A Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN

This document provides a brief overview of the recently published report on the design of the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC), which comprises its physics programme, accelerator physics, technology and main detector concepts. The LHeC exploits and develops challenging, though principally existing, accelerator and detector technologies. This summary is complemented by brief illustrations of some of the highlights of the physics programme, which relies on a vastly extended kinematic range, luminosity and unprecedented precision in deep inelastic scattering. Illustrations are provided regarding high precision QCD, new physics (Higgs, SUSY) and electron-ion physics. The LHeC is designed to run synchronously with the LHC in the twenties and to achieve an integrated luminosity of O(100) fb1^{-1}. It will become the cleanest high resolution microscope of mankind and will substantially extend as well as complement the investigation of the physics of the TeV energy scale, which has been enabled by the LHC

Automated Synthesis of a Finite Complexity Ordering for Saturation

We present in this paper a new procedure to saturate a set of clauses with respect to a well-founded ordering on ground atoms such that A < B implies Var(A) {\subseteq} Var(B) for every atoms A and B. This condition is satisfied by any atom ordering compatible with a lexicographic, recursive, or multiset path ordering on terms. Our saturation procedure is based on a priori ordered resolution and its main novelty is the on-the-fly construction of a finite complexity atom ordering. In contrast with the usual redundancy, we give a new redundancy notion and we prove that during the saturation a non-redundant inference by a priori ordered resolution is also an inference by a posteriori ordered resolution. We also prove that if a set S of clauses is saturated with respect to an atom ordering as described above then the problem of whether a clause C is entailed from S is decidable

Advanced Anti-Windup Techniques for the Limitation of the Effects of the Actuator Saturation

    Get PDF
In this thesis an industrial issue is analysed. The issue consist on the undesirable effect of actuator sturation. Two approaches are given to solve the issue: an accurate inertia identification algorithm based on the DFT coefficient; and advanced anti-windup compensators. The principle of the modern anti-windup (DLAW and MRAW, LMI-based design approach), and a systematic design design procedure for the observer-based anti-windup are given. Simulation and test results are also given.ope
