions. We prove that a socially optimal StackelbergâNash Equilibrium is achieved in Adaptive EELA. Through extensive numerical simulations under various environmental scenarios, the evaluation results show that our proposed algorithm accomplishes a signi"cant energy reduction, e.g., 66% lower compared to baselines, while achieving a desired performance level in terms of localization coverage, error, and delay
Robust Channel Estimation in Multiuser Downlink 5G Systems Under Channel Uncertainties
In wireless communication, the performance of the network highly relies on the accuracy of channel state information (CSI). On the other hand, the channel statistics are usually unknown, and the measurement information is lost due to the fading phenomenon. Therefore, we propose a channel estimation approach for downlink communication under channel uncertainty. We apply the Tobit Kalman filter (TKF) method to estimate the hidden state vectors of wireless channels. To minimize the maximum estimation error, a robust minimax minimum estimation error (MSE) estimation approach is developed while the QoS requirements of wireless users is taken into account. We then formulate the minimax problem as a non-cooperative game to find an optimal filter and adjust the best behavior for the worst-case channel uncertainty. We also investigate a scenario in which the actual operating point is not exactly known under model uncertainty. Finally, we investigate the existence and characterization of a saddle point as the solution of the game. Theoretical analysis verifies that our work is robust against the uncertainty of the channel statistics and able to track the true values of the channel states. Additionally, simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the model in terms of MSE value over related techniques

Advanced signal processing solutions for ATR and spectrum sharing in distributed radar systems
Previously held under moratorium from 11 September 2017 until 16 February 2022This Thesis presents advanced signal processing solutions for Automatic
Target Recognition (ATR) operations and for spectrum sharing in distributed radar systems.
Two Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) ATR algorithms are described for
full- and single-polarimetric images, and tested on the GOTCHA and the
MSTAR datasets. The first one exploits the Krogager polarimetric decomposition in order to enhance peculiar scattering mechanisms from manmade targets, used in combination with the pseudo-Zernike image moments. The second algorithm employs the Krawtchouk image moments,
that, being discrete defined, provide better representations of targetsâ details. The proposed image moments based framework can be extended to
the availability of several images from multiple sensors through the implementation of a simple fusion rule.
A model-based micro-Doppler algorithm is developed for the identification of helicopters. The approach relies on the proposed sparse representation of the signal scattered from the helicopterâs rotor and received by
the radar. Such a sparse representation is obtained through the application of a greedy sparse recovery framework, with the goal of estimating
the number, the length and the rotation speed of the blades, parameters
that are peculiar for each helicopterâs model. The algorithm is extended to
deal with the identification of multiple helicopters flying in formation that
cannot be resolved in another domain. Moreover, a fusion rule is presented
to integrate the results of the identification performed from several sensors
in a distributed radar system. Tests performed both on simulated signals
and on real signals acquired from a scale model of a helicopter, confirm
the validity of the algorithm.
Finally, a waveform design framework for joint radar-communication systems is presented. The waveform is composed by quasi-orthogonal chirp
sub-carriers generated through the Fractional Fourier Transform (FrFT),
with the aim of preserving the radar performance of a typical Linear Frequency Modulated (LFM) pulse while embedding data to be sent to a
cooperative system. Techniques aimed at optimise the design parameters and mitigate the Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI) caused by the quasiorthogonality of the chirp sub-carriers are also described. The FrFT based
waveform is extensively tested and compared with Orthogonal Frequency
Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and LFM waveforms, in order to assess
