Making a difference - the appropriate use of web technology
Much has been written elsewhere about how, different Information Technology tools, can in principle be used by groups or communities to make their web sites more effective for Continued Professional Development. In practice, complex use is not often the case. In particular, three sites were studied in Scotland, which provided web facilities for the over 60s. The sites, and the communities they served, used only simple Information Technology. Nevertheless, they enabled their communities to participate effectively, on the 'right side', of the European population's 'digital divide'
Developing ICT for Primary and Secondary Mathematics Teacher Professional Development: The Use of VTR in Lesson Study
Most (mathematics) teachers candidates have little opportunity to observe effective
teaching in an actual classroom as many of their first learning experiences were based in a
traditional classroom where rules were applied methodically to solve problems. In other words,
they lack the experience base to meaningfully observe the classroomâs complex and rapid
interactions. The use of video tape recorder (VTR) is one of the aspects of developing ICT to
promote teachers professional development. Through Lesson Studies activities, some
Indonesian teachers have experiences to reflect their teaching through VTR. Reflecting good
teaching practice of mathematics form different context through VTR was proved to evidently
encourage and motivate teachers to improve their teaching competencies. In some parts of the
activities of teachers professional development programs in Indonesia, year 2002â 200, the
reflections through VTR of Japanesse context and Indonesian context resulting teachersâ
perception that it was a good model of mathematics teaching that can possibly be implemented
in Indonesia. However, the techers were aware that to implement such good model there are
some fundamental constraints should be overcome.

Harnessing Technology: new modes of technology-enhanced learning: a case study series
This report presents the outcomes and conclusions from a series of 18 case studies exploring the innovative use of technology for learning and teaching using new modes of technology
LP-based Covering Games with Low Price of Anarchy
We present a new class of vertex cover and set cover games. The price of
anarchy bounds match the best known constant factor approximation guarantees
for the centralized optimization problems for linear and also for submodular
costs -- in contrast to all previously studied covering games, where the price
of anarchy cannot be bounded by a constant (e.g. [6, 7, 11, 5, 2]). In
particular, we describe a vertex cover game with a price of anarchy of 2. The
rules of the games capture the structure of the linear programming relaxations
of the underlying optimization problems, and our bounds are established by
analyzing these relaxations. Furthermore, for linear costs we exhibit linear
time best response dynamics that converge to these almost optimal Nash
equilibria. These dynamics mimic the classical greedy approximation algorithm
of Bar-Yehuda and Even [3]
