This is the post print version of the article. The official published version can be obtained from the link below - Copyright 2007 Elsevier LtdThis Letter is concerned with the analysis problem of exponential stability for a class of discrete-time recurrent neural networks (DRNNs) with time delays. The delay is of the time-varying nature, and the activation functions are assumed to be neither differentiable nor strict monotonic. Furthermore, the description of the activation functions is more general than the recently commonly used Lipschitz conditions. Under such mild conditions, we first prove the existence of the equilibrium point. Then, by employing a Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, a unified linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach is developed to establish sufficient conditions for the DRNNs to be globally exponentially stable. It is shown that the delayed DRNNs are globally exponentially stable if a certain LMI is solvable, where the feasibility of such an LMI can be easily checked by using the numerically efficient Matlab LMI Toolbox. A simulation example is presented to show the usefulness of the derived LMI-based stability condition. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Nuffield Foundation of the UK under Grant NAL/00630/G, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Education Committee of China (05KJB110154), the NSF of Jiangsu Province of China (BK2006064), and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (10471119)

Exponential stability of a class of boundary control systems

We study a class of partial differential equations (with variable coefficients) on a one dimensional spatial domain with control and observation at the boundary. For this class of systems we provide simple tools to check exponential stability. This class is general enough to include models of flexible structures, traveling waves, heat exchangers, and bioreactors among others. The result is based on the use of a generating function (the energy for physical systems) and an inequality condition at the boundary. Furthermore, based on the port Hamiltonian approach, we give a constructive method to reduce this inequality to a simple matrix inequality

On the asymptotic behavior of highly nonlinear hybrid stochastic delay differential equations

In this paper, under a local Lipschitz condition and a monotonicity condition, the problems on the existence and uniqueness theorem as well as the almost surely asymptotic behavior for the global solution of highly nonlinear stochastic differential equations with time-varying delay and Markovian switching are discussed by using the Lyapunov function and some stochastic analysis techniques. Two integral lemmas are firstly established to overcome the difficulty stemming from the coexistence of the stochastic perturbation and the time-varying delay. Then, without any redundant restrictive condition on the time-varying delay, by utilizing the integral inequality, the exponential stability in pth(p ≥ 1)-moment for such equations is investigated. By employing the nonnegative semi-martingale convergence theorem, the almost sure exponential stability is analyzed. Finally, two examples are given to show the usefulness of the results obtained.National Natural Science Foundation of ChinaNatural Science Foundation of Jiangxi Province of ChinaFoundation of Jiangxi Provincial Educations of ChinaMinisterio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO).
