Semantic Web Enabled Software Engineering
Ontologies allow the capture and sharing of domain knowledge by formalizing information and making it machine understandable. As part of an information system,
ontologies can capture and carry the reasoning knowledge needed to fulfill different application goals. Although many ontologies have been developed over recent years, few
include such reasoning information. As a result, many ontologies are not used in real-life applications, do not get reused or only act as a taxonomy of a domain. This work is an investigation into the practical use of ontologies as a driving factor in the development of applications and the incorporation of Knowledge Engineering as a meaningful activity into modern agile software development. This thesis contributes a novel methodology that supports an incremental requirement analysis and an iterative formalization of ontology design through the use of ontology reasoning patterns. It also provides an application model for ontology-driven applications that can deal with nonontological data sources. A set of case studies with various application specific goals helps to elucidate whether ontologies are in fact suitable for more than simple knowledge formalization and sharing, and can act as the underlying structure for developing largescale information systems. Tasks from the area of bug-tracker quality mining and clone detection are evaluated for this purpose
Semantic Jira - Semantic Expert Finder in the Bug Tracking Tool Jira
The semantic expert recommender extension for the Jira bug tracking system
semantically searches for similar tickets in Jira and recommends experts and
links to existing organizational (Wiki) knowledge for each ticket. This helps
to avoid redundant work and supports the search and collaboration with experts
in the project management and maintenance phase based on semantically enriched

OntoMaven: Maven-based Ontology Development and Management of Distributed Ontology Repositories
In collaborative agile ontology development projects support for modular
reuse of ontologies from large existing remote repositories, ontology project
life cycle management, and transitive dependency management are important
needs. The Apache Maven approach has proven its success in distributed
collaborative Software Engineering by its widespread adoption. The contribution
of this paper is a new design artifact called OntoMaven. OntoMaven adopts the
Maven-based development methodology and adapts its concepts to knowledge
engineering for Maven-based ontology development and management of ontology

Enterprise application reuse: Semantic discovery of business grid services
Web services have emerged as a prominent paradigm for the development of distributed software systems as they provide the potential for software to be modularized in a way that functionality can be described, discovered and deployed in a platform independent manner over a network (e.g., intranets, extranets and the Internet). This paper examines an extension of this paradigm to encompass ‘Grid Services’, which enables software capabilities to be recast with an operational focus and support a heterogeneous mix of business software and data, termed a Business Grid - "the grid of semantic services". The current industrial representation of services is predominantly syntactic however, lacking the fundamental semantic underpinnings required to fulfill the goals of any semantically-oriented Grid. Consequently, the use of semantic technology in support of business software heterogeneity is investigated as a likely tool to support a diverse and distributed software inventory and user. Service discovery architecture is therefore developed that is (a) distributed in form, (2) supports distributed service knowledge and (3) automatically extends service knowledge (as greater descriptive precision is inferred from the operating application system). This discovery engine is used to execute several real-word scenarios in order to develop and test a framework for engineering such grid service knowledge. Privacy-Preserving Reengineering of Model-View-Controller Application Architectures Using Linked Data
When a legacy system’s software architecture cannot be redesigned, implementing
additional privacy requirements is often complex, unreliable and
costly to maintain. This paper presents a privacy-by-design approach to
reengineer web applications as linked data-enabled and implement access
control and privacy preservation properties. The method is based on the
knowledge of the application architecture, which for the Web of data is
commonly designed on the basis of a model-view-controller pattern. Whereas
wrapping techniques commonly used to link data of web applications duplicate
the security source code, the new approach allows for the controlled
disclosure of an application’s data, while preserving non-functional properties
such as privacy preservation. The solution has been implemented
and compared with existing linked data frameworks in terms of reliability,
maintainability and complexity
A conceptual architecture for semantic web services development and deployment
Several extensions of the Web Services Framework (WSF) have been proposed. The combination with Semantic Web technologies introduces a notion of semantics, which can enhance scalability through automation. Service composition to processes is an equally important issue. Ontology technology – the core of the Semantic Web – can be the central building block of an extension endeavour. We present a conceptual architecture for ontology-based Web service development and deployment. The development of service-based software systems within the WSF is gaining increasing importance. We show how ontologies can integrate models, languages, infrastructure, and activities within this architecture to support reuse and composition of semantic Web services
Past, present and future of information and knowledge sharing in the construction industry: Towards semantic service-based e-construction
The paper reviews product data technology initiatives in the construction sector and provides a synthesis of related ICT industry needs. A comparison between (a) the data centric characteristics of Product Data Technology (PDT) and (b) ontology with a focus on semantics, is given, highlighting the pros and cons of each approach. The paper advocates the migration from data-centric application integration to ontology-based business process support, and proposes inter-enterprise collaboration architectures and frameworks based on semantic services, underpinned by ontology-based knowledge structures. The paper discusses the main reasons behind the low industry take up of product data technology, and proposes a preliminary roadmap for the wide industry diffusion of the proposed approach. In this respect, the paper stresses the value of adopting alliance-based modes of operation
Realization of Semantic Atom Blog
Web blog is used as a collaborative platform to publish and share
information. The information accumulated in the blog intrinsically contains the
knowledge. The knowledge shared by the community of people has intangible value
proposition. The blog is viewed as a multimedia information resource available
on the Internet. In a blog, information in the form of text, image, audio and
video builds up exponentially. The multimedia information contained in an Atom
blog does not have the capability, which is required by the software processes
so that Atom blog content can be accessed, processed and reused over the
Internet. This shortcoming is addressed by exploring OWL knowledge modeling,
semantic annotation and semantic categorization techniques in an Atom blog
sphere. By adopting these techniques, futuristic Atom blogs can be created and
deployed over the Internet
