Sponsorship image and value creation in E-sports

    Get PDF
.E-sports games can drive the sports industry forward and sponsorship is the best way to engage consumers of this new sport. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of sponsorship image and consumer participation in co-creation consumption activities on fans’ sponsorship response (represented by the variables interest, purchase intention and word of mouth) in e-sports. Four antecedent variables build sponsorship image (i.e., ubiquity of sport, sincerity of sponsor, attitude to sponsor and team identification). A quantitative approach is used for the purposes of this study. Some 445 questionnaires were filled in by fans who watch e-sports in Spain; these are analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The outcomes show that sponsor antecedents are crucial factors if a sponsor wants to change their sponsorship image and influence sponsorship response, and that it is also possible to use participation to improve responsesS

How Does Reciprocity Affect Undergraduate Student Orientation towards Stakeholders?

5987Nowadays, students are more aware of the impact of companies on their stakeholders and the need for properly handling their expectations to operationalize corporate social responsibility. Nevertheless, little is known about how certain individual traits may relate to their stance on the issue. This exploratory research contributes to stakeholder theory by analysing the e ect of the individual’s decision-making process, including the consideration of their social preferences, on their orientation toward stakeholder management. Here, we draw upon a theoretical model for resource-allocation decision-making consisting of reciprocal and non-reciprocal components. Our data, from undergraduate students enrolled in di erent degrees, were collected through a questionnaire and two social within-subject experiments (ultimatum and dictator games). Thus, our results show that the presence of a reciprocal component when decisions are made is positively linked to an instrumental orientation toward stakeholders. In addition, a greater non-reciprocal component in the decision-making process corresponds to a more normative orientation.S

P469 Infliximab for induction of medically-induced remission in Crohn’s disease: a Cochrane systematic review

    No full text
Background Infliximab is a monoclonal antibody that binds and neutralizes tumour necrosis factor-alpha, which is present in high levels in the blood serum, mucosa and stool of patients with Crohn’s disease (CD). We sought to determine the effectiveness and safety of infliximab in inducing remission in patients with CD. Methods On 31 August 2021, we searched CENTRAL, CINAHL, ClinicalTrials.gov, Embase, MEDLINE, and WHO ICTRP with no language, date, publication status, or document type limitations. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in which infliximab was compared to placebo or another active comparator in adult (18 and over) patients with active CD. The review authors independently conducted data extraction and ‘Risk of bias’ assessment of the included studies. We expressed dichotomous and continuous outcomes as risk ratios and mean differences with 95% confidence intervals. We assessed the certainty of the evidence using GRADE methodology. The primary outcome was the proportion of patients who achieved clinical remission. Results We included 9 RCTs (1130 participants). Three studies compared multiple arms with different infliximab doses (between 5mg and 20mg/kg) to placebo. Two studies each with three arms compared azathioprine and placebo, infliximab and placebo, or infliximab and azathioprine combined. One study compared infliximab with biosimilar CT-P13. One study compared infliximab and azathioprine with steroids and azathioprine and only infliximab if no response. The final study compared a single dose (5mg/kg) of infliximab to placebo. In all trials that didn’t require a purine analogue to be given to both study groups, they allowed such concomitant use in both groups. There is evidence that infliximab combined with azathioprine is superior to azathioprine combined with placebo in inducing clinical remission for CD (RR 1.97, 95% CI 1.60–2.42, moderate certainty evidence downgraded due to risk of bias, NNT = 3). Sensitivity analysis considering a fixed effects model and then removing a study where most received azathioprine in both groups instead of all, had no impact on the result, which remained significant. There is evidence that there may be no difference in withdrawals from adverse events between infliximab combined with azathioprine and azathioprine combined with placebo when inducing clinical remission for CD (RR 0.74, 95% CI 0.29–1.86, low certainty evidence downgraded due to serious imprecision). The evidence is uncertain for all other comparisons and outcomes due to imprecision from small sample sizes. Conclusion There is evidence that infliximab with azathioprine is probably better than azathioprine, however the remaining data is based on limited total patient numbers and offers limited scope for meta-analysis

The JCMT BISTRO Survey: Multi-wavelength polarimetry of bright regions in NGC 2071 in the far-infrared/submillimetre range, with POL-2 and HAWC+

