An architecture and guiding framework for the social enterprise

With the widespread adoption of social (aka Web 2.0) technologies like social networks, blogs, and wikis, there is a growing interest in looking into how enterprises should capitalize on these technologies. The social enterprise is the one that on top of having an online presence on the Internet, strives to open up new communication channels with stakeholders using social technologies. Building upon previous works on social business processes and on practical experiences on adopting such technologies in different Brazilian companies, this paper suggests an architecture and guiding framework for the social enterprise in terms of how to bridge the gap between the business world and social world and how to integrate social technologies into the enterprise\u27s day-to-day operations

Semantic Social Network Analysis: A Concrete Case

In this chapter we present our approach to analyzing such semantic social networks and capturing collective intelligence from collaborative interactions to challenge requirements of Enterprise 2.0. Our tools and models have been tested on an anonymized dataset from Ipernity.com, one of the biggest French social web sites centered on multimedia sharing. This dataset contains over 60,000 users, around half a million declared relationships of three types, and millions of interactions (messages, comments on resources, etc.). We show that the enriched semantic web framework is particularly well-suited for representing online social networks, for identifying their key features and for predicting their evolution. Organizing huge quantity of socially produced information is necessary for a future acceptance of social applications in corporate contexts

Networks of reader and country status: An analysis of Mendeley reader statistics

The number of papers published in journals indexed by the Web of Science core collection is steadily increasing. In recent years, nearly two million new papers were published each year; somewhat more than one million papers when primary research papers are considered only (articles and reviews are the document types where primary research is usually reported or reviewed). However, who reads these papers? More precisely, which groups of researchers from which (self-assigned) scientific disciplines and countries are reading these papers? Is it possible to visualize readership patterns for certain countries, scientific disciplines, or academic status groups? One popular method to answer these questions is a network analysis. In this study, we analyze Mendeley readership data of a set of 1,133,224 articles and 64,960 reviews with publication year 2012 to generate three different kinds of networks: (1) The network based on disciplinary affiliations of Mendeley readers contains four groups: (i) biology, (ii) social science and humanities (including relevant computer science), (iii) bio-medical sciences, and (iv) natural science and engineering. In all four groups, the category with the addition "miscellaneous" prevails. (2) The network of co-readers in terms of professional status shows that a common interest in papers is mainly shared among PhD students, Master's students, and postdocs. (3) The country network focusses on global readership patterns: a group of 53 nations is identified as core to the scientific enterprise, including Russia and China as well as two thirds of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries.Comment: 26 pages, 6 figures (also web-based startable), and 2 table

The Social Work Docuverse

The impact of electronic technology on social work has not been fundamental or transformative in any way comparable to the impact upon a variety of other professions and disciplines. A major potential impact of electronic systems for communications-based knowledge systems like social work lies in the area of textual processing systems which are only beginning to come to the fore. This article concentrates on one such set of technology -- hypermedia -- which already makes possible the construction and delivery of a social work docuverse which contains an electronic knowledge base of the field. Actual realization of such a web and exploration of the vast networks of linkages it implies will be an enormous task which should be the first major scholarly enterprise facing social welfare scholars in the new millennium. Several major problems must be overcome in creating such a vast undertaking include a number of critical organizational, legal, educational and political issues. The very nature of the emerging technology together with the inherited traditions of professional education make such a task inherently a matter of the common good of the profession

Neoliberal Government and community forestry : subjection and discourse in a Oaxacan Community

In the context of open struggle between a neoliberal state and popular social movements in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, this thesis seeks to explore how neoliberalism also works more subtly through state-sponsored community forestry. Using the concepts of "development discourse" and the Foucauldian conception of government, this thesis sheds light on the power networks that run through the language, practice and process of community forestry in a community with a well-established forestry enterprise. Neoliberal government is found to be present in the practice of community forestry, in discourse calling for change to governance structures in the community, identities of comuneros, as well as in environmental discourse. The exploration of this web of government also contributes to a greater understanding of relationships between state institutions, professionals and community members involved in community forestry

A Social Network-based Framework for Data Services Selection in Modern Web Application Design

Abstract. In recent years the design of enterprise Web applications is more and more based on the integration of resources delivered through data services from outside the organization boundaries. Searching and composing existing data services offer many advantages, namely, the availability of widespread solutions in the form of services and data shared over the Web, and reduced development costs. In this scenario, new methods for speeding up the design process are emerging and, in particular, developers' social networks have been established, where developers follow other developers to learn from their choices in selecting suitable services. In this paper, we propose a framework to support data service selection for modern Web application design, by also considering the developers' social network. The network of social relationships, properly weighted with the developers' credibility, is used to compute developers' rank. This rank qualifies developers' experience in selecting data services

Introducing "2.0" functionalities in an ERP

Companies and ERP editors show an increasing interest for the Web 2.0 technologies, aiming at involving the user of a web site in the creation of content. We summarize in this communication what these tools are and give an overview of recent examples of their use in companies. We show on the example of the most recent ERP of SAP, Business By Design, that if "2.0 tools" are now available in some ERPs, their integration in the business processes is not yet fully done. We suggest in that purpose the first draft of a methodology aiming at developing "2.0 business processes" using an ERP 2.0
