The Rapidly Flaring Afterglow of the Very Bright and Energetic GRB 070125
We report on multi-wavelength observations, ranging from the X-ray to radio
wave bands, of the IPN-localized gamma-ray burst GRB 070125. Spectroscopic
observations reveal the presence of absorption lines due to O I, Si II, and C
IV, implying a likely redshift of z = 1.547. The well-sampled light curves, in
particular from 0.5 to 4 days after the burst, suggest a jet break at 3.7 days,
corresponding to a jet opening angle of ~7.0 degrees, and implying an intrinsic
GRB energy in the 1 - 10,000 keV band of around E = (6.3 - 6.9)x 10^(51) erg
(based on the fluences measured by the gamma-ray detectors of the IPN network).
GRB 070125 is among the brightest afterglows observed to date. The spectral
energy distribution implies a host extinction of Av < 0.9 mag. Two
rebrightening episodes are observed, one with excellent time coverage, showing
an increase in flux of 56% in ~8000 seconds. The evolution of the afterglow
light curve is achromatic at all times. Late-time observations of the afterglow
do not show evidence for emission from an underlying host galaxy or supernova.
Any host galaxy would be subluminous, consistent with current GRB host-galaxy
samples. Evidence for strong Mg II absorption features is not found, which is
perhaps surprising in view of the relatively high redshift of this burst and

Studying the Lunar-Solar Wind Interaction with the SARA Experiment aboard the Indian Lunar Mission Chandrayaan-1
The first Indian lunar mission Chandrayaan-1 was launched on 22 October 2008.
The Sub-keV Atom Reflecting Analyzer (SARA) instrument onboard Chandrayaan-1
consists of an energetic neutral atom (ENA) imaging mass analyzer called CENA
(Chandrayaan-1 Energetic Neutrals Analyzer), and an ion-mass analyzer called
SWIM (Solar wind Monitor). CENA performed the first ever experiment to study
the solar wind-planetary surface interaction via detection of sputtered neutral
atoms and neutralized backscattered solar wind protons in the energy range
~0.01-3.0 keV. SWIM measures solar wind ions, magnetosheath and magnetotail
ions, as well as ions scattered from lunar surface in the ~0.01-15 keV energy
range. The neutral atom sensor uses conversion of the incoming neutrals to
positive ions, which are then analyzed via surface interaction technique. The
ion mass analyzer is based on similar principle. This paper presents the SARA
instrument and the first results obtained by the SWIM and CENA sensors. SARA
observations suggest that about 20% of the incident solar wind protons are
backscattered as neutral hydrogen and ~1% as protons from the lunar surface.
These findings have important implications for other airless bodies in the

Orbital Characteristics of the Subdwarf-B and F V Star Binary EC~20117-4014(=V4640 Sgr)
Among the competing evolution theories for subdwarf-B (sdB) stars is the
binary evolution scenario. EC~20117-4014 (=V4640~Sgr) is a spectroscopic binary
system consisting of a pulsating sdB star and a late F main-sequence companion
(O'Donoghue et al. 1997), however the period and the orbit semi-major axes have
not been precisely determined. This paper presents orbital characteristics of
the EC 20117-4014 binary system using 20 years of photometric data. Periodic
Observed minus Calculated (O-C) variations were detected in the two highest
amplitude pulsations identified in the EC 20117-4014 power spectrum, indicating
the binary system's precise orbital period (P = 792.3 days) and the
light-travel time amplitude (A = 468.9 s). This binary shows no significant
orbital eccentricity and the upper limit of the eccentricity is 0.025 (using 3
as an upper limit). This upper limit of the eccentricity is the lowest
among all wide sdB binaries with known orbital parameters. This analysis
indicated that the sdB is likely to have lost its hydrogen envelope through
stable Roche lobe overflow, thus supporting hypotheses for the origin of sdB
stars. In addition to those results, the underlying pulsation period change
obtained from the photometric data was = 5.4 (0.7)
d d, which shows that the sdB is just before the end of the
core helium-burning phase
Diffusion of scientific credits and the ranking of scientists
Recently, the abundance of digital data enabled the implementation of graph
based ranking algorithms that provide system level analysis for ranking
publications and authors. Here we take advantage of the entire Physical Review
publication archive (1893-2006) to construct authors' networks where weighted
edges, as measured from opportunely normalized citation counts, define a proxy
for the mechanism of scientific credit transfer. On this network we define a
ranking method based on a diffusion algorithm that mimics the spreading of
scientific credits on the network. We compare the results obtained with our
algorithm with those obtained by local measures such as the citation count and
provide a statistical analysis of the assignment of major career awards in the

New high-z BL Lacs using the photometric method with Swift and SARA
BL Lacertae (BL Lac) objects are the prominent members of the third {\it
Fermi} Large Area Telescope catalog of -ray sources. Half of the BL Lac
population ( 300) lack redshift measurements, which is due to the absence
of lines in their optical spectrum, thereby making it difficult to utilize
spectroscopic methods. Our photometric drop-out technique can be used to
establish the redshift for a fraction of these sources. This work employed 6
filters mounted on the -UVOT and 4 optical filters on two telescopes,
the 0.65 m SARA-CTIO in Chile and 1.0 m SARA-ORM in the Canary Islands, Spain.
A sample of 15 sources was extracted from the archival data for which 6
filter UVOT observations were conducted. By complementing the {\it Swift}
observations with the SARA ones, we were able to discover two high redshift
sources: 3FGL J1155.4-3417 and 3FGL J1156.7-2250 at
and , respectively, resulting from the dropouts in the
powerlaw template fits to these data. The discoveries add to the important (26
total) sample of high-redshift BL Lacs. While the sample of high-z BL Lacs is
still rather small, these objects do not seem to fit well within known schemes
of the blazar population and represent the best probes of the extragalactic

Dynamics of solar wind protons reflected by the Moon
Solar system bodies that lack a significant atmosphere and significant
internal magnetic fields, such as the Moon and asteroids, have been considered
as passive absorbers of the solar wind. However, ion observations near the Moon
by the SELENE spacecraft show that a fraction of the impacting solar wind
protons are reflected by the surface of the Moon. Using new observations of the
velocity spectrum of these reflected protons by the SARA experiment on-board
the Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft at the Moon, we show by modeling that the
reflection of solar wind protons will affect the global plasma environment.
These global perturbations of the ion fluxes and the magnetic fields will
depend on microscopic properties of the object's reflecting surface. This solar
wind reflection process could explain past ion observations at the Moon, and
the process should occur universally at all atmosphereless non-magnetized

Sustainability and Food: a Text Analysis of the Scientific Literature
The paper analyses the evolution of the research debate related to sustainability and to the relation between food and sustainability. A number of text analysis techniques were combined for the investigation of scientific papers. The results stress how discourse analysis of sustainability in the pre-Rio period is mostly associated with agriculture and with a vision where the ecological and environmental aspects are dominant. In the post-Rio phase, the discussion about sustainability, though still strongly linked to environmental issues, enters a holistic dimension that includes social elements. The themes of energy and the sustainability of urban areas become central, and the scientific debate stresses the importance of indicators within an assessment approach linked to the relevance of planning and intervention aspects. The focus on the role of food within the debate on sustainability highlights a food security oriented approach in the pre-Rio phase, with a particular attention towards agriculture and third world Countries. In the post-Rio period, the focus of the analysis moves towards developed Countries. Even though food security remains a strongly significant element of the debate, the attention shifts towards consumers and food choices
