    The Wiltshire Wills Feasibility Study

    The Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office has nearly ninety thousand wills in its care. These records are neither adequately catalogued nor secured against loss by facsimile microfilm copies. With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund the Record Office has begun to produce suitable finding aids for the material. Beginning with this feasibility study the Record Office is developing a strategy to ensure the that facsimiles to protect the collection against risk of loss or damage and to improve public access are created.<p></p> This feasibility study explores the different methodologies that can be used to assist the preservation and conservation of the collection and improve public access to it. The study aims to produce a strategy that will enable the Record Office to create digital facsimiles of the Wills in its care for access purposes and to also create preservation quality microfilms. The strategy aims to seek the most cost effective and time efficient approach to the problem and identifies ways to optimise the processes by drawing on the experience of other similar projects. This report provides a set of guidelines and recommendations to ensure the best use of the resources available for to provide the most robust preservation strategy and to ensure that future access to the Wills as an information resource can be flexible, both local and remote, and sustainable

    The book on emerging informatics brings together the new concepts and applications that will help define and outline problem solving methods and features in designing business and human systems. It covers international aspects of information systems design in which many relevant technologies are introduced for the welfare of human and business systems. This initiative can be viewed as an emergent area of informatics that helps better conceptualise and design new world-class solutions. The book provides four flexible sections that accommodate total of fourteen chapters. The section specifies learning contexts in emerging fields. Each chapter presents a clear basis through the problem conception and its applicable technological solutions. I hope this will help further exploration of knowledge in the informatics discipline

    The development of a conceptual rural logistics system model to improve products distribution in Indonesia

    Purpose: The role of speculators in distributing products across rural areas is increasing the poverty rate in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to develop a conceptual framework of the rural logistics system model to influence the welfare and sustainability of farmers. Design/methodology/approach: Conceptual framework was used to evaluate logistics and supply chain networks. The method consists of developing stages based on four components, namely network structure, management, resources, and business processes. Furthermore, it also proposed the management function of the rural logistics system models. Findings: The model of a rural logistics system obtained in this study consists of 1) a trade related to the network of business, 2) a freight, related to the flow of goods, and 3) management functions related to crucial activities in rural logistics management. Research limitations/implications: This model is conceptual, therefore, future studies must accommodate optimizing models to predict the performance of rural logistics systems when they are applied in Indonesia. Practical implications: This study promotes the actors in intermediaries of the rural logistics system to synergize the distribution of goods effectively and efficiently. It also reduces the role of speculators in product distribution in form of availability and price in rural areas. Social implications: This model is a strategy to achieve the Rural Sustainable development Goals (Rural-SDGs) agenda and complements the Blueprint of The National Logistics System. Originality/value: There are fewer studies in rural logistics compared to other fields such as agricultural logistics, food logistics, disaster logistics, etc. Therefore, this study organizes the actors in the rural logistics network and plans management functions for the efficient distribution of products across Indonesia. The adoption of blockchain-smart contract (BCSC) technology is at the heart of this transformation. This research delves deep into the BCSC within the construction arena to provide comprehensive insight into its probable applications, inherent challenges, and potential future trajectories. Leveraging the PRISMA analysis technique, a curated collection of relevant academic research articles was assembled, shedding light on the existing body of knowledge regarding the application of BCSC technology in construction. The authors developed an innovative user interface tool customized to automatically analyze Excel files exported from Scopus and Science Direct databases to ensure a rigorous approach. Preliminary findings highlight the existing gaps between the theoretical potential of blockchain and its tangible implementation in the construction domain. This study consolidates existing literature and emphasizes the critical domains and key parameters that future studies should address.     A business model for the digital distribution of music in the South African context

    Increased technological capabilities in the realm of independent audio production coupled with online trends of Social Media, e-commerce, m-commerce and user-generated content have created unique opportunities for content providers to use Web 2.0 as an innovative distribution platform for mass dissemination of content. Artists not contracted to a record company, who are able to produce low cost, high fidelity audio recordings, are able to utilise this web-platform to connect directly with consumers without reliance on record companies, who have traditionally retained control over production and distribution in the music industry. This paper presents elements of an emerging business model which aims to re-architect the traditional value chain by linking artists and consumers directly through an Internet platform. A key component of the model is utilising new technologies and integrating existing service providers through web-services to provide an aggregated value-added service package to both artists and consumers in a cost-effective manner. The model is aimed at the South African market with the assumption that proposed ICT infrastructure upgrades will enable increased broadband Internet access at substantially lower cost. The model also aims to capitalize on the high mobile phone penetration in South Africa and utilise this as an additional distribution channel, particularly in rural areas.
