A Survey on Meta-Heuristic Scheduling Optimization Techniques in Cloud Computing Environment

As cloud computing is turning out to be evident that the eventual fate of the cloud industry relies on interconnected cloud systems where the resources are probably going to be provided by various cloud service suppliers. Clouds are also seen as being multifaceted; if the user requires only computing capacity and wishes to personalize it as per his requirements, the infrastructure cloud suppliers are able to provide this convenience as virtual machines. Many optimized meta-heuristic scheduling techniques are introduced for scheduling of bag-of-tasks applications in heterogeneous framework of clouds. The overall analysis demonstrates that, utilizing different meta-heuristic techniques can offer noteworthy benefits in the terms of speed and performance

Relation of the cost department to the factory organization

It should be made clear at the outset that the cost department deals with cost accounting, with debits and credits, different in character but the same in principle as the debits and credits handled by the bookkeeper in the sales and cash records. Cost calculations are sometimes made entirely detached from the general bookkeeping, but it is very rarely that such records have anything like their full value, and their use is always attended by the very considerable risk that they cannot be proved by the showing on the financial books at the end of the year or other closing period. Only cost records which are tied in with the general accounting records in the treasurer\u27s office will give complete control over the operating expenses of the factory, and enable the management to know at all times how much is invested in raw materials, work in process, and finished product; and also to know the cost of the goods which are being sold. A cost department, therefore, should not be engaged simply in cost finding, but rather in cost accounting, which is much broader work and much more valuable to the management

The Unusual Suspects: An Educated, Legitimately Employed Drug Dealing Network

This article challenges the mainstream discourse that is often used to conceptualize illegal drug supply. In particular, it questions the assumption that drug dealers and the markets they inhabit are a social aberration, restricted primarily to social outsiders operating in socially and economically marginalized communities. Drawing on 6 years of ethnographic fieldwork with 25 “conventional” working-class “lads,” the article makes two overarching arguments. First, that the illegal drug trade is by no means confined to a subset of violent or marginalized drug distributors. Second, that the organization and structure of drug distribution networks can often be entwined into the fabric of conventional routines. The article concludes that criminological research must move toward better conceptualizing the so-called silent majority of drug dealers if we are to accurately reframe the current reductionist drugs discourse

From Made in America to Hecho en Sinaloa: A Historical Geography of North American Methamphetamine Networks

Most of the major drugs of abuse in the Untied States have a relatively uniform distribution. Their use may cluster in cities, for example, but that general pattern tends to repeat itself in every region of the county. This is not true of the stimulant methamphetamine, which today shows a decidedly uneven distribution. Confounding the matter more is the fact that, because it is a synthetic drug, it is theoretically possible to make methamphetamine anywhere. But it is not made everywhere. In fact, for much of its history, the drug has been concentrated in the American West. Further complicating our understanding is the public's general amnesia regarding methamphetamine's long history in the United States. Without that knowledge, it is impossible to explain the drug' present geography. This dissertation traces the evolution of the various networks that have coalesced around the production and distribution of methamphetamine and finds that much of the drug's current geography can be traced to the manner in which these various groups responded to official attempts to stem the supply of the precursors necessary to produce it

Forever Earth was scheduled and operated for 21 days; it benefited 398 individuals. Newly developed grade 4 activities from the Forever Earth curriculum were field tested. Three Discover Mojave Outdoor World events were conducted. A partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada is under development; when finalized, this partnership will markedly increase participation in the program. Similar partnership discussions are also being held with local leadership of the local Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA. A work plan has been established for Conservation, Education, and Interpretation Program Manager. Cultural Inclusiveness workshops were held in January for area-wide educators. Continued progress has occurred for the Environmental Education and Interpretation Certification Program; to date it is 50 percent complete

FOOD SOVEREIGNTY AND COFFEE CULTIVATION IN EL SALVADOR: CURRENT PITFALLS AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE INTERSECTIONS OF COFFEE, GENDER, AND CLIMATE CHANGE

    Get PDF
Abstract Climate change threatens agriculture worldwide, and coffee farming is especially vulnerable. This is apparent in El Salvador, a Central American coffee producing country, previously a prominent player in the field. Due to climate change impacts, as well as social, economic, political, cultural, and institutional issues, the country has been struggling during the last three decades to remain in the coffee industry in a way that is sustainable for the environment and for people. This study aimed to identify the ways in which coffee cultivation in El Salvador has contributed to or detracted from the ability of farmers to achieve food sovereignty and security. This investigation also sought to consider how gender, climate change, and unique El Salvadoran weaknesses and strengths bolster or diminish the likelihood that local farmers can achieve a sustainable path forward for coffee cultivation. To research these themes, a multi-method qualitative approach included a literature review, site-visits, participant observations, and semi-structured interviews. In conclusion, coffee farming contributes to food security in nuanced but seemingly unsustainable ways, as many small and medium-scale famers struggle to make a sufficient living, however, agroforestry style coffee farming contributes essential ecosystem services and must be protected and incentivized. Additionally, gender inequality, climate change, and problems specific to El Salvador threaten the sustainable future of the coffee industry
