Raum – Weltbild – Kontrolle

What are the connections between space, control and world view? The author answers this question using the concept of cognitive mapping, which he presents and discusses as a theoretical concept of social analysis and as an empirical means of research. Surveillance - so his thesis - makes the examination and control of worldviews possible and thus becomes a form of social orientation. At the same time, worldviews also provide a basis for understanding attitudes towards surveillance measures. Surveillance in this sense is not a product of modernity, but occurs in all historical epochs and serves the organization of reality. Space and spatial notions of the world are shaped by the environment and the experiences people have in it. Socio-spatial conceptions are the origin of discourses of surveillance and are in turn influenced by forms of control. Worldviews can be used to trace attitudes and surveillance and the orientation patterns behind them. This book deals with these interrelations using the concept of cognitive mapping. This concept analyses causes and effects and explains how they play an important role in processes of social exclusion/integration or the possibilities of identity formation

Der virtuelle Spiegel

Im Zentrum dieser Arbeit steht die theoretische Diskussion über strukturell veränderte Formen der Subjektkonstitution im virtuellen Raum. Durch die Einführung des Computers wurde in unser Alltagsleben eine Form immaterieller Realität etabliert, die vor allem das menschliche Blickfeld des Abendlandes zusehends vereinnahmt. Für die Soziologie dürfte es von Interesse sein, welche Veränderungen eine Art der alltäglichen Konditionierung impliziert, die dafür sorgt, dass NutzerInnen ihre Wahrnehmung, Ansichten, Gefühle und generell Kommunikationsakte in digitale Ausdrucksweisen umkodieren müssen. Darauf aufbauend wird eine weitere Aufgabe sein die Anwendbarkeit sowie das Erklärungspotential von Konzepten und Modellen der klassischen soziologischen Identitätstheorie zu erfassen. Das erste Kapitel soll auf fundamentaler Basis erklären, was es bedeutet, mit einer physiklosen Umgebung konfrontiert zu sein, die so unendlich wie das All, jedoch klein genug für einen 3 Zoll-Bildschirm erscheint. Dieser Umstand wird vor allem aus phänomenologischer Sicht betrachtet und auf sozialwissenschaftliche Abhandlungen über die Genese der Mediatisierung der menschlichen Kommunikation zurückgreifen. Im zweiten Kapitel gilt es Social Network Sites, wie der Marktführer Facebook u.ä., auf struktureller Ebene eingehend zu analysieren und zu beschreiben. Da diese Arbeit keine eigene empirische Erhebung durchführt, wird im Zuge einer Akkumulation aktueller Ergebnisse der Einfluss von virtuellen Strukturen auf unsere Selbstdarstellung reflektiert. In Anlehnung an die ersten beiden Kapitel werden die soziologischen Klassiker von George Herbert Mead und Erving Goffman erläutert und mit den bisherigen Erkenntnissen verknüpft werden. Abschließend wird aus der Perspektive einer spät- bzw. postmodernen Soziologie argumentiert, um die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit innerhalb von gesamtgesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen zu verorten.This paper will focus upon the theoretical discussion about structural modified manifestations of identity construction in a virtual environment. A contemporary sociology should seek to explain and describe how these changes in communication and fundamentally in human coexistence shape the way in which we transport our feelings, perspectives and information across the world. Based on these thoughts the paper analyzes the impact of virtual structures on our self presentation and our sense of self. The major task will be to embed the findings of this paper in a discourse about the adaptability and the explanatory power of classical sociological identity theories. The first chapter will argue from a fundamental point of view, what it means to move within a space, which seems as infinite as the universe but small enough for a three inch monitor. The use of phenomenological theories will enable us to separate the novel possibilities of the virtual space from the ones which have been overtaken from traditional media. The second chapter is concerned with analyzing Social Network Sites on a functional and structural level. Given that, this paper doesn´t execute an own empirical research, hence it will connect to several quantitative and qualitative researches. Following the first two chapters we will link our findings with the sociological classics of George Herbert Mead and Erving Goffman. Concluding this paper will argue from the perspective of late and/or post modernism to embed the previous discussions in the context of contemporary societal changes and developments

Eigensinn der Bilder: Bildtheorie oder Kunstphilosophie? Die vorliegende Publikation entwirft ein Panorama, das sich von einer Auseinandersetzung mit Methoden und Zielen einer historisch (selbst)bewußten aktuellen Kunstgeschichte über bildtheoretische Erörterungen zu einem epistemologischen Konstruktivismus (Nelson Goodman, Jean Piaget) erstreckt. Verhandelt werden weiter die Widerstandskraft der Bilder, die Produktivkraft des Dilettantismus mit Seitenblick auf die neuzeitliche Künstleraus-bildung, eine politisch-ikonographische Analyse politischer Manipulation mit Hilfe von Bildern und die Tauglichkeit einer visuell trainierenden Evidenzkritik, die man als eigentliche Programmatik eines Eigensinns der Bilder beanspruchen kann
