Sensitivity minimization by strongly stabilizing controllers for a class of unstable time-delay systems
Cataloged from PDF version of article.Weighted sensitivity minimization is studied within the framework of strongly stabilizing (stable) H(infinity) controller design for a class of infinite dimensional systems. This problem has been solved by Ganesh and Pearson, [11], for finite dimensional plants using Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation. We extend their technique to a class of unstable time delay systems. Moreover, we illustrate suboptimal solutions, and their robust implementation

On the Selection of Tuning Methodology of FOPID Controllers for the Control of Higher Order Processes
In this paper, a comparative study is done on the time and frequency domain
tuning strategies for fractional order (FO) PID controllers to handle higher
order processes. A new fractional order template for reduced parameter modeling
of stable minimum/non-minimum phase higher order processes is introduced and
its advantage in frequency domain tuning of FOPID controllers is also
presented. The time domain optimal tuning of FOPID controllers have also been
carried out to handle these higher order processes by performing optimization
with various integral performance indices. The paper highlights on the
practical control system implementation issues like flexibility of online
autotuning, reduced control signal and actuator size, capability of measurement
noise filtration, load disturbance suppression, robustness against parameter
uncertainties etc. in light of the above tuning methodologies.Comment: 27 pages, 10 figure
Delay-Based Controller Design for Continuous-Time and Hybrid Applications
Motivated by the availability of different types of delays in embedded systems and biological circuits, the objective of this work is to study the benefits that delay can provide in simplifying the implementation of controllers for continuous-time systems. Given a continuous-time linear time-invariant (LTI) controller, we propose three methods to approximate this controller arbitrarily precisely by a simple controller composed of delay blocks, a few integrators and possibly a unity feedback. Different problems associated with the approximation procedures, such as finding the optimal number of delay blocks or studying the robustness of the designed controller with respect to delay values, are then investigated. We also study the design of an LTI continuous-time controller satisfying given control objectives whose delay-based implementation needs the least number of delay blocks. A direct application of this work is in the sampled-data control of a real-time embedded system, where the sampling frequency is relatively high and/or the output of the system is sampled irregularly. Based on our results on delay-based controller design, we propose a digital-control scheme that can implement every continuous-time stabilizing (LTI)
controller. Unlike a typical sampled-data controller, the hybrid controller introduced here -— consisting of an ideal sampler, a digital controller, a number of modified second-order holds and possibly a unity feedback -— is robust to sampling jitter and can operate at arbitrarily high sampling frequencies without requiring expensive, high-precision computation
Stable ℋ∞controller design for systems with time delays
One of the difficult problems of robust control theory is to find strongly stabilizing controllers (i.e. stable controllers leading to stable feedback system) which satisfy a certain ℋ∞ performance objective. In this work we discuss stable ℋ∞controller design methods for various classes of systems with time delays. We consider sensitivity minimization problem in this setting for SISO plants. We also discuss a suboptimal design method for stable ℋ∞controllers for MIMO plants. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg
Sensitivity minimization by stable controllers for a class of unstable time-delay systems
In this paper sensitivity minimization problem is considered for a class of unstable time delay systems. Our goal is to find a stable controller stabilizing the feedback system and giving rise to smallest H∞ norm for the sensitivity function. This problem has been solved by Ganesh and Pearson (1986) for finite dimensional plants using Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation. We extend their technique to include possibly unstable time delay systems. Moreover, we illustrate suboptimal solutions, and their robust implementation. © 2006 IEEE
