Selected design issues of a dedicated facility for generic QCD studies
QCD, even if presently out of fashion, deserves a dedicated, generic research
program providing new challenges for the theory and aiming at understanding
hadronic matter and vacuum in terms of quark and gluon degrees of freedom. Such
a research program needs a dedicated facility to re-address basic questions
which remain unanswered and to open new vistas.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, talk at Workshop on the Spin Structure of the

Study on utilization of advanced composites in fuselage structures of large transports
The potential for utilizing advanced composites in fuselage structures of large transports was assessed. Six fuselage design concepts were selected and evaluated in terms of structural performance, weight, and manufacturing development and costs. Two concepts were selected that merit further consideration for composite fuselage application. These concepts are: (1) a full depth honeycomb design with no stringers, and (2) an I section stringer stiffened laminate skin design. Weight reductions due to applying composites to the fuselages of commercial and military transports were calculated. The benefits of applying composites to a fleet of military transports were determined. Significant technology issues pertinent to composite fuselage structures were identified and evaluated. Program plans for resolving the technology issues were developed

Survey Instrument for Gender Based Violence
This is a proposal for the design of a survey on gender-based violence across Europe. It introduces the purpose of the survey, which shapes the priorities embedded in the proposed design. It identifies the major issues involved in operationalising the concept of gender-based violence for a survey. It identifies some technical issues and how they are best addressed. The focus is on the questionnaire, largely leaving to one side the design of the survey and its strategy for issues such as sampling. This proposal draws on experience of a wide range of surveys and draws on selected parts of the architecture and questionnaire of the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW), modified to fit the present priorities
Selected Issues of Design and Implementation od Decision Support Systems
The paper presents selected issues related to design and implementation of model based Decision Support Systems (DSS). For over ten years the SDS Program has been involved in cooperation with various projects at IIASA and in collaborating research institutes. This cooperation has resulted in the development of many DSS, which in turn stimulated research on the theory and methodology of decision analysis. An overview of selected DDS developed within the cooperation with IIASA is presented. Different concepts of DSS are briefly discussed and one specific type of DSS, namely model based, aspiration-led DSS is characterized. Finally, selected problems of designing and implementation of a DSS are discussed in more detail. A short description of software packages developed within the cooperation with the MDA Project is provided. The paper also gives a short summary of recent activities of the Methodology of Decision Analysis Project and of the DSS software available from the MDA Project

The impact of organisational antecedents on employee job The impact of organisational antecedents on employee job satisfaction: An empirical evaluation of public sector employees in Pakistan
Human resource development is one of the important issues in the field of organisational behaviour.
It affects employee performance in the organisation. Job satisfaction is one of the important issues in
the developing country particularly for Pakistan. This study focuses on the employee perception
towards job satisfaction. In this regard procedural justices, on job training, esprit de corps and job
clarity variables have been examined. This study is a cross sectional study which applied a survey
questionnaire for data collection. In this regard employee of public sector health organisations
selected for data collection. Based on one hundred ten randomly selected participants, results show
significant and positive impact of procedural justices, on job training, esprit de corps for job
satisfaction. However, employees reported less job satisfaction with their jobs due to lack of fairness.
With few limitations this study contributes to literature in the field of human resource management
and organisational behaviour and can support public sector management to design policies that may
help to enhance employee job satisfaction in the context of developing countries i.e. Pakistan
Development of pressure containment and damage tolerance technology for composite fuselage structures in large transport aircraft
NASA sponsored composites research and development programs were set in place to develop the critical engineering technologies in large transport aircraft structures. This NASA-Boeing program focused on the critical issues of damage tolerance and pressure containment generic to the fuselage structure of large pressurized aircraft. Skin-stringer and honeycomb sandwich composite fuselage shell designs were evaluated to resolve these issues. Analyses were developed to model the structural response of the fuselage shell designs, and a development test program evaluated the selected design configurations to appropriate load conditions
Summary of photovoltaic system performance models
A detailed overview of photovoltaics (PV) performance modeling capabilities developed for analyzing PV system and component design and policy issues is provided. A set of 10 performance models are selected which span a representative range of capabilities from generalized first order calculations to highly specialized electrical network simulations. A set of performance modeling topics and characteristics is defined and used to examine some of the major issues associated with photovoltaic performance modeling. Each of the models is described in the context of these topics and characteristics to assess its purpose, approach, and level of detail. The issues are discussed in terms of the range of model capabilities available and summarized in tabular form for quick reference. The models are grouped into categories to illustrate their purposes and perspectives
Constants in Future Cities and Regions
The paper resumes some of the conversations the authors had in three years of research, based on the review of best participatory planning practices worldwide. The case projects are selected and discussed with the protagonists across four leading issues: Simulation, Scenario and Visioning, Government and Governance, and Scale. The case-oriented discussion is a peculiarity of the book , contributing to give shape to future cities or regions. The aim is to build a critical thinking on how urban planning, policy and design issues are faced differently or similarly throughout every cases studied. The book include the description of computer models and media, socio-political experiments and professional practices which help communicating the future effects of different design, policy and planning strategies and schemes with a wide range of aims: from information, through consultation, towards active participation. The cases have confirmed that simulation tools can impact on local government and can drive new forms of "glocal" governance, shaping and implementing future plans and projects at different scale and time span. The following paragraphs will point at some of the constant thoughts the authors had around the selection and editing of the book's case studied and related issue
Pensions systems and reform : country experiences and research issues
Pension reform is spreading around the globe, from Latin America to the OECD countries, and major reform projects are being discussed in many other developing, transition, and OECD countries. The authors survey current research issues and country experiences related to old-age social security arrangements by introducing the papers selected for a special June 1994 issue of the Revista de Analisis Economico and presented at the July 1994 Conference on Pension Systems and Reforms sponsored by Fundacao Getulio Vargas. They also present 15 research and policy design issues not addressed by the literature, including macroeconomic effects, conditions of political economy, government's role in easing or reducing old-age poverty, and design features of fully funded pension systems.Payment Systems&Infrastructure,Pensions&Retirement Systems,Banks&Banking Reform,Environmental Economics&Policies,Labor Policies,Environmental Economics&Policies,Banks&Banking Reform,Economic Stabilization,Economic Theory&Research,Pensions&Retirement Systems

A component-based product line architecture for workflow management systems
This paper presents a component-based product line for workflow management systems. The process followed to design the product line was based on the Catalysis method. Extensions were made to represent variability across the process. The domain of workflow management systems has been shown to be appropriate to the application of the product line approach as there are a standard architecture and models established by a regulatory board, the Workflow Management Coalition. In addition, there is a demand for similar workflow management systems but with some different features. The product line architecture was evaluated with Rapide simulation tools. The evaluation was based on selected scenarios, thus, avoiding implementation issues. The strategy that has been used to populate the architecture and experiment with the product line is shown. In particular, the design of the workflow execution manager component is described