Polarized dust emission is a key tracer in the study of interstellar medium and of star formation. The observed polarization, however, is a product of magnetic field structure, dust grain properties and grain alignment efficiency, as well as their variations in the line of sight, making it difficult to interpret polarization unambiguously. The comparison of polarimetry at multiple wavelengths is a possible way of mitigating this problem. We use data from HAWC+/SOFIA and from SCUBA-2/POL-2 (from the BISTRO survey) to analyse the NGC 2071 molecular cloud at 154, 214 and 850 μm. The polarization angle changes significantly with wavelength over part of NGC 2071, suggesting a change in magnetic field morphology on the line of sight as each wavelength best traces different dust populations. Other possible explanations are the existence of more than one polarization mechanism in the cloud or scattering from very large grains. The observed change of polarization fraction with wavelength, and the 214-to-154 μm polarization ratio in particular, are difficult to reproduce with current dust models under the assumption of uniform alignment efficiency. We also show that the standard procedure of using monochromatic intensity as a proxy for column density may produce spurious results at HAWC+ wavelengths. Using both long-wavelength (POL-2, 850 μm) and short-wavelength (HAWC+, ≲200μm) polarimetry is key in obtaining these results. This study clearly shows the importance of multi-wavelength polarimetry at submillimeter bands to understand the dust properties of molecular clouds and the relationship between magnetic field and star formation

Likewise, a subset of septic patients progresses to septic shock, characterized by substantial circulatory, cellular and metabolic abnormalities, which substantially increase the risk of mortality. Sepsis is characterized by a malfunction of the immune system and it can lead to an altered immune response and immunosuppression. Moreover, the high complexity of the pathophysiology of sepsis requires of further investigation to characterize the immune responses in sepsis and septic shock. Likewise, circulating extracellular histones have gained relevance as cytotoxic mediators in sepsis pathophysiology, since they act as damage-associated molecular patterns, which induce oxidative stress and activate NLRP3 inflammasome. Subsequently, inflammasome mediates pyroptosis activation, a programmed cell death mechanism that produces inflammation through the release of IL-18, IL-1β and IL-1α. However, despite inflammasome activation may occur in immune cells during sepsis, it is unknown if this process also takes place in endothelial cells and particularly whether extracellular histones are capable of activating endothelial inflammasomes and their consequences. In this work we highlight a previously unknown role for extracellular histones, that mediates the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and pyroptosis in endothelial cells by contributing to endothelial dysfunction and the dysregulation of the immune response mediated by endothelium. Likewise, we demonstrated how histone acetylation decreases pyroptosis activation. Furthermore, we show how pyroptosis occurs in septic shock patients and how circulating histone levels correlate with the expression of pro-inflammatory and pyroptotic cytokines, the release of endothelial adhesion factors and septic shock severity. We propose histone-mediated pyroptosis as a new target to develop clinical interventions. Similarly, we have analyzed the immune-related responses occurring during the early stages of sepsis with the aim of providing new data by comparing the amounts of cytokines, immune modulators and other endothelial mediators in critically-ill non-septic patients, septic and septic shock patients. Our approach will help to rapidly characterize the altered immune responses in septic and septic shock patients admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. Finally, we also analyzed the role of DNA methylation in the control of septic immune system. Our results demonstrated the central role of DNA methylation modulating the molecular response in septic shock patients and contributing to immunosuppression, through the alteration of DNA methylation patterns of IL-10 and TREM2 promoters

Dynamic and Static Cognitive Deficits in Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder After the First Episode

Abstract Few studies have comprehensively examined the profile of cognitive functioning in first episode psychosis patients throughout the lifespan, and from first episode to chronic stage. We assessed functioning in general and specific cognitive functions, comparing both schizophrenia (N = 64) and bipolar I (N = 19) patients to controls (N = 103). Participants were from a population-based, case-control study of first episode psychosis patients, who were followed prospectively up to 10 years post first admission. A cognitive battery was administered at baseline and follow-up. By combining longitudinal and cross-sectional data, we were able to examine the cognitive profile of patients and controls throughout the entire age range of our sample (16–65). Schizophrenia patients exhibited widespread declines in IQ, executive function, visual memory, language ability, and verbal knowledge. However, the ages at which these declines occurred differed between functions. Deficits in verbal memory, working memory, processing speed, and visuospatial ability, on the other hand, were present at the first episode, and remained relatively static thereafter. Bipolar I patients also showed declines in IQ, verbal knowledge, and language ability, albeit at different ages to schizophrenia patients and only in verbal functions. Deficits on measures of verbal memory, processing speed, and executive function remained relatively static. Thus, both schizophrenia and bipolar I patients experienced cognitive decline in general and specific functions after the first episode, but the age at which these declines occurred differed between disorder and function. Cognitive remediation efforts may be most fruitful when targeting individual functions during specific time periods throughout adulthood

The applied psychology of addictive orientations : studies in a 12-step treatment context.

