    The Internet of Things (IoT): Platforms, Analytics, Security, Business Model, and Human Interaction

    According to Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 and a number of recent research reports in 2016 and 2017 from Gartner, Deloitte, McKinsey, and Info-Tech Research Group, the Internet of Things (IoT) is projected to be a multi-trillion dollar opportunity. However, there are numerous issues and requirements in IoT, such as platforms, analytics, gateways and devices (including sensors) management; communication services (i.e., M2M and networking protocols); security and privacy; and user interactions. In addition, various perspectives for monetizing IoT, as a business model, will be considered. The IoT panel proposal will cover IoT platform, gateway and devices; communications services; IoT analytics; security and privacy; business model and business value of IoT; and human interaction with IoT. Each panelist will present the assigned IoT topics

    An empirical analysis of SNS users and their privacy and security awareness of risks associated with sharing SNS profiles (online identities)

    Social networking sites (SNS) like MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn now have hundreds of millions of users. In this paper a quantitative approach was used to analyse primary data collected about SNS users. Our findings show that SNS users are dominated by younger adults, higher education levels and higher income levels. SNSs are more likely to be used for maintaining existing friendships as opposed to establishing new friendships and for building business networks. SNS users either have poor levels of privacy and security awareness or high levels of complacency in relation to SNS profile sharing and sharing their identity online

    This study is an initial step in a larger study which explores issues associated with security and privacy in social network sites (SNSs). Sites such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Bebo, Ning and others have increased in popularity and are receiving increased attention from industry and academics as SNSs move beyond the youth market. Most SNSs are targeted towards individuals, yet they are impacting organizations and will change the way business is conducted in the future. Utilizing a survey of MBA students from two US institutions, this study explores the issue of privacy and proposes a model which addresses the risks, expectations, and reality of social networking privacy. It also outlines an agenda for future research

    Empirical Study of Privacy Issues Among Social Networking Sites.

    Social media networks are increasing their types of services and the numbers of users are rapidly growing. However, online consumers have expressed concerns about their personal privacy protection and recent news articles have shown many privacy breaches and unannounced changes to privacy policies. These events could adversely affect data protection and compromise user trust, thus it is vital that social sites contain explicit privacy policies stating a comprehensive list of protection methods. This study analyzes 60 worldwide social sites and finds that even if sites contain a privacy policy, the site pages may also possess technical elements that could be used to serendipitously collect personal information. The results show specific technical collection methods most common within several social network categories. Methods for improving online privacy practices are suggested
