Intuitionistic logic and Muchnik degrees
We prove that there is a factor of the Muchnik lattice that captures intuitionistic propositional logic. This complements a now classic result of Skvortsova for the Medvedev lattice
Weihrauch goes Brouwerian
We prove that the Weihrauch lattice can be transformed into a Brouwer algebra
by the consecutive application of two closure operators in the appropriate
order: first completion and then parallelization. The closure operator of
completion is a new closure operator that we introduce. It transforms any
problem into a total problem on the completion of the respective types, where
we allow any value outside of the original domain of the problem. This closure
operator is of interest by itself, as it generates a total version of Weihrauch
reducibility that is defined like the usual version of Weihrauch reducibility,
but in terms of total realizers. From a logical perspective completion can be
seen as a way to make problems independent of their premises. Alongside with
the completion operator and total Weihrauch reducibility we need to study
precomplete representations that are required to describe these concepts. In
order to show that the parallelized total Weihrauch lattice forms a Brouwer
algebra, we introduce a new multiplicative version of an implication. While the
parallelized total Weihrauch lattice forms a Brouwer algebra with this
implication, the total Weihrauch lattice fails to be a model of intuitionistic
linear logic in two different ways. In order to pinpoint the algebraic reasons
for this failure, we introduce the concept of a Weihrauch algebra that allows
us to formulate the failure in precise and neat terms. Finally, we show that
the Medvedev Brouwer algebra can be embedded into our Brouwer algebra, which
also implies that the theory of our Brouwer algebra is Jankov logic.Comment: 36 page
Proof Theory and Ordered Groups
Ordering theorems, characterizing when partial orders of a group extend to
total orders, are used to generate hypersequent calculi for varieties of
lattice-ordered groups (l-groups). These calculi are then used to provide new
proofs of theorems arising in the theory of ordered groups. More precisely: an
analytic calculus for abelian l-groups is generated using an ordering theorem
for abelian groups; a calculus is generated for l-groups and new decidability
proofs are obtained for the equational theory of this variety and extending
finite subsets of free groups to right orders; and a calculus for representable
l-groups is generated and a new proof is obtained that free groups are
orderable
Three-dimensional random Voronoi tessellations: From cubic crystal lattices to Poisson point processes
We perturb the SC, BCC, and FCC crystal structures with a spatial Gaussian noise whose adimensional strength is controlled by the parameter a, and analyze the topological and metrical properties of the resulting Voronoi Tessellations (VT). The topological properties of the VT of the SC and FCC crystals are unstable with respect to the introduction of noise, because the corresponding polyhedra are geometrically degenerate, whereas the tessellation of the BCC crystal is topologically stable even against noise of small but finite intensity. For weak noise, the mean area of the perturbed BCC and FCC crystals VT increases quadratically with a. In the case of perturbed SCC crystals, there is an optimal amount of noise that minimizes the mean area of the cells. Already for a moderate noise (a>0.5), the properties of the three perturbed VT are indistinguishable, and for intense noise (a>2), results converge to the Poisson-VT limit. Notably, 2-parameter gamma distributions are an excellent model for the empirical of of all considered properties. The VT of the perturbed BCC and FCC structures are local maxima for the isoperimetric quotient, which measures the degre of sphericity of the cells, among space filling VT. In the BCC case, this suggests a weaker form of the recentluy disproved Kelvin conjecture. Due to the fluctuations of the shape of the cells, anomalous scalings with exponents >3/2 is observed between the area and the volumes of the cells, and, except for the FCC case, also for a->0. In the Poisson-VT limit, the exponent is about 1.67. As the number of faces is positively correlated with the sphericity of the cells, the anomalous scaling is heavily reduced when we perform powerlaw fits separately on cells with a specific number of faces
Information completeness in Nelson algebras of rough sets induced by quasiorders
In this paper, we give an algebraic completeness theorem for constructive
logic with strong negation in terms of finite rough set-based Nelson algebras
determined by quasiorders. We show how for a quasiorder , its rough
set-based Nelson algebra can be obtained by applying the well-known
construction by Sendlewski. We prove that if the set of all -closed
elements, which may be viewed as the set of completely defined objects, is
cofinal, then the rough set-based Nelson algebra determined by a quasiorder
forms an effective lattice, that is, an algebraic model of the logic ,
which is characterised by a modal operator grasping the notion of "to be
classically valid". We present a necessary and sufficient condition under which
a Nelson algebra is isomorphic to a rough set-based effective lattice
determined by a quasiorder.Comment: 15 page
Groups of Divisibility
In this thesis, we examine a part of abstract algebra known as Groups of Divisibility. We construct these special groups from basic concepts. We begin with partially-ordered sets, then build our way into groups, rings, and even structures akin to rings of polynomials. In particular, we explore how elementary algebra evolves when an ordering is included with the operations. Our results follow the work done by Anderson and Feil, however we include more explicit proofs and constructions. Our primary results include proving that a group of divisibility can be provided with an order to make it a partially-ordered group; that every Bezout domain is a pseudo-Bezout domain; and that an integral domain is a pseudo-Bezout domain if and only if the partial order on its group of divisibility is a lattice
