Job search theory and the slippery slope framework: an attempt to integration

Recently, attempts have been made to formalize the assumptions of the ‘slippery slope’ framework about the effects of trust (in) and power (of) tax authorities on tax compliance. In this sense, the proposed theoretical work introduces the basic insights of the ‘slippery slope’ framework into the benchmark macroeconomic model of the labour market with tax evasion. The key result of this integration is the following: with the right mix of policy tools of deterrence and trust in tax authorities, a reduction in tax evasion may increase labour market tightness and decrease unemployment.tax evasion, tax compliance, power and trust, job search theory

Practice-led research and the myth of rigour

The process of determining creative works as rigorous productions of new knowledge is complex. As artists-academics, we assert that practice-led research is distinct from other disciplinary research, in the very form of rigour and evaluation processes in which these creative works require. Contextually, our premise is underpinned by broader university implications of creative research being measured against the criteria of traditional research, with its quality metrics often referencing the Sciences (Eisner 2015). We therefore, emphasise creative research as holding its own 'creative rigour', encompassing complex intersections of academy and industry

"On Paradigms, Theories and Models"

The purpose of this brief note is to alert the reader to the existing confusing state of affairs in the social sciences regarding the terms paradigm, theories and models, trace a few of the causes, and offer some tentative distinctions that may make our discourses a bit clearer. Since the word paradigm is used in so many different ways, it is suggested that we avoid using this term unless necessary in a particular context. For most ordinary scientific discourse and debate,the terms theories and models are sufficient. As shown in this paper, they are terms that can be defined clearly, and used to raise relevant questions about choice among different theories and models. From this perspective, paradigm seems to be an example of the traps that beset a careless user of ordinary language. Wittgenstein was the most important modern philosopher to point this out in general. To use a somewhat Wittgensteinian language, paradigm is an example of a language game that has somewhere gone awry. But we still have the language games of models and theories that are eminently serviceable for the social science discourses.

Feminist Philosophy of Disability: A Genealogical Intervention

This article is a feminist intervention into the ways that disability is researched and represented in philosophy at present. Nevertheless, some of the claims that I make over the course of the article are also pertinent to the marginalization in philosophy of other areas of inquiry, including philosophy of race, feminist philosophy more broadly, indigenous philosophies, and LGBTQI philosophy. Although the discipline of philosophy largely continues to operate under the guise of neutrality, rationality, and objectivity, the institutionalized structure of the discipline implicitly and explicitly promotes certain ontologies, epistemologies, and methodologies as bona fide philosophy, while casting the ontologies, epistemologies, and methodologies of marginalized philosophies as mere simulacra of allegedly fundamental ways of knowing and doing philosophy and thus rendering these marginalized philosophies more or less expendable. This article is designed to show that legitimized philosophical discourses are vital mechanisms in the problematization of disability
