Some Remarks on Steiner Systems
The main purpose of this paper is to introduce Steiner systems obtained from the finite classical generalized hexagons of order q. We show that we can take the blocks of the Steiner systems amongst the lines and the traces of the hexagon, and we prove some facts about the automorphism groups. Also, we make a remark concerning the geometric construction of a known class (KW) of Steiner systems and we deduce some properties of the automorphism group
Perfect countably infinite Steiner triple systems
We use a free construction to prove the existence of perfect Steiner triple systems on a countably infinite point set. We use a specific countably infinite family of partial Steiner triple systems to start the construction, thus yielding 2ℵ0 non-isomorphic perfect systems
On the order three Brauer classes for cubic surfaces
We describe a method to compute the Brauer-Manin obstruction for smooth cubic
surfaces over \bbQ such that \Br(S)/\Br(\bbQ) is a 3-group. Our approach is
to associate a Brauer class with every ordered triplet of Galois invariant
pairs of Steiner trihedra. We show that all order three Brauer classes may be
obtained in this way. To show the effect of the obstruction, we give explicit
examples.Comment: Extended introduction, discussion of the example of Cassels and Gu
Optimal Flood Control
A mathematical model for optimal control of the water levels in a chain of
reservoirs is studied. Some remarks regarding sensitivity with respect to the time horizon, terminal cost and forecast of inflow are made
A new proof of the Vorono\"i summation formula
We present a short alternative proof of the Vorono\"i summation formula which
plays an important role in Dirichlet's divisor problem and has recently found
an application in physics as a trace formula for a Schr\"odinger operator on a
non-compact quantum graph \mathfrak{G} [S. Egger n\'e Endres and F. Steiner, J.
Phys. A: Math. Theor. 44 (2011) 185202 (44pp)]. As a byproduct we give a new
proof of a non-trivial identity for a particular Lambert series which involves
the divisor function d(n) and is identical with the trace of the Euclidean wave
group of the Laplacian on the infinite graph \mathfrak{G}.Comment: Enlarged version of the published article J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 44

Resolving sets for Johnson and Kneser graphs
A set of vertices in a graph is a {\em resolving set} for if, for
any two vertices , there exists such that the distances . In this paper, we consider the Johnson graphs and Kneser
graphs , and obtain various constructions of resolving sets for these
graphs. As well as general constructions, we show that various interesting
combinatorial objects can be used to obtain resolving sets in these graphs,
including (for Johnson graphs) projective planes and symmetric designs, as well
as (for Kneser graphs) partial geometries, Hadamard matrices, Steiner systems
and toroidal grids.Comment: 23 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl
