Application of shape grammar theory to underground rail station design and passenger evacuation

    Get PDF
This paper outlines the development of a computer design environment that generates station ‘reference’ plans for analysis by designers at the project feasibility stage. The developed program uses the theoretical concept of shape grammar, based upon principles of recognition and replacement of a particular shape to enable the generation of station layouts. The developed novel shape grammar rules produce multiple plans of accurately sized infrastructure faster than by traditional means. A finite set of station infrastructure elements and a finite set of connection possibilities for them, directed by regulations and the logical processes of station usage, allows for increasingly complex composite shapes to be automatically produced, some of which are credible station layouts at ‘reference’ block plan level. The proposed method of generating shape grammar plans is aligned to London Underground standards, in particular to the Station Planning Standards and Guidelines 5th edition (SPSG5 2007) and the BS-7974 fire safety engineering process. Quantitative testing is via existing evacuation modelling software. The prototype system, named SGEvac, has both the scope and potential for redevelopment to any other country’s design legislation

Deep transfer learning application for automated ischemic classification in posterior fossa CT images

Abstract—Computed Tomography (CT) imaging is one of the conventional tools used to diagnose ischemic in Posterior Fossa (PF). Radiologist commonly diagnoses ischemic in PF through CT imaging manually. However, such a procedure could be strenuous and time consuming for large scale images, depending on the expertise and ischemic visibility. With the rapid development of computer technology, automatic image classification based on Machine Learning (ML) is widely been developed as a second opinion to the ischemic diagnosis. The practical performance of ML is challenged by the emergence of deep learning applications in healthcare. In this study, we evaluate the performance of deep transfer learning models of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN); VGG-16, GoogleNet and ResNet-50 to classify the normal and abnormal (ischemic) brain CT images of PF. This is the first study that intensively studies the application of deep transfer learning for automated ischemic classification in the posterior part of brain CT images. The experimental results show that ResNet-50 is capable to achieve the highest accuracy performance in comparison to other proposed models. Overall, this automatic classification provides a convenient and time-saving tool for improving medical diagnosis

Automated Verification of Design Patterns with LePUS3

Specification and [visual] modelling languages are expected to combine strong abstraction mechanisms with rigour, scalability, and parsimony. LePUS3 is a visual, object-oriented design description language axiomatized in a decidable subset of the first-order predicate logic. We demonstrate how LePUS3 is used to formally specify a structural design pattern and prove (‗verify‘) whether any JavaTM 1.4 program satisfies that specification. We also show how LePUS3 specifications (charts) are composed and how they are verified fully automatically in the Two-Tier Programming Toolkit

Due to inefficiencies of the business processes in small-mid size of bottled drinking water industries, it is necessary to improve them. The improvements are carried out in business processes of production, warehouse, delivery, marketing, and finance departments. The main causes of the inefficiencies are the inefficiencies of the business process itself and that the business processes of those departments were not integrated. This paper is concerned with designing information system to support for the integration of those departments. First, we mapped the business process of each department using flow diagram. Then analyze the inefficiencies of each department. Next, we redesign the business processes and standardize them. The next step is integrating the business processes by designing the information system. We design the information system modular. The modules are marketing module, production module, logistic module and finance module. Data Flow Diagram (DFD) is used to model the system. Relational database management system (RDBMS) is used to design the database. User interfaces are built to ease in using the program application. The outputs of the information system are reports and documents in monitor screen view and in printing. The validation showed that the information system designed can support the business process improvements. Keywords: business process improvement, integration, information system, small-mid size of bottled drinking water industr

The Effect of Configuration to Interaction Energy Between The Segments of Chitosan and Ascorbic Acid Molecule: Theoretical Study of Drug Release Control

    Get PDF
Polymer systems plays an important role in drug delivery, which can control the time release of the drug, reduce the rate of degradation of the drug, and can reduce the toxic properties of the drug. Chitosan is a polymer of N-acetyl glucosamine that is biocompatible, biodegradable, and have active groups that can be used as a drug carrier matrix to control the release rate of the drug in the human body. The related research has been conducted experimentally by applying chitosan as a matrix to control the release rate of ascorbic acid by in vitro in an aqueous medium. So that, this study aimed to describe the interactions that occur between segments of chitosan and ascorbic acid theoretically using ab initio computational methods. Software used is Gaussian03, while the level of theory and basis set calculations determined is HF-SCF / 6-31G (d, p). The results for the nine configuration interaction calculations indicate hydrogen bonds between ascorbic acid molecules and chitosan segment. The interaction energy obtained is different for each configuration. It can be used as a basis for explaining the gradual release of ascorbic acid molecule from chitosan matrix. Ascorbic acid molecules that bound to the matrix of chitosan with lower energy will be easier to release on the medium that used
