    A Location-Sentiment-Aware Recommender System for Both Home-Town and Out-of-Town Users

    Spatial item recommendation has become an important means to help people discover interesting locations, especially when people pay a visit to unfamiliar regions. Some current researches are focusing on modelling individual and collective geographical preferences for spatial item recommendation based on users' check-in records, but they fail to explore the phenomenon of user interest drift across geographical regions, i.e., users would show different interests when they travel to different regions. Besides, they ignore the influence of public comments for subsequent users' check-in behaviors. Specifically, it is intuitive that users would refuse to check in to a spatial item whose historical reviews seem negative overall, even though it might fit their interests. Therefore, it is necessary to recommend the right item to the right user at the right location. In this paper, we propose a latent probabilistic generative model called LSARS to mimic the decision-making process of users' check-in activities both in home-town and out-of-town scenarios by adapting to user interest drift and crowd sentiments, which can learn location-aware and sentiment-aware individual interests from the contents of spatial items and user reviews. Due to the sparsity of user activities in out-of-town regions, LSARS is further designed to incorporate the public preferences learned from local users' check-in behaviors. Finally, we deploy LSARS into two practical application scenes: spatial item recommendation and target user discovery. Extensive experiments on two large-scale location-based social networks (LBSNs) datasets show that LSARS achieves better performance than existing state-of-the-art methods.Comment: Accepted by KDD 201

    Personalized sentiment classification based on latent individuality of microblog users

    Sentiment expression in microblog posts often re-flects user’s specific individuality due to different language habit, personal character, opinion bias and so on. Existing sentiment classification algo-rithms largely ignore such latent personal distinc-tions among different microblog users. Meanwhile, sentiment data of microblogs are sparse for indi-vidual users, making it infeasible to learn effective personalized classifier. In this paper, we propose a novel, extensible personalized sentiment classi-fication method based on a variant of latent fac-tor model to capture personal sentiment variations by mapping users and posts into a low-dimensional factor space. We alleviate the sparsity of personal texts by decomposing the posts into words which are further represented by the weighted sentiment and topic units based on a set of syntactic units of words obtained from dependency parsing results. To strengthen the representation of users, we lever-age users following relation to consolidate the in-dividuality of a user fused from other users with similar interests. Results on real-world microblog datasets confirm that our method outperforms state-of-the-art baseline algorithms with large margins.

    Purpose: The increasingly booming e-commerce development has stimulated vehicle consumers to express individual reviews through online forum. The purpose of this paper is to probe into the vehicle consumer consumption behavior and make recommendations for potential consumers from textual comments viewpoint. Design/methodology/approach: A big data analytic-based approach is designed to discover vehicle consumer consumption behavior from online perspective. To reduce subjectivity of expert-based approaches, a parallel Naïve Bayes approach is designed to analyze the sentiment analysis, and the Saaty scale-based (SSC) scoring rule is employed to obtain specific sentimental value of attribute class, contributing to the multi-grade sentiment classification. To achieve the intelligent recommendation for potential vehicle customers, a novel SSC-VIKOR approach is developed to prioritize vehicle brand candidates from a big data analytical viewpoint. Findings: The big data analytics argue that “cost-effectiveness” characteristic is the most important factor that vehicle consumers care, and the data mining results enable automakers to better understand consumer consumption behavior. Research limitations/implications: The case study illustrates the effectiveness of the integrated method, contributing to much more precise operations management on marketing strategy, quality improvement and intelligent recommendation. Originality/value: Researches of consumer consumption behavior are usually based on survey-based methods, and mostly previous studies about comments analysis focus on binary analysis. The hybrid SSC-VIKOR approach is developed to fill the gap from the big data perspective

    Sentiment analysis of comments in social media

    Social media platforms are witnessing a significant growth in both size and purpose. One specific aspect of social media platforms is sentiment analysis, by which insights into the emotions and feelings of a person can be inferred from their posted text. Research related to sentiment analysis is acquiring substantial interest as it is a promising filed that can improve user experience and provide countless personalized services. Twitter is one of the most popular social media platforms, it has users from different regions with a variety of cultures and languages. It can thus provide valuable information for a diverse and large amount of data to be used to improve decision making. In this paper, the sentiment orientation of the textual features and emoji-based components is studied targeting “Tweets” and comments posted in Arabic on Twitter, during the 2018 world cup event. This study also measures the significance of analyzing texts including or excluding emojis. The data is obtained from thousands of extracted tweets, to find the results of sentiment analysis for texts and emojis separately. Results show that emojis support the sentiment orientation of the texts and that texts or emojis cannot separately provide reliable information as they complement each other to give the intended meaning

    A HYBRID DEEP LEARNING APPROACH FOR SENTIMENT ANALYSIS IN PRODUCT REVIEWS

    Product reviews play a crucial role in providing valuable insights to consumers and producers. Analyzing the vast amount of data generated around a product, such as posts, comments, and views, can be challenging for business intelligence purposes. Sentiment analysis of this content helps both consumers and producers gain a better understanding of the market status, enabling them to make informed decisions. In this study, we propose a novel hybrid approach based on deep neural networks (DNNs) for sentiment analysis in product reviews, focusing on the classification of sentiments expressed. Our approach utilizes the recursive neural network (RNN) algorithm for sentiment classification. To address the imbalanced distribution of positive and negative samples in social network data, we employ a resampling technique that balances the dataset by increasing samples from the minority class and decreasing samples from the majority class. We evaluate our approach using Amazon data, comprising four product categories: clothing, cars, luxury goods, and household appliances. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach performs well in sentiment analysis for product reviews, particularly in the context of digital marketing. Furthermore, the attention-based RNN algorithm outperforms the baseline RNN by approximately 5%. Notably, the study reveals consumer sentiment variations across different products, particularly in relation to appearance and price aspects

Hence, online health forums are increasingly popular these days since people can gather their requireddata by just sitting at home and select the best doctor by considering the reviews available online. The patients also browse on their concerneddiseases and use the open forum for discussion on the topics. On an average, these online health-care providers are mainly focusing on reviews aboutthe physicians. The feedback provided by patients is considered and we also analyze the sentiments of the patient to estimate the value of the reviews.The rating for the doctors is divided into various categories such as Staff, Knowledge, and Helpfulness. We propose support vector machine and apriorifor the classification of data and use sentiment based rating prediction to analyze doctor's reviews and opinion mining patterns for online patterns.By providing physician ratings in website, it offers the patients to know about the physician and consider the critique and information to make theirdecision.Keywords: Support vector machine, Apriori, Sentiment classification, Opinion mining