The clinical data for the studies was collected at The PROMIS Recovery Centre, a Minnesota Model treatmentc entre for addictions,w hich encouragesth e membership and use of the 12 step Anonymous Fellowships, and is abstinence based. The area of addiction is contextualised in a review chapter which focuses on research relating to the phenomenon of cross addiction. A study examining the concept of "addictive orientations" in male and female addicts is described, which develops a study conductedb y StephensonM, aggi, Lefever, & Morojele (1995). This presents study found a four factor solution which appeared to be subdivisions of the previously found Hedonism and Nurturance factors. Self orientated nurturance (both food dimensions, shopping and caffeine), Other orientated nurturance (both compulsive helping dimensions and work), Sensation seeking hedonism (Drugs, prescription drugs, nicotine and marginally alcohol), and Power related hedonism (Both relationship dimensions, sex and gambling. This concept of "addictive orientations" is further explored in a non-clinical population, where again a four factor solution was found, very similar to that in the clinical population. This was thought to indicate that in terms of addictive orientation a pattern already exists in this non-clinical population and that consideration should be given to why this is the case. These orientations are examined in terms of gender differences. It is suggested that the differences between genders reflect power-related role relationships between the sexes. In order to further elaborate the significance and meaning behind these orientations, the next two chapters look at the contribution of personality variables and how addictive orientations relate to psychiatric symptomatology. Personality variables were differentially, and to a considerable extent predictably involved with the four factors for both males and females.Conscientiousness as positively associated with "Other orientated Nurturance" and negatively associated with "Sensation seeking hedonism" (particularly for men). Neuroticism had a particularly strong association with the "Self orientated Nurturance" factor in the female population. More than twice the symptomatology variance was explained by the factor scores for females than it was for males. The most important factorial predictors for psychiatric symptomatology were the "Power related hedonism" factor for males, and "Self oriented nurturance" for females. The results are discussed from theoretical and treatment perspectives

This thesis examines the labour supply of older workers, their movement into retirement, and any movement out of retirement and back into work. In particular the labour force participation, labour supply and wage elasticity and other income elasticity of work hours are estimated for older workers and compared to younger workers. The thesis goes on to look at the movement into retirement for older workers as a whole by examining cohorts by gender, wave and age. The thesis also presents a descriptive and quantitative • examination of the changes in income and happiness that occur as an individual retires. Finally the thesis examines the reasons why an individual may return to work from v . retirement. The results of the findings suggest: that younger workers are significantly more responsive to wage and household income changes than older worker

Investigation of Mobile Games for Cognitive Assessment and Screening with a Focus on Touch-based and Motion Features

Early detection of cognitive decline is important for timely intervention and treatment strategies to prevent further deterioration or development of more severe forms of cognitive dysfunction. Therefore, many tests have been developed for screening and monitoring changes in cognitive status. However, these existing assessment and screening tools are not designed for self-administration without a trained examiner. Moreover, the lack of multiple variations of these paper-based measures and repeated exposure to such tests could reduce their sensitivity to detect cognitive changes due to practice effects. These limitations pose clinical challenges to early identification of cognitive deficits and monitoring of longitudinal changes in cognitive function, especially in resource-limited settings. To this end, a number of studies have adopted mobile technology and gamification to facilitate remote and self-administered cognitive assessment and screening in a less effortful and engaging manner. Despite this, existing literature has so far only examined the feasibility of using gameplay performance as a means for cognitive assessment. There has not been any attempt to explore gameplay behaviours as revealed through patterns of touch interactions and device motions as indicative features for cognitive evaluation. Therefore the aim of this thesis is to investigate the use of touch and motions features in game-based cognitive assessment and screening. This is achieved through two studies. The first study was carried out to examine the links between cognitive abilities and underlying patterns of user-game interaction with a focus on touch gestures and device motions. Twenty-two healthy participants took part in the two-session experiment where they were asked to take a series of standard cognitive assessments followed by playing three casual mobile games in which user-game interaction data were passively collected. The results from bivariate analysis indicated that increases in swipe length and swipe speed, in the game context, were significantly correlated with declines in response inhibition ability but increased performance on attention. However, it remained unclear whether the device motion features alone could be used to identify cognitive ability as the results provide only weak evidence for relationships between cognitive performance and the underlying device motion patterns while playing the games. In the second study, we evaluated the potential use of these behavioural features and mobile games as a potential screening tool for clinical conditions with cognitive impairment. Alcohol-related brain damage (ARBD) is often found to be associated with deficits in multiple cognitive functions in patients with alcohol dependence, which is the focus of this thesis. Based on findings from the preliminary study, the second experimental study was carried out to investigate the feasibility of using such user-game interaction patterns on mobile games to develop an automated screening tool for alcohol-dependent patients. The classification performance of various supervised learning algorithms was evaluated on data collected from 40 patients and 40 age-matched healthy adults. The results showed that patients with alcohol dependence could be automatically identified accurately using the ensemble of touch, device motion, and gameplay performance features on 3-minute samples (accuracy=0.95, sensitivity=0.95, and specificity=0.95). The findings provide evidence suggesting the potential use of user-game interaction metrics on existing mobile games as discriminant features for developing an implicit measure to identify alcohol dependence conditions. In addition to supporting healthcare professionals in clinical decision-making, the game-based method could be used as a novel strategy to promote self-screening, especially outside of clinical settings. The findings from this thesis were also applied to guidelines to aid researchers in the game interaction design to capitalise on the use of touch and device motion features with regard to cognitive assessment and screening
