    As the term \u27information technology\u27 has many meanings for various stakeholders and continues to evolve, this work presents a comprehensive approach for developing curriculum guidelines for rigorous, high quality, bachelor\u27s degree programs in information technology (IT) to prepare successful graduates for a future global technological society. The aim is to address three research questions in the context of IT concerning (1) the educational frameworks relevant for academics and students of IT, (2) the pathways into IT programs, and (3) graduates\u27 preparation for meeting future technologies. The analysis of current trends comes from survey data of IT faculty members and professional IT industry leaders.     Cultural capital of IT developers in Ukraine: exploratory case study

    Article focuses on the analysis of approaches to studying cultural capital of IT developers. Exploratory case study refers to the IT developers’ activity and focuses the cultural capital (CC) of the Ukrainian IT sector. Theoretical foundation of the study is based on the cultural capital theory referring to the value of social relations and networks. Research results demonstrate that Ukrainian IT developers accumulate CC through education: individual, in family, at school and with peers.     Innovation Offshoring:Asia's Emerging Role in Global Innovation Networks

    Most analysts agree that critical ingredients for economic growth, competitiveness, and welfare in the United States have been policies that encourage strong investment in research and development (R&D) and innovation. In addition, there is a general perception that technological innovation must be based in the United States to remain a pillar of the American economy. Over the past decade, however, the rise of Asia as an important location for "innovation offshoring" has begun to challenge these familiar notions. Based on original research, this report demonstrates that innovation offshoring is driven by profound changes in corporate innovation management as well as by the globalization of markets for technology and knowledge workers. U.S. companies are at the forefront of this trend, but Asian governments and firms are playing an increasingly active role as promoters and new sources of innovation. Innovation offshoring has created a competitive challenge of historic proportions for the United States, requiring the nation to respond with a new national strategy. This report recommends that such a strategy include the following elements: output forecasting techniques ... Improve access to and collection of innovation-related data to inform the national policy debate; Address "home-made" causes of innovation offshoring by sustaining and building upon existing strengths of the U.S. innovation system; Support corporate innovation by (1) providing tax incentives to spur early-state investments in innovation start-ups and (2) reforming the U.S. patent system so it is more accessible to smaller inventors and innovators; and Upgrade the U.S. talent pool of knowledge workers by (1) providing incentives to study science and engineering, (2) encouraging the development of management, interpretive, cross-cultural, and other "soft" capabilities, and (3) encouraging immigration of highly skilled workers.Innovation Networks, Innovation Offshoring, Asia

    Redesigning work organizations and technologies: experiences from European projects

    Currently distributed business process (re) design (resulting in components of business networks) basically relies on technical criteria. And that are the main purposes of most research projects supported by EC. Through the process of building a European Research Area, this means a strong influence in the national research programmes. However it is generally accepted that it should also take into account social criteria and aspects such as the quality of working life, or participation in decision processes. Those were some of the objectives of projects in de 80s decade, and framed some of the main concepts and scientific approaches to work organisation. The democratic participation of network and organisations members in the design process is a critical success factor. This is not accepted by everyone, but is based in sufficient case studies. Nevertheless, in order to achieve an optimization that can satisfying the requirements of agility of a network of enterprises, more complex design methods must be developed. Thus, the support to the collaborative design of distributed work in a network of enterprises, through a concurrent approaching business processes, work organisation and task content is a key factor to achieve such purposes.     How computerization changes the UK labour market: The facts viewed from a new perspective

    The digitization of the world as a result of the introduction of computers, chips, and ICT, hasundoubtedly been the most important technological development of the past few decades. Thefact that more and more workers use computers has led to the conclusion that computer skillsare becoming a key to social success. The aim of this paper is to contribute to the discussion ofthe effects of computerization on work. Our main conclusions are that the fear of a digital splitin society appears unjustified. Although computers initially find their way primarily to thehigher educated, practically all workers eventually end up working with computers. Absence ofcomputer skills probably plays no role during this process of computerization. This does notmean, however, that there is no need for policies to optimise the economic potential ofcomputers and ICT in general. Firstly, a properly developed infrastructure may be ofimportance for a rapid diffusion of the possibilities offered by ICT. This applies not only to thephysical networks, but also to the availability of software and information. In addition, it maybe expected that the educational requirements for workers will increase across the board andthere will be changes in the knowledge and skills that people need to have. These are notprimarily computer skills, but concern a much wider shift in the importance of various skills.Adjusting adequately to these changes, requires reliable data.     Exploring the Relevant Skills Needed for the Digital Age Employees

    The aim of this study is to explore the relevant skills needed for the digital age employees in business. After reviewing prior studies and literature, it was recognized that technology changed the requirements of employment. Digital technology stimulated an effect on employment in a wide range of business industries, changing the labor-force requirements. A qualitative approach was used to provide deeper insights into the studies presented in the literature. The aim of the exploration was to validate the research variables and develop a proposed conceptual framework of the vital skills relevant in the digital age labor-market. Three focus groups were steered in this study. Each focus group contained seven participants who were managers in various companies in different business sectors in Cairo or Alexandria. The participants in each focus group were homogeneous. The managers were into groups according to their company’s classification (local, multinational, and non-profit organization). The organizations were chosen based on a purposive sample and only organizations with a human resource department were invited to take part. According to the thematic analysis results, managers recruit graduates not only with technical skills, as represented by the degree obtained or the subjects that they took in college, but also with their employability skills: personal skills in business practices and digital media and information literacy. This study offered practical and academic contributions. The empirical evidences supported that technology has changed the requirements of employment, developing a proposed conceptual framework that recognizes the main skills needed in the digital age workforce.
